Facebook Home downloaded 500.000 times in five days

Facebook Home is a new set of apps that was launched for the Android platform five days ago. It has been downloaded over 500.000 times since last Thursday according to Google Play statistics. The app is currently only available for Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One.

The app has not received much positive feedback from its users. Average rating is 2.2 (of max 5). Out of 11.176 votes, 5.762 users has given the app a one star rating.

Facebook Home is installed as one app, but it adds multiple features to an Android phone:

  • Cover Feed - Adding Facebook feeds directly to the lock screen. Including text and images
  • Notifications
  • Chat Heads & Messenger - Chat app that are located on top of other apps
  • App Launcher - which is a substitute for the usual App Launcher on an Android smartphones.
Many users giving written feedback about the app says it can not replace the default app launcher and that the app has too much focus on Facebook.

Facebook Home will only be available to the above mentioned phone models if you visit Google Play. For those wanting to try the app on another Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone or newer should visit XDA-developers and follow the instructions there.

I still cannot imagine people wanting a phone which is primarily Facebook orientated. I like my friends, but not that much.
Besides they don't post beautiful pictures of stunning landscapes or brilliant weather. They post pictures of their food, kids, stupid modded cars and drunken nights out.
Like I want that on my phone the instant I unlock the screen.

Etaab you have to like what you want to see on that site
It's not all spam
I hate how Facebook keep updating the iPhone app
The private messaging part now is annoying lol

Facebook is just a app; facebook home is taking it a bit too far...Google nexus is better which offers all Google android products.

I tried it.Not for me.Uninstalled.

Like Bonovox said, WP does it better and more beautifully.
Going back to my point, these companies sell us these products by showing us how brilliant life is with them. I don't live in LA, Florida or Australia. Where i live the weather is miserable most of the time, people don't smile, we don't hang out round a gorgeous lake wearing straw hats and colourful clothing, drinking and being merry with a picnic or BBQ.
They need to be more realistic for us in the UK at least, show pictures of our misery. Something like this:

I hate facebook and etaab is right,. im sick of spam, photos of babies, their food, drunk nights, crap iphone panoramics, instagram and people just whinging about their shit boring lives! When I joined facebook in 2007 it felt exclusive and sharing photos was great now, its just pathetic and ideally that's why i love esato, nothing has changed, great format and interesting people. Esato please dont turn into another social website, stick to your successful format!!!

As for your comment about sad poms, sorry an Aussie n nz saying, it's the same here in nz, although they are so bloody obsessed with Apple, like the US! We are finally catching up with Europe with releases but pay over the nose for tech. I import my tech from Asia as it's. just easier for updates and saving money!

Im not Mr Popular, never have been because I don't follow the crowd or been easily led by friends, but a year ago I had about 150 genuine family and friends who I knew personally. Then I deleted about 100 of them which took me down to just over 50 friends.
Now whilst id say hello to them in the street, I wouldn't want them on Facebook. Im not bothered about keeping in touch with them now I don't work with them or socialise with them anymore. Or the fact I don't text or call them anymore. I don't want them seeing my pictures either. In fact, I recently deleted 1,400 pictures I had on there. Now I have about 400 and they'll probably go also.
I also don't like the fact people can download my pictures too. I upload pictures to Facebook but let them resize them into a lower resolution so people don't want use them.
Facebook is also incredibly slow and bloated, which gives me less confidence in why they're in business at all.

I have noticed even on my pc and especially Face Book apps how slow FB is at loading. And i do wish many people on Face Book would talk proper English. Get sick of all this text speak even some of my Irish cousins do it. Instead of saying SAID they say SED. I often have to re read their posts or read slowly. I am on da bus Visit forum to view images

haha bono you are so right, my favourite one with the teens is lyk. It's one letter less than the word like. Im a bit worried how this generation will evolve into adults with a brain! When im in a home these teens will be lukn after me haha lukn, no it's looking!!!!
Bonovox10 years, 11 months ago
Yes future generations who can't speak or spell properly.
etaab10 years, 11 months ago
There is one word, I cannot remember which one, but its a 4 letter word which they use in txt spk, but, when spelt correctly is 4 letters wrong and when used in txt spk, is 4 letters long.
So whats the POINT !?!
I refuse to even talk to anyone who uses txt spk and if they text me using it, I tell them either talk properly or I wont bother replying.

The funny thing about this is ~ so many BB users refused touch screen devices because of l33t speak or txt speak. I get the reason for txt speak due to the 160 Character limit and the rising costs every year for students in high-school forced to a very limited voice and data plan where SMS is awarded in tiny buckets of 100-250/mth and overages are huge; bills paid for by parents. I too refuse this txt speak, always have always will. Too much is left to inference that is wrong.

Hey Etaab,
Looking at those photos it's almost like comparing the number of Android users vs iPhone users in many regions across the globe, and also highlights perfectly Apple's marketing strategy to a tea! (Show them the simple rich and well to do good life and how you can shine and enjoy and do things simply because nothing is complex, everything in life is a joy and only if you have mega $$ to do so ... 1%'ers? Hmm).
