10 February 2008

Sony Ericsson’s new C702 Cyber-shot™ and C902 Cyber-shot™ deliver best-in class picture quality beyond just megapixels.

Barcelona, Spain – 10th February 2008 – Sony Ericsson today announced two high-performance additions to its popular Cyber-shotTM phone range with the launch of the C702 Cyber-shot™ and C902 Cyber-shot™. The two phones, packed with the latest camera technology, make it effortless to take perfect pictures of those spontaneous moments – day or night, at a bar or the beach – and instantly share them with friends and family.

“The two new Cyber-shot™ phones that we have announced today share certain characteristics. Both phones place ease-of-use and best-in-class picture quality at the heart of their designs,” said Sven Totté, Head of Imaging Marketing at Sony Ericsson. “Yet both appeal to different audiences. One is engineered to let you take more pictures in more places and the other is designed to look as stunning as the pictures it takes.”

Sony Ericsson C702 Cyber-shotTM – Take pictures everywhere

Splash and dust resistant* – perfect for your active lifestyle
Single-handed camera use – for spur-of-the-moment photos
Built-in GPS with location-based imaging – sort and view your photos according to where you took them

Never too extreme

You can use the C702 Cyber-shot™ in a range of different conditions, as its unique design means its both splash and dust resistant*. This means that whether you’re off-road or just off to the mall, your C702 Cyber-shot™ phone can always be at your side wherever you go, whatever you do. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you.

Never miss a shot

The C702 Cyber-shot™ is engineered to let you take pictures in any position. The camera key and the active lens cover are specifically designed and placed so that you can stabilise the 3.2 megapixel camera and capture the moment with one hand - perfect for an active lifestyle. Combine this with steady-grip materials and a wrist-strap provided in-box, and the C702 Cyber-shot™ really is geared to go more places.

Never lost

The C702 Cyber-shot™ integrates GPS and a range of location-based imaging services that really add a new dimension to taking and managing your photos. When you take a picture, information about where you are in the world is automatically added to the image. So you can always share your best moments with your friends and family according to where the shots were taken. Or you can simply sort the picture through your photo gallery on the PC or on the web.

If you are lost on your travels, Google™ Maps for Mobile locates and guides you to where you want to go, enabling you to roam free with confidence. Use GPS to pinpoint your location and then get turn-by-turn voice guidance to your destination. Find your way home or to one of up to 20 million points of interest.

Dude, you shouldn't pay so much attention to the SAR value. I mean, if this phone were to roast your brain, they wouldn't release it, would they (or any other phone for that matter)?

Some one tell me what SAR range is safe?

I am not sure... I have read all those surveys about mobile phones and I am a little worried...

Here's what GSMArena said about the C702's camera.

"The photos of the 3.2 megapixel camera are pretty good, with fine detail and nice level of sharpening. The images are well balanced with mild contrast. We have some issues with the focus in macro mode, but do remember that this is not the final version of the camera firmware. Generally, image quality is above Sony Ericsson K810."

I think that's quite good.

Posted by goldenface
That sounds good. The K810i takes good quality pics as has been demonstrated right here. Would be good to see some examples.

In US SAR is measured in different way than in EU. That's why there are more than one SAR document for each SE phone. For instance T650 has measured SAR of 1.8 for EU using the ICNIRP recomendation and 1.45 for US using the FCC recomendation. One can roughly say that FCC 1.6 corresponds to ICNIRP 2.0 (they are probably not 100% equivalent).

Guys, here's a weird one for you, the phone's already being sold at one of the major mobile phone retailers in Bulgaria. And it's not that expensive, too (about $450).

Posted by number1
the c702 is only a mid-range phone thats why it's cheap.

c702 Is on my list too but not for now, when the price drop a little more.

Is a cool phone with a nice design..

I'll be looking for a new phone August-September time. This one seems to be a sensible choice.
But then again, the tech world moves so quickly there's gonna be like 2 successors to this in that time!

From the samples i've seen, it seems to be worse than the K800/K810. Lots of purple fringing and noise, and subpar colors.

I prefer the c902

this unit definitely caught my attention

Question:
will the MXE-flash accessory be compatible with c702? anyone?

Posted by aldrinus
@crossm:

i think the port is different, unless i'm mistaken

Posted by Coquito
I doubt mxe-60 will be compatible with c702, as it isnt compatible with older models like k550/w610,w880,k770,w580...etc

SE should release a new xenon accesory as they are making too much phones withow it.

second the motion. the LED flash enabled phones should also get a chance to have xenon flash, hence a need for a new xenon accessory

Bulgaria maybe is the only European country where the C702 is released.I haven't heard of it being released in any other country.

I totally forgot about this. I was actually considering the W890 but dont intend to use the walkman feature as i already have an ipod so just wanted a nice small but sturdy phone that has a good battery, is good for texting and takes nice pics. So I guess I should really be looking at this baby right? Dont get me wrong the C902 looks nice but i dont like the camera lens cover system or the touch senseitive button.

Can anyone confirm if the C702 is running on A200 platform? And its definatley 2.2 inch screen?

Yes and yes.

Nice one nightblade. I think I have found my next phone. And its price on play is listed as £249 for release. GSMArena also says its pic quality is generally above the K810.

One thing I dont get though if the C series is the new cybershot then why isnt both the 702 and 902 using a xenon flash?

1) So that they can be more affordable.
2) Because they aren't flagships.

Oh, and you're welcome.

you wrong.

c902 is the very new flagship (and second also c702)

c902 CANT use any xenon flash because they are to thin. (xenon flash need thicker space). thats why use this new "photo LED flash"

c702 seems to have the same excellent sensor as k810/k800. it produce similar quality. thats nice. but but, K850 will still be better with its real xenon flash. (i do miss "face detection" c702 offers. looks very very cool)

You know technically I reckon this phone is as good in terms of music playback as the w890. Im surprised there are only 3 pages of talk so far for this phone.

It should be released soon right? Is it Q2 or Q3?

Nope, you're wrong. The C902 is just an alternative 5MP phone (to the K850).
What you're right about is that C902 is too thin for a xenon flash, but the C702 isn't. But still they haven't incorporated a Xenon flash because it would make it more expensive.
Also, the G900 doesn't have a photo flash, but a regular LED one.

i read on a blog that both c902 & c702 didnt have the space for a xenon flash. thats why put the new photo LED flash
it kind a strange anyway. c902 is 10mm. c702 is 15mm. k810 and k850 is 17mm. maybe is this extra 2mm who needs

funny, so its a step back then... reading the specs again, se gonna launch the same specs as in the last 2 years, so why to rename a series and launch the "same" fone under a new name then?

Well xenon flash yeah but screen size is the same. Both 2.2 inches.

I cant seem to find an expected launch price on this phone. I know play says £249 but I have read some crazy figures in a few forums just now saying 200 Euros or 220 dollars.

Anyone know?

Posted by plankgatan
you forgett about the face detection. it looks very cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee6-GK9vjpo

and of course the "new" games who runs via the motion sensor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSfQEw40cbU&feature=related

so yes, c702 will be a very good phone (and c902 of course), BUT K850 have still a better camera i think.

c902 camera is not good at all, (have seen quite many pics, they looks unsharp). i really hope its some crappy beta firmware

i read several weeks ago that c902 cam module was to thin/week, thats why the pics didnt came out good. hope its not true

249 gbp is an ok price, 200 euro and 200 usd ( just count ) are insane prices... way too cheap.

Posted by bavlondon2
Yeah thats what I thought but I think Eldar has been quoted as saying it will be 200 Euros. £249 sounds more like it. Anyway yeah Plangktan I dont think think the 702 has the motion whatever for playing those games. Doesnt have bestpic either but has pretty much everything else.

And 30fps QVGA too!! Nice

I think I will definatley be picking this up.

Posted by Zuko
If that is the correct price (249 euros) this phone will be a trully best seller
