Sony Ericsson Z500 EDGE enabled camera phone
10 March 2004 Sony Ericsson yesterday unveiled the Z500, a clamshell EDGE enabled mobile phone for the US market available in Q3 2004
The Sony Ericsson Z500 has a built-in VGA camera used for both still image and video recording. A 4x digital zoom can be used taking pictures with the phone closed or open. Both the external 96x64 pixel, 4096 color display and the 128x160 pixel, 65.536 color display can be used as a viewfinder. There is no need to open the phone to seen who's calling. Picture ID (assigned picture of one of your contacts) is visible in the small external display when you receive a call. As with the popular T610/T630, Z500 also support the Instant Messaging (IM) feature "Wireless Village" allowing you to see which of your friends are online and chat with these. If you don't know any other with an IM supported phone you are still able to communicate with them by sending SMS, MMS or by email. Surprisingly, the Z500 does not have Bluetooth. You will have to fiddle with at cable (USB or RS-232) if you want to synchronize or transfer images and videos to a PC. This is the third phone model from Sony Ericsson with the clamshell form factor. The previous launched Z600 and Z200 has become popular handsets in Europe, and confirms Sony Ericsson's believe in this design. The Z1010, revealed in February 2003, is probably the next handset to be out, but it could be delayed due to lack of 3G networks. We have no available information about storage capacity, which may indicate that it doesn't use MemoryStick Duo from Sony as an expandable memory. Storage capacity is probably limited to fixed internal memory. Let's hope it will be fitted with enough. Specifications:
