Mizzle, mate, when are you going to review the c702? please do an audio review as well. please

Posted by Mizzle
If the audio test requires extra hardware, then it's not happening any time soon, as I've got other things to purchase.

Dunno if I'll review C702, as it's rather uninteresting compared to G700/G900, but I'll definitely do a large preview

Posted by Mizzle
OK, it's splash proof

"New" firmware availble with SEUS, R3BA035.
The initial one I had was R3BA030.

Posted by Mizzle
I posted a large-scale preview of it here, if anyone wants to have a look.

Review from HK PhoneDaily:

Price: HKD 2,980

And those photos seems not the best among 3.2M phone but ok ...
(please see them in the link)

Can someone tell me more about Class of Protection IP54 means?

IP 54 is a standard of protection that an enclosure( junction box) offers against the ingress of foreign objects /substances:
The full description of the standard is below

First digit: 5
Protection for persons: Protection against a wire touching dangerous parts.
Definition: A body 1,0 mm in diameter must not be able to enter. IP 5X

Test conditions: The accessing probe is pushed against every opening of the enclosure with a standardised force or is inserted through the opening.
Conditions for acceptance: The protection is satisfactory if a sufficient distance between the accessing probe and dangerous parts is kept.
Protection for equipment: Protection against dust.
Definition: Dust penetration is not prevented altogether, but dust must not enter in sufficient quantities to prevent the equipment from operating satisfactorily, or to impair safety.
Test conditions: The test is carried out in a dust chamber in which talcum powder is being kept suspended in the air by means of a dust distributor or similar device. The enclosure which is being tested is placed in the test chamber while a vacuum pump keeps the pressure in the enclosure below the atmospheric pressure of the environment according to the standard.
Conditions for acceptance: The protection is satisfactory if the inspection shows that talcum powder has not accumulated in places or in quantities in a way that could impair the good working order of the operating material or represent a safety hazard, regardless of the type of dust concerned.

Second digit: 4
Protection against water : Protection against water spray.
Definition: Water splashes on to the enclosure from any direction must not have any harmful effects. IP X4

Test conditions: The enclosure is tested by means of a spray head or a flushing pipe which is aimed at it from all sides according to the standardised testing time / volume flow.
Conditions for acceptance: Should water have penetrated, it must not
- be present in quantities which impair the good working order of the operating material or represent a safety hazard;
- deposit on non-conducting parts where it could lead to creep currents;
- come in contact with live parts or coils which are unsuitable for operating in wet conditions;
- collect near the wire end or possibly penetrate the wire.

Important note:
The protection classifications given for the enclosures refer to unmachined standard enclosures as supplied. As the tests to show protection classifications take no account of ageing, the maintenance of the protection classification throughout the lifetime of the equipment is not guaranteed.

In short, not good enough yet. I'm still waiting for a proper waterproof phone, ideally it will also float....

Till then.... guess this'll have to do. By the way IP54 I believe is the same standard as that 'tough phone' JCB/Sonim thing. Not bad, just I want more than that

Has anybody upgraded to the rumored R3BHO35? I presume that it is up on SEUS but not for all regions yet.

After umming and ahhhing, i've finally gone and bought this phone. I have been wondering though. How does the warranty cover water damage on this phone. Would water damage actually be something you could get the phone replaced under warranty?

No way, you'd be lucky! The phone is splash resistant, that's all. If you claimed for water damage SONY would just say that you'd immersed it in water (when they don't claim it to be waterproof).

I would have thought as much, there goes my thoughts of going for a paddle with it.

Interestingly, watching the gadget show yesterday, they were 'testing' rugged laptops (the panasonic toughbook and some motorolla thing) and they are also rated to IP54, They seemed to do well, being buried in sand for 10 mins, and sprayed with a firemens hose. Sadly they just couldn't stand being blasted 20 feet in the air by explosive. Damn!

Posted by c96sthl
I don;t think c702 is IP54... or did i miss up the spec?...opsss it did stated in product page

no it says the c702 is ip54 theres a full information sheet about it.

Posted by sandy4464
i've just got mine in the post now, its fantastic! A good replacemnt to my aging K850

Posted by Burgaz
Bought mine yesterday!

Loving it so far, but i have one question...

How do you activate the Geotagging feature? Does the GPS have to be active first and where do you view the geotagging information?

Cheers

Burgaz

Posted by number1
For geotagging enable the gps, in the camera settings at the end of the menu go to add position then turn it on, there will now be a satilite icon at the top of the camera viewfinder when the icon is coloured in it means it has a satilite connection and geotagging is active but sometimes it takes ages to get a connection, so before you want to take geotagged pics under location services go to status info run it and minize it and leave it there until you have finished with the geotagging it.

Posted by Burgaz
Cheers for that number1!

One thing i am noticing tho is that most of my pics come out extremely blurred and out of focus!? Any one else getting this?

Burgaz

Posted by number1
No problem with mine i get really good pic quailty its queit difficult to get blurry pics
Check the lens for fingerprints or marks, also make sure you hold the phone really still press the camerabutton lightly to avoid jolting it.

Posted by sandy4464
Well, just got back home after being to work and back with the phone, and i've only got two gripes, one small one and one bigger one.

The first is that i'm doing fine with all the buttons, apart from the vloume ones, especially the down one. It really needs a good hard press to make it work. The bigger one was that listening the music through bluetooth hadphones made the phone run very slowly, in the end i desconnected them and used a wired headset. But i'm sure they'll fix that in a firmware upgrade.

Apart from that, a fantastic phone. Personally, great just as a navigation device, let alone everything else it is!

Posted by number1
I have no problem with the volume keys i dont use bluetooth headsets but sometimes the media player can lag should be fixed with a firmware update the c702 is due a firmware update soon the c902 already has this new firmware.

Does anyone know if its possible to show the clock as a screensaver on this phone? I can only see the option to have a picture or have nothing at all. I hope its just a bug but even when I have selected a picture to use as a screensaver, it only displays for a few seconds before blanking the screen completely and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust this timeout.

While it is on this sleep mode, nothing at all is shown on the screen - on my K750, if I received a text message for example, it would show a little envelope onscreen which would move randomly around along with the digital clock.

Any thoughts?

Posted by Burgaz
It shows the time and if you've recieved any msgs or calls when you press the volume button when the screen is blacked out in stand by mode....

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Its not possible to have that on any new A200 phones (which is a new platform SE has used in new phones from the Z750i, K850i and W910i onwards). Nobody knows why they removed the function, cause it should really be user choice whether to have it or not, but it is just not there.

The only way to get what you want it to simply press the volume key on the side of the phone. This brings up the info you want. It is a little less convenient, but trust me, you'll get used to doing this very quickly.

Posted by vargus
Yeah, I guess I'll have to.

Ok got my C702i and have to say it is soooooooooooooo much better than the K850i. Gone are the waste of time touch keys, it has a way better screen, Gps seems to work ok, I am using amaze, and it seems to be fine, couls do with finding other GPS software to try out, keypad is allot better than the K850i, build quallity is allot better than the K850i, only issues so far are that there are a couple of specs of dust under the screen, and the volume keys are hard to use, but I put this down to the extra water and dust resistance to a normal phone. Have to also say that, vodafone have been brilliant. Got a K850i off them on a new contract, but due to reboots and other issues, they have replaced it with the C702i even though I was over the 28 days for the replacement. Still have an orange branded K850i, but never yet suffered an issue with that phone, only the voda branded one, and the C702i that has come, only has very minimal vode branding on it, it has the live softkey, start up and shut down, voda wap settings, no external branding at all and SE menu not voda. So far very happy, ohh and the other issue is battery life does not seem to be too good.

Posted by number1
No dust under my screen yet it seems to be fitted on very tightly so i dont know how dust would get under it, i find the volume keys fine just as easy to press as the 1 on my k800. Yes battery life does seem poor, and the a2 platform bugs still exist.

after seing some pics of c702, i really think that the quality is really identical to one in the two year old- Samsung D900. i was a user of D900 and i see the pics in my archive folder and really think it's identical. dottish, thick colors, rather dark.

see an example. click to open the original file:

feel like seeing a c702 pic?

Yeah go on then!

Posted by vargus
Has anyone by chance saved the original pictures from their phone? I did a master reset and wiped the buggers. If you'd like to help me out, please do

Posted by vargus
Nevermind that, i found em on the se wap site.

Posted by reggiele
Does anybody know if the new R3CA033 firmware is available on SEUS? Davinci has the above firmware already... but I just would not like to pay extra money for that...

Posted by jigonx
