Sony Ericsson confirmed to somobile that the 2011 range of Android Xperia smartphones will receive the next major Android update when Google releases it later this year. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will most likely be released in October/November, but the Xperia update will most likely not be available at that time. The Android Ice Cream Sandwich is the merge of current smartphone version 2.3 Gingerbread and the version 3.0 Honeycomb version for tablets. The Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman are also running on Android but it does not carry the Xperia brand. It is uncertain if this model will get the 4.0 upgrade.

Are the txt and txt pro Android? I thought they weren't. Good news for Sony Ericsson users but i really don't like Android anymore so waiting for the Windows Phone 7 handsets from 
Anyone else really getting an erdge to eat that android icecream sandwich^? I've had ones similar when on holiday and they're so good.

It was weird reading that they were in that article. Updated I knew they would, but glad to get confirmation. After the X10 mess SE simply cannot afford to f-up in terms of updates, I simply cannot wait to see how Ice Cream Sandwich will run as it will take advantage of the Graphics Accelerator in all Androids for the GUI, so it should be very fluid.

Here’s the official statement: “When it comes to future platforms of the Android OS, we will make them available to consumers in a timely manner, as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view.“ Ouch!
I see that this update will be available in +Q2. Lets wait for official announcement from SE.

when is the release on this firmware then? I have my Htc Sensation so I know thats gonna get it but the x10i I think thats at the end of the road now
