Philips has announced the new 650 tri-band (GSM900/1800/1900) clamshell phone offering up to 8.5 hours of talk time and up to 1 month of standby time.

Other features include 7Mb of storage with room for 1,000 phonebook entries of 5 numbers, 20 MMS and 300 SMS storage capacity, and voice recognition. The 650 also has one-touch voice memo activation to capture main phone conversations and allows storage of up to 15 voice conversations of 1 minute each.

Nice features for travelers include an international dual-clock display so travelers can read the times in both home and foreign countries simultaneously without any key operation. It also offers three built-in individual alarm clocks, a snooze timer and automatic on/off switch.

The internal display offers 65K colors at 128 x 160 pixels. The sub-display is an OLED display in blue at 80 x 48 pixels.

The 650 comes with an external camera accessory. Photo features include special effects such as sepia, grey scale and blue colors and FotoCall picture ID. Pictures can be shared with groups of friends and colleagues using Philips' TV Slideshow feature. Phlips 650's optional TV Link accessory is a Plug & Play solution meaning it plugs into a TV set for immediate viewing of photos stored in the phone. The TV Slideshow mode is launched automatically with a choice of auto-slideshow or manual selection modes.

There are 32 polyphonic ringtones with 30 melodies available as well as the ability to download ringtones (network dependent). The 650 also offers hands-free operation.

It includes Java 2.0 and WAP 1.2.1, MMS, email, EMS release 4 to receive and send formatted texts, melodies, images, and capability to use received melodies as ringtones. In addition, the 650 offers Quick SMS so messages are automatically displayed for answering with a single key press. The 650 is also concatenated SMS capable so you can write and send a long SMS by connecting 5 pages and attachments. The 650 can communicate wirelessly with compatible IrDA devices.

The 650 is 88 x 46 x 24.5 mm in size and weighs 93 grams. It comes in Executive Gray, White Bond and Discerning Blue. It features T9(tm) predictive text in 17 languages. The package includes a 90-240V switchable charger, USB datacable, and a headset. Accessories include a TV link, mono deluxe headset, 1100mAh battery, external camera, car cradle, carry case, a cigarette lighter adapter and universal car kit.The new Philips 650 will be introduced this autumn in selected countries.
