A brand new year for brand new rumours

Posted by goldenface
Nice to see that 2025 thread open. Thanks

Posted by ascariss
If Sony were to move their models to Mediatek chipsets, would people be against this? Like the Dimensity 9400 for example?

I'll be first to spread rumors. Only one phone this year

Posted by goldenface
Would that be the new Pro? I hope so.

I've seen the Xperia 10 on sale absolutely everywhere in the last few months. I'd expect a new version this year.

My source actually says it's true.

Eh where's your sauce from?

Normally, we find two model numbers at this time of year. But this time there is only one so far (PM-150x-BV). So, it is not impossible that there is only one model.

The last phone on the fcc is the xperia 1 VI, with no other new devices since end of July. The PM codes are from gizmochina. No idea what their track record is with rumours.

OF course, just because something is not on the FCC doesn't mean it was delayed or cancelled. Most of Sony's devices appear around march, and some in the fall, but Sony has changed their plans, then who knows when we'll see a new device certified.

WH-1000XM6 passed FCC.

Rumor of a changed lens , likely the telephoto lens.

Surely it would have to be changed for the better.

Bring back the notification light and the lanyard hole.

the notification light is a MUST. i can go without the lanyard hole. but that notification light gives me so much information just by being a different color or flashing a certain pattern.

definitely need an new phone this year for security reasons more than anything, so i really hope sony goes back to making a premium, albeit very niche, phone. be sony. stop trying to conform to the norm just to sell phones. i'll pay extra for that sony "this is us, deal with it" style.

I have to come out of the woodwork to say that the "prototype" seen on Reddit is nothing more than a sloppy made fake
As for future Xperia, nothing really changed. Sony cancelled some unannounced Xperia model(s) at the end of 2024 because they are unsaleable. 2025 will be even more bleak.

of course it is fake, the walkman logo is compressed/squished, and wouldn't be on the bottom of the device. Same as the PSP logo, lol.
Someone had some fun with a laser engraver.

Would love to know more about those cancelled devices!
Man I wish they release more than 3 to appeal to a wider market.

xperia phones in the last couple years hadn't impress me much. Sony's OS update support is worse than Motorola at more 2-20 times the price and being lackluster on some of the mobile phone basics. I can understand a good phone that covers all its basics demanding niche price for the niche features, but it almost look like xperia phones sacrifice the basics for niche feature yet demanding premium price. for the price of xperia phones, I would make sure it's competitive against motorola, xiaomi, samsung...etc in the $40-$300 price range for the basics before I'll consider paying for the niche price premium

once I took pictures (default mode, no tuning/setup) of a canadian goose family where their 8-10 babies came sitting right next to me near a creek during day time. pictures looked ok on the xperia phone, but looked like canvas painting texture on PC monitor with no scaling or zooming

mediatek soc should be fine these days. at least I don't see noticeable performance difference on motorola and samsung phones between the qcomm and mt soc variants of the same series

MWC coming in a couple weeks...

no information what we could see from sony? is sony even going?

my poor xperia 1m2 needs love but it's still going. I just hope there's a good option from sony this year. It saddens me that the choices for flagship level phones here in the states are basically iphone, galaxy, or pixel.

B-O-R-I-N-G.

come on sony. you're my only hope.

maybe Sony and sony mobile won't be at the show. A search on the MWC vendor website, does not show Sony. Were they even at the show last year?

https://www.mwcbarcelona.com/exhibitors?search=sony

Only Sony semiconductor Solutions.

For comparison, Samsung is there and has a large space.

Yea, i saw that. I think sony has skipped MWC since before COVID. They have been announcing at their own press conferences. Not to mention going from a line of mobile phones/devices down to a single model or two probably put the nail in the coffin as far as sony showing up at MWC.

Shame. I hope to hear some news about the 2025 model, whatever it may be. Very hopeful and wishful that they bring back unique sony features. If they are going to do sony phones, they need to cater to the sony fan instead of the mass market. they aren't going to win any market share even if they do more mass market friendly design changes but they will lose those hardcore sony fans.

someone been reading our conversation here, notably notebookcheck.

https://www.notebookcheck.net[....]25-virtually-nil.964768.0.html

however, while those details unfortunately come from somewhat sketchy sources, this latest information is verifiable: Sony Mobile is not listed as an exhibitor for MWC 2025.

Their (Daniel Deakin) post is from 8 hours ago, and our info is from at least 24hours ago. No doubt they read it here, because I don't think anyone else is covering xperia like esato. And sure one could have checked MWC exhibitor info, but why didn't they post about it earlier?

hah. i think it's probably coincidence as MWC is just around the corner. but maybe he is following our convo.

anyway - a shame we won't be hearing anything concrete about this year's model yet. no concrete rumors. no real news in any way. will they even release something this year?

that sumahodigest link shared by tai sounds good.

i know the image shared isn't anything concrete, but i wouldn't mind a camera array like that. looks kind of nice to me. haha

just hope they bring back the sony specific features that made them unique. screw the mass market. give us sony fans what we want!

I too would like to see a change to the camera lens huddle. The chances of it happening though are probably miniscule.

I agree the chances are pretty much zero. I just want Sony to make a SONY phone. It's a niche phone. There is only one model. They should put all their best tech in it and make their fans happy. Dropping features to appease the mass market and stupid review sites who aren't gonna buy the phone anyway is pointless.

I need a proper upgrade damn it!

I feel your pain my Xperia brothers, I love the hardware more than anything, but if they're not committed to give more than 2 years of android updates, you'll be left with near zero software support. My 5 iv is now obsolete and it has some bugs that I don't expect to ever be fixed. I'm jumping ship once I see what the Pixel 10 is like so it'll be that or a mini flagship like a Xiaomi 15.

Software is so important now and massively boosts the phone experience. Hardware evolution has reached a plateau so mid phones like Nothing really focus on software and they feel like flagships. I don't mind spending a bit more for hardware since I like to keep my phone for a good few years, but not when the software support will be non-existent.

Posted by Ambivalent_
There will be another hardware race in running LLM models (AI) natively on the phone. I'm not talking about stuff you can do already. I'm talking about having an option of running most of your phone functions via voice or text prompts.

I hope Sony catches on to this wave with the right partnership.

Xperia 1m6 comes with 3 major OS updates and 4 years of security patches. For me, I think that is sufficient since most people are updating their phones within 3-4 years anyway.

Apple and Samsung do offer longer terms, which is impressive. But how well are those phones working with the latest software on that old hardware? I would imagine they are pretty laggy.

Hoping somebody/ companies do thorough research create a topic and post whether these companies really honor their 5-7 years Android updates, or are they just a hoax / lip service.

I'll believe it when I see it. So is the sensor finished development? or just starting? because these things take time.

It's a joke I hope))) Will the Xperia 1 VII have a 16:9 format? And maybe a return to 4k resolution? It will take both hands to handle it)))

That is if battery last as long as the xperia 1vi. Full HD is fine with me too after owning both xperia 1v and vi and compared both displays under naked eye and the vi did a better display quality !
