Sony Ericsson opens London store
28 November 2006 by axxxr Sony Ericsson opened its first ever global flagship store on Kensington High Street in London this week. The 35,000 sq foot store is the first in a series of flagship stores to open in big cities around the world to encourage customers to play with handsets. MD John Harber said he had a "hatred for dummy handsets", adding: 'We've got these little guys making fantastic phones in Lund (HQ in Sweden) and they come over and see us putting these plastic dummies in stores. It doesn't do them justice.'Harber said the store is expecting to lose some handsets to thefts but security barriers and a guard at the front will be put in place.'We will lose some [phones]. But the overall benefit is more important.' Sony Ericsson's retail chief Salvatore D'Angelo offered Harber the chance to open the first flagship store London shortly after the UK MD joined in April. The company approached Carphone Warehouse to run, stock and staff the store as well as help find a location. 'With Carphone as a partner we looked at locations with the right footfall in quality as well as volume footfall,' Harber said. The lease on the Kensington site was signed three months ago. It officially opened on Monday, with the store coming close to selling out of accessories almost immediately. source:mobiletoday

Possibility of actually testing new phones and handling them, getting informed information forthcoming releases rather than the crap fed by outlet stores, possibility of it being a full service centre for help and advice, ful range of genuine accessories that match SE's phones - try going into any other store to get a P990 case!!
