All three models is following N8 and are running on the Symbian^3 operating system. All three are smartphones with touch display and the E7 also has a sliding-QWERTY keyboard underneath the hood.

Today, at Nokia World event in London Nokia announced three new smartphones. Two new C-series devices which are Nokia C7 and C6-01. And the Nokia E7. As you might know, Nokia are now naming their phones with C, X, E or N as the first character. The following number indicates which feature and price category the phone belongs. C-series represent the core range of products while E-series devices focuses on productivity and business. Knowing this, you should be able to figure out on which branch on the Nokia tree the new phones are situated.

Symbian^3 is the latest version of the now open source OS by Symbian Foundation. Nokia N8 announced a couple of months ago was the first, and the three new devices announced today are the second, third and forth. Symbian OS is the worlds best selling OS for smartphones. According to a Gartner report Symbian sold 25 million smartphones in second quarter 2010. The second most selling OS was RIM which sold 11 million smartphones. Android and iOS sold 10 and 8.7 million devices during the same quarter. Symbian is by far the best selling smartphone OS today. It will be interesting to see if the release of Symbian^3 will help Symbian stay on top as the post popular smartphone OS.

Nokia C6-01 and C7 seems to share many features. The C7 has a larger display at 3.5 inch, but both screens have a 360x640 pixel resolution. C7 is slightly higher than C6, but it is very slim measuring only 10.5 mm in depth.

Nokia E7 is the follow-up to the older Nokia 9500 Communicator QWERTY model. This was quite popular as a business phone but I doubt that the new E7 will inherit that position. Nokia has more competitors today than it had back in 2004 when the Nokia 9500 was the king on the hill. E7 is a beast with a weight of 176 gram.

At last, a Nokia with a beautiful design. If they had designed E7-like beauties much earlier I'd have jumped ship a long time ago. I'm stuck being an SE fanboy now though :D
