While Apple's iPhone is set to hit the US market in two months, Sony Ericsson have said they are not worried about potential lost sales and they welcome their new competitor.

Mats Lindoff, Sony Ericsson's CTO commented that if there are only five brands in the worldwide handset market, the market will be too monotone. He highlighted that the company already stands firm in the Walkman handset market and most of Sony Ericsson's high-end handsets support 3G services. The fact that Apple's iPhone is not able to support 3G will become a disadvantage for the company, Lindoff pointed out. source:digitimes

theres no doubt that sony ericsson make some very nice phones, however i do feel that nokia are on their way bk to the throne now they have decided to make reliable handsets rather than flashy ones. Dont get me wrong, i've had my fair share of sony ericsson phones and loved them all (t610, K610, w850i) but thhere will always be a soft spot for nokia as that was my first phone back when i was 11! :D (3310) ***Sony Ericsson, could you please step down and let the rightful company take its place on the throne! ALL HAIL NOKIA!!!!***

Apple will show it's talent in a different manner, that means hey offer unique things others cannot esp. nokia which only makes complete phones with market standard features like Wifi,HSDPA while Iphone offer us multitap TS, accelerometer etc.

I'm not sure about SE's confidence. But I'm definately confident for the consumer. More competition can only lead to better products for us to choose from right? I'd also hope that it could lead to better after sales support from the likes of SE because I figure that Apple is going to gun hard for apps etc to be funtional on their baby. I've wavered off the symbian operating system in the past. But I'm pretty cemented with UIQ atm. Even with note to my friends labeling me a style whore (it's not that bad but they can't stand me only buying VAIO's), I don't think I'm getting rid of my p990. The Prada was nice for about 10 minutes and I don't think that Apple are going to produce something so earth shattering in their first iteration.

Mats Lindoff is an idiot. The iPhone is not even certified for any market yet so who knows what will be in the phone. Second, as bad as this may sound the US is far behind the rest of the world, especially when it comes to Europe, so who cares if 3G is not in US phones. However, 3G will be in European and Asian phone for sure.

Ericsson is good with mobile industry and begins with nokia so, they have all in cell phones and complement with sony to have more entretein i think apple and sonyericsson are the best but i preffer sony walkman becouse of the sound is better than my ipod and the new walkman player 2.0 in new phones are much better than the old walkman player in the phones and they are getting beter but they have to improve 360 grades in their software to get more market

@Proml

Well, dont think SE as a mobile phone company itself would tell the rest of the world they are unhappy about the the appearance of the new rivial, would they???

I dont sense any kind of partnership at all =.="

Apple supports the US market. Sony Ericsson does not.

Apple supports both Windows and Mac OS X. Sony Ericsson does not.

So Sony Ericsson is correct when they say they have nothing to worry about.

SE should not have to worry about their sales because they have too many cheap, easily affordable low/mid-ranged fones on the market atm...why dont they bring out something more interesting to compete the N95?! SE u r ridiculous...although my past 5 fones have been SE's...truly dissapointing

AHH!

Now THAT is the sign of a TRUE champion in any realm. Good show SE, for not dissing Apple and being classy for welcoming Apple to the fold.

Do I sense some kind of minor partnership?!
