The water-resistant 4G smartphone Xperia V from Sony will be delayed until January next year in some European markets

Sony Xperia V delayed until next year

The Sony Xperia V which was announced in August this autumn, was scheduled to be released in Q4 2012. Releasing a phone in Q4 means that it will reach the market just in time for the important Christmas shopping. Sony Mobile France today announced on twitter that the release date for Xperia V in France will be postponed until late January next year. The reason for the delay is Sony Mobile's wish to release the smartphone with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Initially, Xperia V was going to enter the market with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and receive the Jelly Bean update a little later. We expect the French delay to apply to all European countries. Sony has also decided to lower the price from Euro 549 to 529.

Sony The Xperia V is one of Sony's flagship models with a 4.3 inch HD (720x1280 pixels) Reality Display powered by the Sony Mobile Bravia engine. It has a 13 megapixel still camera and a 1080p videos camera. The Xperia V has a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. The twin model Xperia T for the US market has similar specs with a larger 4.6-inch display but Xperia V has the advantage of LTE 4G network support and the fact that it is dust and waterproof with a IP code of IP55 and IP57.

Damn it! Sony you cook something good up and then boom late again. You are like an unreliable transport system! Well if Asia gets this first I will be importing it anyway so fingers crossed before xmas!

i feel i should quit waiting V and get a P. Sony is always presenting phones but delivering them after 6 months minimum. some things never change. you can change name, headquarters but u're still the same shit.

What's the matter with them. I just upgrade to the Xperia T which is a great phone but I was actually looking forward to the V. They ran a competition on Facebook just last week to win one of these so they must have them in production.

It's a damn shame. Not suprising though, it is Sony after all.

I don't even know what to say. I was eagerly waiting for Xperia V but now I think it makes sense to buy Dogo/Odin.

@Goldendace,yes I enter into the Sony FB comps each week. I noticed this week they gone back to an older win an Xperia S. Not that I would refuse winning one of them.

they have been giving V in competitions even back on august the second week after its revealing/anouncement (might have been early september), and another time they were giving T and V. but no luck...

Do you guys think that Sony is unable to bring this phone to market when the T/TX has been out since quite some time now ? As I said, the only reason Sony is delaying the V is because it's meant to be a 2013 mid range fighter and shares more with Yuga/Odin than T/TX.

I agree with you but then why would someone go for V when you get Yuga/Odin for little more price? & there is a huge difference in CPU. V has got Dual Core and Yuga/Odin will have Quad Core.
Already in the market there are smartphones now flooding with Quad Cores and you think 2013 will leave much for Dual Core? forget that. Consumers are now getting smart about all these specifications. Times changing and now even a normal consumer does not go for only looks or MP3 supported phone cause they know now smartphones have much more than this. Back in those days MP3, Memory, Bluetooth, WiFi etc were the features that they were looking for. Now they know how much hardware is also important thanks to the advertising from the companies stating Dual Core, Quad Core, Android Version & so on.
The timing has to be right. There is a huge demand for V right now then why not?

You can't get Odin/Yuga for a "little" more money. V is a mid range device for those who can't afford Yuga/Odin/Dogo. Also it is waterproof and has a "comfortable" 4.3 inch screen. It is meant for a completely different demography compared to Odin/Yuga/Dogo.
V will be about 400 euros, Dogo 500+ and Yuga 600 +. There is quite a steep price difference between V and Yuga/Odin.
Personally I would recommend you get the Yuga, unless you feel water and dust resistant functionality is a must have.

I always wanted a water resistant smartphone but now I'm dropping my plans for that cause Yuga is going to come out at that time and Yuga has a better specs than V on paper. I'm just waiting for Yuga but I wouldn't have mind buying V if it had been out.
I do agree with what you have to say but then I also think it does not make sense announcing a phone which is going to be released after 4 months.

Any official statement like this by Sony or were you told this by a Sony insider?

mariozlp11 years, 4 months ago
