Android 2.1 available for Xperia X8

According to the official Sony Ericsson Product Blog, the Xperia X8 follows the Xperia X10 Mini products when it comes what to expect from the updated operating system. The upgrade roll-out is gradual which means that some markets will have the upgrade before others. The update will be available to different kits where the meaning of kits is different settings, applications, network configuration etc.

The Xperia X8 upgrade should improve the X8 in the following ways

• Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
• New backup and restore application with extended content back up
• Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
• Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
• Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1

Remember to run a backup before you attempt to do an update. After the update, the X8 will be reset to factory default and the only available user content are media stored on the memory card. A restore-from-backup is the only way to bring the phone back to original state.
