Last Sony I had was the Z5 Premium, I've been on Oneplus since then.

I think it's time to come home.

I think this is the most complete phone yet and the purple one looks sweet.

Veeery nice ! I hope that Ericsson will start making mobile phones - again. Will go head-on with Sony and later . . would merge - again ! Love is sweeter the 2nd time around.

Watch sunlight legibility comparisons between Galaxy S22 and iPhone 13

https://youtu.be/4gxUGFZD6Yc

Something other's never state :
Continuous burst in HDR mode! But can only shoot 66-67 pictures because HDR will stack 3 photos exposure. And 200 pictures per second. So total will add up to around 200 shots. (It will likely heat up camera faster too )

Oops apologies. I mean it can shoot up to 200 photos at a single buffer shooting (press and hold till it stop at 200 photos ) but for HDR it shoots up to 60 photos per second because one HDR picture takes 3 shots to stack. So its roughly about slightly over 3 seconds then the buffer stops to record and process the HDR photos.

Glad to see a 5000mah battery in there, I hope they have tamed the Snapdragon 8Gen1 somewhat.
Overall an awesome showing by Sony, this is a very well rounded device.

Yes. They actually listened to feedback and made lots of changes and upgrades besides those serious ones (this case its the charger not coming with package but for saving mother earth sake).

As for processor wise, I believe its not what they predicted it to be this heater and they likely signed the agreement early and unable to cancel / huge forfeit if cancelled and swapped to other processors. So we can just hope Sony do their best at taming this heater dragon. Otherwise I agree its really a very well rounded phone as you say.

Hasn’t this always been Sony’s approach? I guess whoever is fine with it won’t mind, it is a shame though. As long as they launch the phone with the latest OS update and security patches come in time.

definitely a sleeper sleek killer for 2022 year. The mIII is no slouch still.

Still the official OS & ROM support being only 2yrs before needing to goto ASOP route is disappointing. I think Sony could match Samsungs now official 4yr OS support but I believe it’s a tactic to protect their software IP.

don’t believe all the camera reviews you see online. Many are taking by video bloggers who’s skills are barely better than mine, which is to say abysmal!

Watch this video folks by Ollie Nilsson wildlife nature photographer: quite simply put “most impressive”

https://youtu.be/UwuadqanwFc />

Outstanding and to see a real photographer explain a few of the manual controls makes it easy for me a complete under novice to understand.

Yeah, but as most of the manufacturers are giving 4 years updates and phones don't need to get replaced for 5 years.. Sony should also do it since they are taking premium and more over only fans like us will buy their phones.

Apparently 1 IV is not selling that well in China and that is so easy to understand. 1 IV is better than 1 III in every merrit but 1 IV should have been 1 III unforuntately. There is 0 (zero) real reason why 1 III couldn't have come with 120fps on all three modules. There is a 0 (zero) reason why it couldn't have done HDR burst in PP. There is 1 (one) reason why it couldn't have Video Pro on the launch day and that is PRO-I but it should have got the update with Video Pro.

Anyway Sony botched 1 IV by making it look exactly like 1 III instead of givign it some crazy color option like Gold or Red or XZ3 Burgundy to differentiate itself from 1 III in appereance at aleast.

Another 2 more great reviews. These do look legit.

dome typical YouTube reviewers complain about price. The best early previews non-production units are from cineographers or photographers whom do this for a living not just to sit for YouTube. One buys the IV either because you’ve got money as a tech fan or to make you money in your career.

I have to agree. The iterations are becoming smaller and smaller. To the average buyer, I doubt they'd see much difference between the 1 ii and the 1 iv, but it is quite easy to differentiate between the two with a completely new design.

Playing it too safe may backfire.

Congratulations! Enjoy it!
One thing I miss about buying Androids is these sorts of deals, even though I have a pair of Sennheisers, it would be cool if Apple did a 14 Pro Max + AirPod Max deal, but there is a greater chance of pigs flying.

What do you think is the fastest way to transfer data from the old xperia to the new one? Google backup? Xperia backup? Xperia Transfer? Other software?

Now its via USB type C to USB type C phone to phone connection. Fastest method. But you will still need to log in to applications. So prepare your application ID and password list.

Thx for your suggestion. I used google backup wifi transfer method. Eveything is ok, apart some apps that are not used anymore in the new phone (for example sony gallery).

I transfer media via SD, WhatsApp has its own backup and the rest via Google. Xperia transfer is nice but no longer necessary.

I have a white 512GB HK 1 IV (XQ-CT72).

There is a lot to like:

The screen is very good. Seriously impressive.
It's finally bright enough to be used under mediterranean sun in the summer.
4K and HDR 10bit (8+2) are much appreciated as always, and the pro calibration is very good. I had compared it to the latest Dell XPS 17 9720 (top spec) and Xperia wipes the floor with it, at least in terms of color and HDR reproduction and accuracy.

The Dell has a good screen and I'm pretty sure that once I load a calibrated profile it'll do better, but I'm not sure it will be as good as the Xperia in this regard.

It's worth mentioning that mk3 had a green tint in very low brightness when using 120hz. It seems to be gone in mk4.

The speakers were upgraded once more and the whole audio output was upgraded (compared with mk3). I notice some improvements even when I listen to music in my car. I will also mention the haptics which are premium quality in my opinion.

It's very fast and the system is clean as usual.

I like that Sony keeps the 3.5mm and the SD slot. I got myself a 1tb card for a total of 1.5tb. I guess I won't have to worry about storage anytime soon.

The design is great and the tinted white color is beautiful and flatters the device (I think Sony should offer all colors in every market it operates).
Although the design is very similar to the mk3, there are some nice and subtle changes here and there. It would have been great to see a frame like the one on the Pro-i, but perhaps it's reserved for the Pro line. The build quality is truly great!

Battery life is noticeably better. For comparison, the MK2 was better than MK1 but its battery performance was still only mediocre in my opinion. The MK3 was slightly worse (with 120hz) than MK2 and the MK4 is finally 'good' (with 120hz) and probably the best of all 4 generations.

On the face of it, apart from the new zoom and selfie, the camers remained unchanged. But in reality they had received various upgrades under the hood. All of the sensors have a broader ISO range (so I guess the carry over sensors from mk3 are at least an upgraded version).

In terms of speed the upgrade is very noticeable: all cameras support 20fps in stills and 120fps in video; it can be done even with HDR.
Moreover, in previous Xperias, photos shot in burst mode would lose considerably in terms of quality (Bitrate and basically how much info the file contains). In this respect, faster readout clearly has a positive impact on the quality of the photos. Now, instead of 1mb and sometimes even less, the mk4 produces bigger files with more detail and info.
Another thing is rolling shutter- mk3 had lots of it and in mk4 it's basically not there anymore.

Oh and they have improved the selfie cam considerably. This time it produces good results. It's of little importance to me, but clearly an important upgrade for many others.

And yet, not all is good.

At first it was overheating violently and the camera would last only a couple of shots before shutting down. The second issue was horrible focusing of the telephoto cam- the photos were 90% of the time unusable, not mediocre, truly unusable.

An update came in and has improved several issues. The overheating is not as bad and the camera lasts somewhat longer. Sony have partially addressed the focusing issue.

It still overheats quite fast when using the camera and focusing is still not that good. At the moment, the 1 III produces sharper images with its telephoto and it wasn't very sharp to begin with.

Some thoughts about the shortcomings.
I realize that not everything can be perfect right from the start, but I also think Sony shouldn't have released a phone with issues of this intensity. At first the overheating was unbelievable
After the update it's barely bearable. The same thing with the telephoto focusing. I mean, seriously Sony? This is unacceptable. I know some folks that have returned their unit due to one of these issues (or both) and I can understand.

With overheating it was a similar story with mk3 and it was improved to a somewhat acceptable level after several updates. I hope this will be the case with mk4 as well. Oh and I really want Sony to fix the focusing issue. Even though I have a real camera and I do some pro level work with it, I still like to shoot with my phone, but right now I can't*- the results are too disappointing.

*No, the other 2 cameras don't suffer from bad focusing and even though the issue was partially addressed, it still isn't good enough. For me, this ruins the camera experience as a whole.

And one last thing, from my research, it appears that mostly Asian units suffer from this focus issue- I see mk4 samples on the internet with crystal clear results (which adds to the frustration). What's more, since this issue was improved but not enough) in the recent update, it means that Sony are aware of it. So I don't really understand why some units in some markets perform well and badly in others.

Frustrating and disappointing. But I hope Sony will address these problems ASAP.

Agree with you the telephoto lenses need to improve. At least they changed the camera auto shut down to high temperature.

As for the heater processor think nothing can be changed much. Hoping the newer update from what Zackbuks version solve the telephoto sharpness issue.

The funny thing is that I see samples of the telephoto on the internet that are very good. So I don't get what's going on here...

As for heat, well I understand that it will always be a warm device, but it must toned down. Right now, you can use the camera for only a couple of shots till you start losing functions and shortly afterwards it still shuts down. It just lasts a little bit longer, but just a little.

Xperia 1iii was blazing hot at first, but eventually Sony did manage to find a much better sweet spot.
The bottom line is I realize that it will always be hot, but it has to be usable.

I was lucky to find a dual-sim iv for £780. I dread to think what the next Pro-i will cost. The original Pro-i is still very much out of my price range. I'd have to sell a kidney.
