Cinematography Pro “powered by CineAlta” newly supports 2K 120fps 10 bit
HDR cinematic high frame rate shooting[ix] and Cinematic 21:9 4K GDR
recording at 24/25/30/60fps [x],enhancing cinematographic shooting
experiences. Touch AF, Metered Manual controls for setting exposure, Level
meter and improved white balance settings offer more manual control,
while the unique Intelligent wind filter technology from Sony reduces noise
and wind interference for clear audio recording.

What is GDR ?

edit:oh they just write wrong

Xperias have always been good in burst mode even XZ2 does really good job with motion blur. Problem is you will never hear about it when reading online reviews cause no one does shooting tests in motion for various reasons.

Posted by Hawk12
It is very shocking.
It indeed seems fast as an Alpha.

Anyone know the difference between a ToF sensor and the iToF sensor found in the Xperia 1 II?

Posted by goldenface
Looks like it's adding up to be a beast of a phone and it's nice to see the harder, more serious design language reappear.

Guy from factory in Thailand confirmed that Xperia 1 mk2 has UFS 3.0

Trying to get info about DAC from him. Not sure would he know about that.

Posted by MyP910
How about wireless charging?

Posted by Hawk12
Look at other phones with ToF.
It looks like a regular camera.

ToF of Sony looks like a mix of "ToF + Laser AF."
It assists the dual pixel.
It is like we say the circle does the blur while square helps focus.
Go to the page and in the session of camera, click on number 3 to see the image.

I think I heard 15W Qi during press or hands-on.
I dont remember.

i wonder if this T* coating has scratch resistance properties because this is usually put onto a camera lens that is generally pretty protected. our phones are in our pockets and thrown around and treated much more roughly than a normal camera lens. if the T* coating can scratch easily then it'll be pretty useless and will cause those scratches to appear in pictures and video, essentially making the camera completely useless.

great idea, but I hope it is implemented correctly.

spec sheet also says 4K will have recording restrictions, though it doesn't say how much or if this is restricted based on storage availability... let's hope it's not due to whether or not it overheats!

all articles say it's UFS 2.1 .. this is obviously information directly from sony. only info we have against it is some guy who works at a factory?

I am curious what sony is doing with a US release phone. are they disabling the 5G antenna? Most US carriers are implementing mmWave 5G networks first, but some are also rolling out sub6 networks as well. I don't see why sony would handicap a phone with the ability built in.

price seems a bit expensive. haven't seen any bundles yet. anybody know of any?

€200

Posted by moogoo
they really jacked up the price this year... it's quite a different from the $950 USD last year.

seems a big excessive to me. it will be difficult for people to swallow even if they want to get a sony vs a samsung. that big price different is going to be a turn off.

iTOF is indirect ToF vs Tof which is usually Direct ToF.

just a different implementation.

"The direct measurement of the time delay between two adjacent pulses is called direct TOF (dTOF), while if the time delay is obtained starting from the phase delay of a periodic waveform we speak of indirect TOF (iTOF)"

EDIT:
there are so many fake videos on youtube already doing camera comparisons. lol.

Actually I have question for this product:

1. Does the Xperia 1 Mark II can change the display resolution on setting or it will be always 4K?
2. How much watt for USB Power Delivery for this phone? Is it still 18 watt or more?
3. Will Sony release higher watt for it is adapter in the future? Like 20 watt above.

Posted by MyP910
Thank you for the wireless charging....finally.

Posted by moogoo
myP910 - i know, right? been waiting for it!

@goldenface - are you gonna upgrade? i'm thinking yes, but man, this price is more than i was expecting..

Posted by Gitaroo
Been away since z5p, how is Sony picture compression algorithm these dates? Still have the same oil painting with tons of noises? Low light OK? What's the difference between this and pro? Kind of sucks that they don't have the 100MP camera option like s20 ultra.

Posted by goldenface
@moogoo Yeah, the price is a sticking point although the phone itself is gorgeous. I know that the compact version won't arrive for another six months at least (correct me anyone if I'm wrong) but, the spec sheet is right up there and i'm very tempted.

Posted by moogoo
gitaroo - why don't you look at some samples online from xperia 1? there are no samples to look at for this model yet. at least not from 3rd party reviewers, but sensors are larger and more alpha involvement so it should be improved.

pro has mmwave 5G support with 360 antenna and some additional hardware features for interfacing with cameras and such. otherwise, internals and display, and camera array are the same.

@goldenface - i am too. i'm not too interested in the compact so this is definitely tempting me. i just keep looking at that price. i wonder what it will be in the US and if making it 4G for US release is true. also, when will it even be available in the US. i hope there are some good bundles. i'll take some nice headphones.. that's like $300 right there. guess we have to wait for more information and some actual reviews.

^^

some of those youtube videos comparing with iphone and s20 ultra can't be real.

there's no way some nobody got their hands on one to take photos like that. the recombu guy said he wasn't even able to use the camera software cause it wasn't quite ready and he's the only one who's been on video with hands on.

also, the phandroid video doesn't give us anything new. those are all gallery photos from the sony website... :/

Many tech sites say 4G variant for USA, but sony website says 5G model.

Posted by McKinley
Man, it was ridiculous price before for the Xperia 1 and now it's beyond that.
The question is now whether to stick with the preorder of the Galaxy S20 Ultra or go back to the glorious Sony.
It is the first phone in many years from Sony I want so bad.

Posted by moogoo
@McKinley - maybe there will be a good bundle, which will make the price more reasonable.

still seeing a lot saying it is UFS 2.1 ...wonder what it really is.

@acsarris - yea i hear you. i am hestitant too! the only way i'm getting it right away is if there is a really irresistable bundle that makes the 1200 euro price easier to swallow. otherwise i will just wait until the price drops by the end of the summer or better yet, when the holidays roll around.

1200 euros is a tad too rich for my blood. I think I'll just buy a new laptop this year rather than a phone.

Perhaps once it drops to 800 euros or less, maybe I will get one. No phone is worth more than 1000 euros.

nice! can you also confirm if RAM is LPDDR5 or not?

Posted by moogoo
are we really gonna take the word of some "guy from factory"? maybe he was mistaken.

i wish sony would confirm.

was also looking into the 5G thing. if sony does indeed disable 5G for US release, i guess it's because none of the US bands are currently supported by it anyway. at least, as far as I can tell. it's difficult to find out which bands each of the US carriers actually supports.

all i can find is ATT will do 5G on 850mhz, which is not any of the bands supported.

I don't know about the factory guy, but given Alvin's track record, I believe when he says "confirmed"

Posted by moogoo
@racsony - Alvin is not archdragoon

Posted by Hawk12
Some people on reddit were discussing prices.
Someone pointed what Realme GM said.

For example, the combo 865/5G increases price by almost $90 compared to SD855.
Then you have one new exmor, bigger battery, ToF, the newer screen (I suppose it is not same), they have to create software that has Alpha stuff, faster storage of higher capacity, faster ram.

Xiaomi CEO said ddr5 costs 20% more than ddr4x. That 865/5G is about 2x the 855.

Sadly, this is reality. In few years, there wont be flagship from Samsung, Sony, LG, Google, Htc, OnePlus, Oppo and Huawei for less than €2000/$2000.

Archdragoon, my apology if I sounded offensive to you.

I just don't know much about your track record.

I think everyone here agree MVP leaker of this new Xperia is Alvin, although his pain in the ass hints caused us serious insomnia

Posted by moogoo
i think there are still a lot of questions, which happens every year with the new phones. for some reason, spec sheets don't include ALL the details we want to know and on top of that, there are usually a lot of mistakes. we'll know more as time goes on and people do reviews and tear downs.

i'm starting to rationalize the cost of this phone.. i have been in the market to start looking for a nice camera, but if this can cover 80% of my use cases, then it would save me money on a camera.

i'm looking forward to more in depth reviews to see how well that larger sensor works and how well all the autofocus software features works.

and now the long wait begins... no reviews for a couple months and nothing in our hands probably until end of may.

wonder when preorders will start...

Did you see an in depth review of it somewhere?

Posted by Hawk12
During the press I could see it has auto HDR mode in photo pro.

Well, soon the only advantage of cameras like rx100 will be true zoom.
Other cybershot are 1/2.3" 18MP , but with 24-700 mm lens.
At this FL, phones use so much digital zoom that photo is not even 1MP anymore.

Posted by RacSony
Xperia 1 II has 128GB version, 10 II with 64GB but seems only for Japan.

@moogoo

I think I'm in love with the purple version and I too am now seeing how to mitigate the cost.

If I sell my Xp5 and my Sony h.ear on 2 headphones then I could be persuaded with a good bundle from Sony.
