We have new a couple of Sony Xperia model numbers. Photo from the website below.

Thanks to E_D___B_A_N_G_E_R from reddit for posting the link to the site with the new model numbers. Here is the link to the site, select others and scroll down.

As pointed out by Ed, the 3 Xperia 1 VII model codes were also discovered back in September 2024 and posted by Gizmochina. So seeing the new codes now seems to line up with the current model's release pattern.

While we only have 2 model variants right now, the Gizmochina article also only showed 3 variants, where as the Xperia 1 VII has 5 in total now that it is released.

PM-1500-BV
PM-1502-BV
PM-1503-BV
PM-1504-BV
PM-1505-BV

So this new model, PM-152x-BV could be the new Xperia 1 VIII, but this is only a theory based of past data.

May be they will evolve the design, like the 10 vii.

hmm perhaps so. here is a quick mock up using the current phone. Not sure if the bezel around the camera module would increase, or stay the same, if such a deign change were to take place.

Maybe changing the camera to a horizontal layout would have some advantages for the internal packaging of components? It could interfere with the 3.5mm port. The new 10 VII has the port at the top as well, but it is missing one camera module on the right side, which I would think the new 1 would have.

Good effort, doesn't look bad at all.

I really do hope they keep the textured back and ribbed frame. I really, really do miss the notification light though, more than anything else. It was just so useful.

I also use the notification light all the time. It was fantastic and it's a damn shame they got rid of it. I just can't believe it takes up that much space??

It is unfortunate they removed the notification LED, I use it all the time on my 5 III. Not really sure why they removed it.

Hoping it's not the last one

It told me when / if the phone was fully charged, without having to wake up the screen and search for my reading glasses on to see what percentage was in the top corner of the screen.

LOL - we have been around too long. needing reading glasses to see if our battery is charged hahaha.

It was very useful. I obviously used it for charging, but for the apps that supported it, knowing when I had a message/notification and from what app was nice too.

ah well. unfortunately the world moves on and companies like apple and samsung define what is the norm/standard. i guess we should be happy we still have a shutter key, stereo front facing speakers, and a 3.5 audio jack. if those get removed, then there's no real reason to choose xperia over the major players, which are cheaper and more readily available. here in the states, it's either iphone, pixel, or samsung. i think motorola is still selling some stuff but they are just as expensive or more expensive than the big 3 for less features.

I'm not yet at the point where I have to increase the font size and change other stuff in the accessibility menu but I'm definitely moving in that direction, ha ha.

Yes, I used different colours for different message notifications, cyan for Whatsapp, blue for messenger etc. It sort of 'uniquified' the device.

As for the lanyard loop, well I drive small holes in the corner of the case and thread through a wrist strap - I can't see them bringing the lanyard loop back. Unfortunately.

Today Qualcomm revealed through their press announcement that Sony would be featuring the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in a flagship model. Naturally one would assume this is the Xperia 1 VIII. This is good news, question is, will the phone be available in the same markets as this year? Or only in Asia?

Third OEM ID found, meaning 1 viii will be leased at least in three countries or operators.

If it won't be a dual layer sensor, is it the best Sony has to offer? Sony's problems with photos are not the sensors, but the processing.

It would be a shame if it wasn't, seeing how it supposed to be the new king of sensors.

i have yet to order a VII. if there was any credible rumors/news that they would be adding the 200mp sensor to the VIII, I would wait for it.

decisions decisions!

We're forever waiting for the next big thing.. What are the chances we'll see a new design language as in the last 10 series?

Posted by RacSony
The second 2026 Xperia spotted. Seems sony will release at least 1 viii and 10 viii.

There is also a 4th variant for the xperia 1 VIII, PM-1524-BV. This could be the softbank version.

We don't know if 152x is 1 viii. 153x could be 1 viii

except in past releases, the 1 series was always the first of the range then the 5, then the 10. now that the 5 is gone, it it 1 then 10.

Your guess is probably correct. I also think 152x is 1 VIII. But we shouldn't state it definitively just yet.

That would be horrible. 200mp in a smartphone camera is a hoax and just a marketing trick.

Posted by goldenface
Yes but marketing is everything. Try explaining to the average user that 200MP is overkill.

Overkill in the sense that the lens can only reproduce around 12mp~ anyway

Obviously there's no sense explaining this to the masses, but Sony have always gave us true and real products.

200mp is for cropping photo purpose. It's just like xperia 5v , 1vi and 1vii 2 x crop zoom, for 200mp it can roughly crop zoom till around 4 times (but of course will not achieve full 200mp) without using Optical zoom , and perhaps sony will use 4 times onward to further Optical zoom Limited by the physical calculation / their pre planned zoom range.

See 7.05 minutes about cropping.

That is , if Sony use the 200mp sensor. 😅😅

The lens can resolve around 5% of those 200mp. Since the lens is the limiting factor, it doesn't matter how many more megapixels above the capability of the lens the sensor has, you won't get any extra detail and you won't have any more crop ability.

While that might be true for film cameras it is not true for mobile cameras. That myth has been debunked right after SSS first 50mp quadbayer sensor. It too has advertised sensor crop zoom but in reality all you got was mushy mess. They way they do it now is they reconstruct the whole thing in the shooting pipeline, from shooting native 50mp with no actual detail advantage, processing it with serial effects for additional detail generation, crop in, and then process it some more for another round of detail retention/generation.

Exactly, because the lens doesn't provide. What do get is interpolation and nothing more.
