I do like the ergonomics of the V and the optics are good and I especially the product feature zoom, which I think is impressive.

I'm starting to believe that Sony will choose not to use LTPO display for all their phones even if they have the ability , because I believe they have pride in the display segment and wanted to live up to the Sony display name. Because with LTPO display , under low shutter speed video recording, you can see the display flickering, which is turn off. I believe Sony does not want this to happen to any of the display. Hence they chose normal OLED instead.

Detail wise they are comparable. But colors. Sony seem more accurate and natural and seems more dynamic. (As always )

Quadbayer 52MP, but because of its ratio the image circle can only cover 48MP in 4:3 mode (looks like 888 it is dual layer version of imx789 from OP9 pro) , also it is locked at 12MP like pixel and A7s3.

Xperia Finally nailed it.

Even the Telephoto sensor's quality has been improved.

Problem is samsung, not HP2. It is most advanced isocell ever.

Samsung uses too much NR to erase noise, then has to apply tons of sharpening to recover texture.

Often you get oil painting effect. Also the whole too much shadow lifting makes noise more visible in darker areas.

Problem with periscope last year was software. Mainly focus.

This is why many were talking about blurry photos.

I do not understand why some ppl brag about the USA version is cheaper than last year.

It is cheaper because now USA gets 256GB instead of 512GB 1iv.

Video fov has really improved from the new sensor ratio.

There is one omission with WDR video on main cam though, they forgot to apply post processing they do on SDR video. SDR video on mail cam is really sharp but when you switch to wide dynamic range it gets smudged like it was filmed on 1IV/5IV. On 1IV/5IV both sdr and wdr videos look the same (smudged compared to 1V sdr video).

Yes, multi aspect sensor is to keep same fov between 4:3 and video ratios.
I just wish the usable 4:3 area was 1/1.3" instead, also a WRGB cmos.

Bonus: no " silver" for Taiwan, because white was least sold of mark 4 and this "silver" is very close to white. They think ppl may not like again. Looks like black is most popular in Europe while Purple was in Asia.

Well cost cutting is obvious. I'm not sure how much they saved by removing LED notification light considering they had to modify screen bezel in order to hide the translucent part. How much they could have saved there on a whole batch of let's say 700,000 phones? $35K total?

Glass on the back probably has thinner coating because of the diamondback structure. If they went thicker texture would have been lost. I always found Samsungs notorious for plastic feel and sound compared to Xperia because it was obvious they put less coating on the back of their phones, even on front. Xperia back in the XZ days didn't try to save on glass coating. It was thick and when you knocked on it had the thud sound.

While most of us agree that 1IV should have been 1III it was actually Sony who knew something we didn't - upcoming phone market plunge. They knew whole industry will take a hit so they just cruised through it with slightly updated 1II as a testbed for variable zoom lens. 1IV was actually the first ever real deal 1 series phone that did everything right but the market was still struggling. Great preorder numbers (allegedly) for 1V come from recovering market in general. Overall 1V is just a slight evolution of 1IV so it's not the features or redesigned looks that got the preorder numbers jacked up, it's macroeconomics.

On that video on the 4th minute he state ambience temperature of 18-22 degrees. SO it's no wonder he can record more than 3 hours. Somebody should try it on 35 degrees Celsius ambience temperature and update the 4k60fps endurance haha

Super bonus wednesday: Xperia had much more attention from visitors at sony expo China compared to other sony stuff. Socmuch excitement on weibo, mainly because of the few design tweaks and the ability to run way cooler than 1iv, some reports mention 6-7 celsius lower. And ppl do not even see the "hot phone" pop up while recording 4K.

Gray on 1V looks like one of those trendy glossy grays they put on cars right now. I call them primer gray or ceramic gray. Honestly it looks like XZP Chrome except its not reflecting. Awesome color. Pictures cant capture the real hue, you have to see it yourself. I was in Japan for a week so I saw it in person in Sony store.
