- 2.4 inch QVGA-resolution scratch-resistant mineral glass TFT display
- 104 x 49 x 18 (136 grams)
- 8.1 megapixels with auto focus (of course!)
- facial recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image - stabilization, BestPic and red-eye reduction
- xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos
- A-GPS
- Exchange/ActiveSync support
- TV out via ITC-60 accessory
- built-in Wifi (802.11 b/g, one would assume)
- DLNA certified ()
- UMTS/HSDPA models for Europe and the US

The list goes on and on for a Q4 release (unveiling of unit supposedly on the 17-Jun). Of course none of this has been officially announced (link at the bottom of this post) so we'll just have to cross our fingers on the minute details. I don't think I've seen spyshots of this unit anywhere around the web either, so it's laudable for SE to have kept this gorgeous phone under the wraps so well. On top of that, I think this is the best designed phone Sony Ericsson has had since the K800. I don't remember sweating like this when the K850 was first revealed! This looks like the perfect successor to the K800. @

More leaked pics (personally, I prefer the black in the rendered shot above):

VERY nice. Love the idea of a slider camera phone, bout time SE drew one up.

SE has finally done something sensible after along time.

WOOOOOOOOW.... and just WOOOOW.
i was dreaming of such device by SE.

If this is going to be the next high end flagship Cybershot then I really hope make a much stronger slide mech than whats fitted to current models.
Top section looks similar to the W910 I think.

Personally I think I'll pass on this as well. None of the Cybershot phones have interested me since the K800 (the second longest phone I've owned @ 12 months. 1st longest was the S700 @ 30 months) and slides phones are hit and miss imo.

Why not a swivel ? could get the same size screen in as a slider (maybe bigger). Look at the W900. Excellent phone and still is. The swivel mech is a great deal stronger than the slide mech that they make.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my T650 if the C902 isnt an improvement over the K850.

Posted by jepherberich
Rookwise: yes, indeed. The swivel form factor is very and I would've liked to see a real S700 successor in that regard. But we'll take what we can, eh? I actually think the W910's slider mechanism is pretty strong; I've had one for the past 3 months and it hasnt shown signs of being broken-in. We can only hope this carries over to the C905.

ojojojojojo...this is just freaking awesome, (if ts true)

The C905 is the latest camera offering from Sony Ericsson featuring a fully spec’d 8.1 mega pixel camera with auto focus, face recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image stabilization, BestPic, red-eye reduction, xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos. It’s got a video stabilizer feature as well. You can geo-tag your photos with the built-in GPS with further support for A-GPS, and the large camera resolution makes it possible to do prints in up to A3 sizes! Your photos will automatically flip to landscape mode, when you tilt your phone, as it’s got a built-in accelerometer. You’ll be able to watch your photos on a beautiful 2.4 inch QVGA-resolution scratch-resistant mineral glass TFT display. Feel like sharing your photos on a TV-set? That’s possible as well with the TV-Out Cable ITC-60, also to be announced on the 17th.

That’s not all, though… C905 will be the first feature phone by Sony Ericsson to sport built-in WiFi with DLNA-support, so all media in your home can be shared. It’s also got the latest in Bluetooth connections, supports USB 2.0 data transfers, and can be synchronized with Exchange ActiveSync.

Looks really beautiful in black. If there's no optical zoom then it's a waste.

Agree with you Rookwise that sliders aren't as durable, that's why I would never own one at least the standard ones, ie, W910,N95 as opposed to the X1 type.

plankgatan,

Why shouldn't it be true?

Posted by >500
whats wrong with the w910 slider

the 6 or 7 ive played with, and the one i owned, all had very sturdy sliders, even after a bit of use. my brothers is a few months old, its still very strong!

any way back on topic now......

Posted by Dups!
^^^
have you owned one for at least one and a half year? If you're one of those people that change phones every six to eight months then sliders are perfect for you.

Its impossible to have owned a W910i that long. I've had mine around three months and it shows absolutely no signs of loosening or anything. Its still as smooth as the day I got it. So if the change over 3 months is zero, I expect that over one and a half years the change will be either very little or none. Why are you so skeptical of a product that is unreleased? We can't tell until its released what it is like, and it is premature to judge it at this stage.

Posted by iqtidar
my n95 which is more than one year old is still usable upto today..

Posted by Dups!
@Oli

I meant a Sony Ericsson slider and not a W910 as you rightly pointed out that it is still new. The sturdiest SE slider is the W850, after that they are not as reliable.

Where in my post did I complain about this phone except to say that SLIDERS aren't as durable? Oh, I also wished for optical zoom.

Please don't put words in my mouth.

Well considering you were replying to a post about a W910i, I think anyone would assume you're talking about the same thing. And it certainly looks like you were. I didn't put words in your mouth, but perhaps you should explain more carefully what you mean next time.

The W910i is still a fine example that Sony Ericsson can make a sturdy, smooth slider that can stand the test of time. So there is a good chance that this C905 will have a good slide mechanism also.

that looks bloody nice :|

Posted by >500
w910 and w850 sliders are very similar, strength wise....

and back off topic again

on topic now. shiho doesnt look too bad. not too plain, not too out there.

>500: that was also my initial reaction when the K800 was first outed; now looking back, I think it was the best designed ever. It wasnt as functional as the other 's, but boy, did it look good. Especially the James Bond silver edition. I hope they come out with something similar for the C905 too

Posted by soulsaber
at least the lens is decent size...unlike c902!

Posted by sigea
Sexy and simple!

Love the scratchproof screen part, about time they made it standard

Nice...Fingers crossed and hoping for optical Zoom and no noise in pictures

And hoping theres a silver/metallic colored one!!

I like the look of this. I hope it is UIQ as I would want it for sat nav which the non-UIQ are no good at.

Posted by masada1971
OMG!!Simply amazing design and features!!bye bye N82..I hope its camera its good and with good colour reproduction...(not like k850)...

Posted by EddieAdams
Love it. Hope the slider doesn't become an issue over time. Also hope it takes better and more consistent photos than k850. Really glad they stuck with the dual lighting for video/torch and photos. The lens cover is a welcome return. SE may finally be getting back on track....

waiting for 17 june lets see if this will be my next phone. If this will be better than the k850i, i mean BETTER not just a 10% improvement, then my dreams will come true. Big screen, im gona watch tons of movies so i hope for a GOOD cpu, and not like the k850i wich has the same as k810 so i get alot of phone freezes. IMO 300mhz or 400Mhz would be enough. Pity it doesnt have nvidia chip for accelerating 3D.
Look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p69T3cWHBs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7R90A7ZqLU&feature=related

Im going for this if photo quality Is better than with my k810 with supermode. I really need that flash lite, accelerometer, wifi, and the media player X.

backup to iphone??? y would u even want iphone if u had this??? what jus to zoom pictures with ur fingers and flick through ur music all day?? LOL

In good old days there was an information about working frequencies always in the first place. Now, when mobile phones can work in quite many frequencies, this uselful info is hided somewhere else.

Now people are talking mainly about megapixels and other weird stuff. Phone is not a phone anymore

I had the iPod touch and I'm getting the iPhone 3G when it's out - even just for the mobile version of Safari that's in there, it justifies the price for what I use it for. As much as I love I think that's where iPhone still blows every mobile browser out there. Had decided to put a full touch screen on this thing, then the new Opera Mobile looks like very good competition to MobileSafari

the iphone is just more enjoyable to use.. the c905 would be nice to take to the bars pretty much and take a few snaps and respond to sms.. otherwise the iphone is just more useful imo..

the c905 just barely replaces my n95 which is currently the backup to my iphone... and the n95 does more then the c905

@jepherberich, DargonEye
i guess different people prefer different things...i personally don't see it as such a pleasure to use...touchscreen is nice..but i really need proper keys!!! tactile feedback is very important to me for it to be a pleasure to use.

altho i do agree internet browsing would be pretty good on the iphone...i cant see what other functionality it beats c905 at
>c905 camera is definitely better
>media player ...i think both are diff but just as good
>texting and calling...well like i said c905 has proper keys so in my opinion is better

so what else would u really need the iphone for to be honest????

and not to forget c905 i m sure will be able to act as mass storage so u could easily transfer songs and photos to any computer easily!!!

Posted by Guto_ViP
Nice!!! Maybe a can back to SE!!!!

Need only come with linux operation system or another!

Posted by Duran
Lets hope they get the firmware right on this one. (for their sake)

Anyway great phone, i've never had a slide but this one looks nic

Posted by Prakash
Does it have video calling camera ?
The one near the earphone looks more like light sensor

Posted by borizz
Beautiful!!!!! I am amazed...hope to hold it in my hands as soon as possible

Posted by Alfaro
Magnificent! Hope it won't be a disappointment like my K850!

Now I'm not sure witch one to buy... a notebook or this master piece.

Posted by NightBlade
Am I the only one that's glad that it doesn't have UIQ but A3?

Posted by shyam335
Yea,That's good and bad at same time.

Like I said in my previous post, the Safari browser + touchscreen experience really sold it for me. I'm probably really just a good test case: I lug two phones all the time, plus an iPod, so the iPhone will really just replace my iPod and my backup phone (so I'll have one less thing to carry around). At the end of the day, finding what you might like on the iPhone (and this is true for any phone, or device, for that matter) is just a case of "different strokes for different folks".

Back on topic... yes I do like that it's not UIQ. and (as pointed out by quite a few people already)... it's quite weird that I can't see a video call camera in there... I will be more than blown away if it's in there somewhere next to the top soft keys and is just obscured by the design of the top row

Posted by Supa_Fly
VERY nice design!

Wow PeterKay was not kidding saying the P5i was nothing to look forward to but wait for Shiho. Now if this C905 has a FAST Arm11 cpu dual core then it'll perform VERY well.

WiFi FINALLY in a feature phone & also TV OUT! Yes. Maybe this is why was waiting for TV-Out = VGA recording but is it at a smooth 30fps wiht MP4 video?!

A phone like this along with a very fast cpu for VERY fast menu executions, camera executions (just how fast is the camera ready to snap a picture from say home screen, or exiting a java app?!), DESERVES Liquid Lens to enable optical zoom.

thanks, now my SE K850i just dropped another $100 CAN

Posted by fbloise
I still love my K850... But those specs like wifi and GPS...
If the K850 had this, would be the perfect phone.
