The Sony Ericsson W660 is a candybar 3G Walkman model shipped with a 512MB M2 card. W660 will be available in selected markets from Q2 2007.

"The W660 has a finish that stands out among its peers," explains Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson. "Although the W660 places the emphasis firmly on design, it is also a full member of our Walkman phone family, able to store several hundred full-length songs. That's important because our research indicates users are listening to more music than ever before – an average of 4.4 hours a day, according to the latest Sony Ericsson Music Monitor." *

Like several of the latest Walkman phones, the W660 features TrackID. If you ever need to identify a piece of music that you don’t recognise, simply record a few seconds of the track, either via the microphone or by tagging a clip straight from the phone’s FM Radio, and TrackID™ will send the clip to the Gracenote Mobile MusicID database. This quickly identifies the track, the artist and album and relays the information back to your Walkman phone.

The W660 Walkman phone can store up to 470 full-length songs (in eAAC+ format) on the 512MB Memory Stick Micro™ (M2) supplied. As your collection grows you can expand the memory as you need and, by way of example, a 1GB Memory Stick Micro™ (M2) will hold up to 1,000 tracks.

As well as high speed music download and web surfing, the W660 can deliver RSS feeds straight to the phone’s desktop to keep you up-to-date on the latest news and gossip. It also packs a 2.0 megapixel camera and Picture Blogging capability, allowing you to capture that picture and upload it instantly to your personal blog site - all at 3G speed.

Sony Ericsson also announces the Snap-On Speakers, MPS-75, today. This is a small plug-in speaker unit with excellent sound quality that is powered from the phone - perfect for that party moment. The W660 Walkman phone also offers Bluetooth Audio Streaming, which allows you to send music wirelessly from the phone to other compatible devices, such as the Music Bluetooth™ Receiver MBR-100 or the Stereo Bluetooth Headset HBH-DS970.

The W660 Walkman phone is a UMTS 2100 and GPRS 900/1800/1900 device and will be available in selected markets from Q2 2007. The Snap-On Speakers, MPS-75, will be available globally from Q2 2007.

i think its just a cosmetic update of the newly announced w610... design is great! but, its just the same as the w610. pretty obvious! why did they released the w610 if they will have an update in a very short time? and why release an update with the same (2mp)camera? and no auto focus? minus the photolight? what the heck! and only 3g is the plus point?! is this a marketing strategy? i think they're wrong! this 2 device (the w610 and w660) will be just killing each other! it will make the consumers confused... they're just the same, except for 3g in the w660 and the photolight in the w610. so, this will make the consumers think hundreds of times before buying, and maybe this will make them look for other phone to buy. a phone that packed the feature of both (w610 & w660) phone. maybe a k610 is much better?! (minus the walkman player)... why dont they just combine the beauty of w660 and the photolight of w610 plus the autofocus of k750 to create a superior mobile phone! 3.2mp cam would also be much better! SE is realesing a phone of the past this days... whats going on SE? i'm expecting to hear from you a phone of the future! SE is a looser this time, 2006 is SE's lucky year, i think 2007 nokia's getting its thrown back! shame on walkman phones! nokia's xpress music is trying to reach you! and thats pretty close!

Great design! Could have used a higher mega pixel camera though, as well as flash, and autofocus. No doubt these will be included in update models, the Nokia way!

When your competition such as LG and NOKIA are releasing 5 megapixel phones, I ask why, oh why would you still bother with 2 megapixel. I know SE is not marketing this as the ultimate device but still, offer the consumer a power packed device already!
On 15 Mar 02:35 binladen wrote
just an ok in the design. it better not be built as flimsy and crappy as the w850i.
On 15 Mar 02:22 victorh017 wrote
I think the lack of autofocus could hurt its sales... SE, when are you gonna listen?? I REALLY like the black version though....

Coolness!

But why oh why did SE omit auto focus yet again?
