As pointed out by Ed, the 3 Xperia 1 VII model codes were also discovered back in September 2024 and posted by Gizmochina. So seeing the new codes now seems to line up with the current model's release pattern.
While we only have 2 model variants right now, the Gizmochina article also only showed 3 variants, where as the Xperia 1 VII has 5 in total now that it is released.
PM-1500-BV
PM-1502-BV
PM-1503-BV
PM-1504-BV
PM-1505-BV
So this new model, PM-152x-BV could be the new Xperia 1 VIII, but this is only a theory based of past data. |

May be they will evolve the design, like the 10 vii.

hmm perhaps so. here is a quick mock up using the current phone. Not sure if the bezel around the camera module would increase, or stay the same, if such a deign change were to take place.
Maybe changing the camera to a horizontal layout would have some advantages for the internal packaging of components? It could interfere with the 3.5mm port. The new 10 VII has the port at the top as well, but it is missing one camera module on the right side, which I would think the new 1 would have.

Good effort, doesn't look bad at all.
I really do hope they keep the textured back and ribbed frame. I really, really do miss the notification light though, more than anything else. It was just so useful.

I also use the notification light all the time. It was fantastic and it's a damn shame they got rid of it. I just can't believe it takes up that much space??

It is unfortunate they removed the notification LED, I use it all the time on my 5 III. Not really sure why they removed it.

It told me when / if the phone was fully charged, without having to wake up the screen and search for my reading glasses on to see what percentage was in the top corner of the screen.

LOL - we have been around too long. needing reading glasses to see if our battery is charged hahaha.
It was very useful. I obviously used it for charging, but for the apps that supported it, knowing when I had a message/notification and from what app was nice too.
ah well. unfortunately the world moves on and companies like apple and samsung define what is the norm/standard. i guess we should be happy we still have a shutter key, stereo front facing speakers, and a 3.5 audio jack. if those get removed, then there's no real reason to choose xperia over the major players, which are cheaper and more readily available. here in the states, it's either iphone, pixel, or samsung. i think motorola is still selling some stuff but they are just as expensive or more expensive than the big 3 for less features.

I'm not yet at the point where I have to increase the font size and change other stuff in the accessibility menu but I'm definitely moving in that direction, ha ha.
Yes, I used different colours for different message notifications, cyan for Whatsapp, blue for messenger etc. It sort of 'uniquified' the device.
As for the lanyard loop, well I drive small holes in the corner of the case and thread through a wrist strap - I can't see them bringing the lanyard loop back. Unfortunately.

Today Qualcomm revealed through their press announcement that Sony would be featuring the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in a flagship model. Naturally one would assume this is the Xperia 1 VIII. This is good news, question is, will the phone be available in the same markets as this year? Or only in Asia?
