Sony Officially Unveils Its New Xperia XZ2 Compact And XZ2 Flagships: The Company's First With Screen 18:9

The most stupid is to make a phone with a curved back
and moving the fingerprint to the back from the best place on the side.
Sony, If in the US you can not use it ,make a phone for the US market and leave us the fingerprint on the side,
Headphones jack can be gone, use bluetooth only already 10 years,
But sorry this phone looks like an LG or other cheap Chinese phones,
why did it grow? the idea of thin bezels is to make a smaller phone,Ok it is 5" 18/9 but it is also 10mm longer than my Z3C and 6 mm than my XZ1C with its "huge" bezels... and only few years ago a 5 inch screen was XXL and not compact.
what a luck that my XZ1 compact is only 6 month old.
let's hope September announcements will fix some of this.

PT020 you've been on these boards for a very long time and an & Sony user.
You do recall used a curved back for a few years since the original Xperia X1 and the Xperia Arc/Arc S right? Worked then for better long term comfort in the hand and with a glass back less prone to slip out of your hands lest the drop break the glass. I'm not in favour of Sony yet again using a glass back to a phone, in fact I'm vehemently against it ... but that's the hand we're dealt for now. Like you said it's a long wait for Fall 2018 and you've only got a 6mth old phone perfectly working until then.

Cheers.

^^
I have never had one of those for the same reason.
when you put your phone on the table you can't use it.
My Sony Ericsson were all flat ... K750,W800i,P1i,W902,W995 and Sony Z1C,Z3C,XZ and XZ1C.

While, like yourself, I prefer flat back phones ... less smudging over rubbing on any surface and the edges fair better for my own grip (small hands) ... you're wrong on the phones you've posted having flat backs.

K750 has a huge camera shutter hump on the back that is not level with the rest of the back which still is slightly curved. (you've must've forgotten this, take a good look at the next pics or dig up your old K750)
W800i modelled after the K750 same thing.

That W995 was the ultimate evolution for the K750 and Walkman series ... but never came to North America. Would've been a perfect phone to modernize with Android, removing the sliding keyboard.

Both K750 and W800i had a bump but it was kind of flat

At that time phones were small and easy to hold in a hand
this days you've got a big phones you want to put it on the table and you can't.
And this is the compact ...
Just forgot one of my favorites ... had also (still have) the SE Xperia Mini Pro.

Sorry a bump is a bump: K750/W800i
Prior to then Ericsson made 2 phones: T28World and T36m both where VERY flat at the back, still easy to hold ... but the round large bump from the antenna made those two not sit flat either.

XZ1 Compact fine piece of kit I've been going over that thread ... I may just order one late this summer just before it's out of production (1yr timeline from release) has a secondary travel phone. As it stands Sony is the only one with a current tech compact smartphone with top shelf specs. Apple's iPhone SE is a year old now.

You are right very few smartphones are flat at the back now.
Samsung SGS 8 Rugged is flat I think,
iPhone 7/8/X are ... save for the camera bump yet it's small in comparison to many curves on the back of other phones. Subjective view of course.

I love bumps 😂

Can we get back to topic please?

Posted by pt020
I already tried to explain you that this kind of phones
you did not use on the table.
They were too little and non touch.
I'm going to have a new phone in September,
they better do something nice for me

sweet headphones ... will this sweeten the pot to change your mind and upgrade PT020? I'll have to check if XZ1C has this deal still.

Had a quick look at the XZ2 Compact and S9 together in my hand and I'm still baffled to why its so thick. Fair enough they have bezels for the speakers but I see no need for that kind of thickness. Also, the battery life is nothing compared to the XZ1 Compact which is a real shame, its one of the most appealing aspect of the Compact line. Yes you have a better screen but they should add a larger battery to compensate.

You're also forgetting the "less-than-top-shelf" CPU in the XZ1C that lends to it's better battery life. Also no IP68 rating on that device, which has always been a hallmark of Sony and SonyEricsson phones long before the industry even thought of making it a standard. thickness does help lend to less drops out of the hand when hardly paying attention (along with the raised edges).

It seems you are confusing XZ1 Compact with the older X Compact. XZ1 Compact has the Snapdragon 835 and is IP68 rated. But having exactly the same battery capacity as the regular XZ1, as well as a lower res (720p) and physically smaller display results in amazing battery life (probably the best in a Sony device to date).

You are correct. I was thinking about the X Compact ... that was the interim model between the Z5C and the XZ1 Compact. Design looked nice but just didn't bring the goods the fans and faithful really needed.

Got 6 month ago the MDR-1000X with the XZ1C ... But I still think the older MDR-1RBT have a better sound quality and are much more comfortable .. but no noise cancelling.
And the deal was only with pre-order (same for the XZ2C) ,but too late for the XZ1C .

Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact: The Best Compact Smartphone Android

https://youtu.be/BDZlXHtyVdo

Posted by AlvinZahranM
This phone has almost every greatness the XZ2 have. But the design.. dear lord, I can't get over at how bad this phone looks. The front looks good, but when I look it from the side and its rear, especially, looking very bad to me. The ambient flow design works well for XZ2 for me (since it has glass back, I thought the design of XZ2 is a step up from XZ1), but for a phone that has that type of design, it looks ugly, especially with that plastic back, a downgrade from XZ1 Compact's design (which has a great design).

Although, the performance of this phone and how it could cram those great things from XZ2 to this very small body, made the phone spectacular. Not my first choice but if I love small phones, I would buy this phone.

Just got mine
well ,
It's really better than I expected, specially the design , It look much better in real life.
The curvy back REALLY comfortable to hold , as I have Z5 compact with flat back, I noticed the difference.

Everything in this phone is good and high quality, specially the speakers , much louder than Z5c.

maybe the only 2 things hoped to be better :
1- the notification light, so small and not bright enough
2- the weight , not a big problem , but holding both Z5c and XZ2c , u can feel the weight, also I understand
hot hard to pack all these features and such small body , sure the weight will be more

one last thing, the size is not really can be considered as a COMPACT

OK smaller than the rest , but not compact.

I found another annoying thing

why the scene selection removed from Manual camera setting?

Posted by doministry
I was playing with this one in the shop the other day,
really great one!
I think of getting it (or XZ Premium).

Scenes have been deleted from Manual loooong time ago.

Where did all the XZ2 Compact's go ? Can't find one for love nor money. I would like to buy one from a reputable vendor, even if refurb-ed, but in excellent condition. Maybe somewhere in the world there are a few new ones sitting in their original boxes. To be honest, I'm not even sure how you choose a "reputable" vendor for such old phones.

This is desperation because I think i'm finally going to give up on waiting for a new Xperia Compact of some sort and cave. I'll probably buy a Pixel of some vintage to see if I can get used to a somewhat bigger phone. If not, an iPhone is the only alternative.
