Sony Ericsson reports positive numbers for Q4 2010
20 January 2011 by Olav Hellesø-Knutsen Sony Ericsson today released 4th quarter and full year results for 2010. Number of units shipped went up while earnings went down The average selling price per device went down from 154 to 136 Euro but are up to 146 Euro for the full year 2010 compared to 119 EUR in 2009. Number of units shipped to retailers was 11.2 million in the forth quarter, up from 10.4 in 3rd quarter. 2009 was a really bad year for the manufacture where 2009 gave a loss of 878 million. It will take some time with positive figures to earn this back since 189 million Euro is the reported operating income for entire 2010. We have listed almost all Sony Ericsson phones in our phone database. The chart below shows that 2007 and 2008 had the quarters with most mobile phone announcements. 19 new models was announced in the second quarter alone in 2007. Only 10 phones was announced last year. Sony Ericsson has said it lower the number of different models and move most of its focus from entry-level phones to high-end / smartphones. That is OK, but they need to come up with new devices at regular intervals. The number of new announced devices in the second half of 2010 was zero. The Xperia Arc is the only model that has been announced so far this year, but we expect at least 3 new Android powered Xperia models to be announced at the Mobile World Congress in February. Xperia Play, Xperia Duo and Hallon/MT15i. Sony Ericsson might surpirse us and reveail a entry-level phone or two as well. We think that Sony Ericsson will do everything with Android and that Symbian and Windows Phone 7 devices not will be available from the anytime soon
