Apple iPhone launch? Place your bets now!

24 November 2006 by axxxr
The hype surrounding the anticipation of the Apple iPhone has reached new heights, with a sports betting site taking bets on the launch date of the handset.

Sports betting site Bodog.com will be using the money line system to gauge whether Apple will introduce the iPhone by the end of April 2007, or whether it will introduce the product at January's MacWorld conference.

Based on the odds given by Bodog, those betting on whether Steve Jobs will announce the iPhone at January's MacWorld will need to wager US$280 to win US$100, while those who think the cellular device will be launched by April 30, 2007, will have to bid US$150 to make US$100. A launch after that date or no launch will score US$110 on a US$100 bet. source:cnet

Most of the rumors and ideas are too far out there. Apple can go a lot less fancy and still have a winner, adding new goodies later.

--Use the same dock connector as an iPod. Many, many options for charging and syncing already exist, including car power.

--Sync music, calendar and contacts exactly as an iPod does now, but bi-directional to add items created on the phone.

--Include a hands-free speaker phone that when docked in the car ( using the millions of existing car kits ) you have a hands free car phone you can use on the way home from the store with the nice clear audio coming from your car stereo speakers.

--Bluetooth for headsets, and minimal syncing would be nice, but not necessary. Syncing 8GB of tunes via bluetooth would be slow, and since you need to charge it anyway, might as well plug it into the computer. BT for the phone headset and for music would be good though.

--Camera would also be a bonus, but not necessary. Syncing with a Mac would dump the images to iPhoto.

--WiFi would also be a bonus, but if present should be 802.11N to be consitent with new Macs.

No need for initial release to support WiFi or mobile iTunes downloads though, those can be future features, or for future iPhones even.

white clamshell looks like an Ipod on the outside, phone on the inside... thats my bet.

As for the IF factor, apple are idiots if they decide not to crossover with the ipod

just a wild guess here... Apple will rip off the standard phone design concept... the phone will have a screen and buttons to dial with. Probably a mic and small speaker to communicate through... buncha thieving bastards are Apple designers... if they come out with an iPhone
