Dealers of fake Sony Ericsson products fined in UAE
14 December 2010 by Olav Hellesø-Knutsen At least 20 mobile phone shops in Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates has been fined up to 2000 Euro for selling fake Sony Ericsson products Earlier this year the police stormed several shops in the main mobile market and impounded fake products worth more than 10.000 Euros. Detectives from from the Ministry of Interior raided the main mobile phone shop street in the city of Abu Dhabi and seized the passports of the shop owners and instructed them to appear in cort. The verdict is now setteled, and more than 20 dealers where instructed to pay Dh10.000 (2000 Euros) each for selling fake accessories like chargers, batteries, headsets and more. The complaint was filed by Centium Communications, the the main distributor of Sony Ericsson accessories in the UAE. According to Emirates24/7, more than 150 mobile phone shops are base on Defence Road, the largest second hand mobile phone market in the Gulf. This is not the first time the goverment in the UAE are taking steps to minimize the market of un-original Sony Ericsson products. On an earlier raid to the same shopping district, the inspectors from Ministry of Interior impounded more than 500 cheap Chinese handsets worth more than 15.000 Euro.
