Official UK launch of Tocmag: ‘the mobile MySpace'
6 November 2006 by axxxr Tocmag a free service that allows anyone to create mini-magazines for mobiles is launched in the UK today. The magazines can be filled with up to six pages of text, photos, audio and even video. It’s little wonder trend-spotters are calling Tocmag ‘the mobile MySpace’. Tocmags are automatically stored on a phone’s memory, so they can be read anywhere regardless of whether you have mobile reception. During Beta testing phase, an incredible 10,872 Tocmags were built and 123,523 downloads made. These figures were generated entirely by word-of-mouth recommendation. The most popular Tocmag currently is ‘dirtysecrets’ which lists strangers’ confessions (download www.tocmag.com/dirtysecrets to your mobile to get the latest edition). It has already generated nearly 5000 downloads. The variety of Tocmags already in existence is testament to its versatility. These include several virtual business cards, travellers’ logbooks (full of photos, video and commentary to send to friends and family at home), ‘Private’ Tocmags exchanged between couples and even a weekly church newsletter, the possibilities are endless. www.tocmag.com
