From the site Eprice.

Question 7: Recently a number of mobile phone brands in the camera part of the function,
have joined the main camera OIS anti-shake function or dual lens design,
or camera interface can choose to shoot RAW files,
but these features are still not available Sony,
What are the considerations for not adding these features to Sony phones?

Answer:
Mu Shan: At present, many of his cards using dual-lens technology,
such as Huawei's Leica camera introduced a dual lens is to shoot high-quality photos,
or recently launched Samsung Note 8 with dual OIS different focal lengths The camera is equipped with a dual lens design,
it is necessary to shoot good-looking photos. But the Sony camera itself has MotionEye camera technology,
combined with the past G lens, BIONZ processor, ExmorRS high sensitivity components,
and even recently joined the laser focus and RGB-IR infrared focus function,
but also to help users shoot more Nice photo.
And in view of the needs of the OIS and the camera's own ability,
we can pull the ISO's ability to replace the optical anti-shake function,
at this stage Xperia mobile phone with MotionEye camera function has been able to provide good photo quality,
so I think at this stage will not want to be in the camera to join the OIS function.

Google translate.

Atleast they could improve image processing in their phones imo!

The result of increasing ISO instead of implement OIS is noisy photo.

Doesn't look good at all.

I'm waiting for XZ1 vs XZP camera comparison to see if there is any difference in terms of distortion.

Me too, It's look strange to me as it's already 4 day since the product launch and there's no sample photo from XZ1 yet.

When Android O got previewed last May, everyone exciting to see which manufacturer would first to launch with the 8 iteration software, this would bring heap of upgrade including hype of faster update OSes in the future aka Project Treble.

And guess what... Sony already did that with XZ1 and XZ1 Compact both are first of the gate

Suddenly, including me at first sight, keep whining about same old design old UI, bezel thing fuzz all over around.

Grass on other side, seem always greener. Quite sad story here.

The wavy distortion is still on XZ1!

Ive compared the pictures. Honestly, i see the distorition on XZ1 but i also see in Samsung too.
The only pic that is ridiculous for the XZ1 is the wall one. But the other ones are pretty much the same...

Yes, Exactly.

Another review:

https://translate.google.com.[....]smartphone-Sony--Recensione%2F

As expected, the distortion is there in close photos.
I dont think your gona make close photos every time. I dont know, I think I can live with that... But yeah, its kinda shame that sony has this problem...A fix should not be impossible...

Posted by Archdragoon
It look very ridiculous on this picture =...=

Posted by profyler
yeah, it kinda does...

Now that we know that there is distortion I think we are going to see it every time we make a damn photo.
I still pre order my XZ1C, but if the distrtion thing annoys me I'll simply ask for a refund

I find the size of XZ1 ridiculous when it is compared to v30.

The same size body but screen to body ration is ridiculous on XZ1. Sony is expecting XZ1 to sale well but I think they are looking at a flop. I maybe wrong but I've a feeling not a lot of people are going to pick this up over v30, note 8, pixel xl2 and iphones.

Well the bezel of XZ1 is ridiculous. Anyway if there's something to praise XZ1 then it would be the display quality.

Look at the color ! It's so great!

Unfortunately V30's camera and audio(via headphone) beat the XZ1 anyway.

The review is actually quite good this time round, I think they now understand the true quality of the handset in terms of the hardware and software. The could've moaned about the bezels but they had many positives for the 'outdated' design. Battery test was pretty great. I think the ZX1 Compact will get huge praise from them.

Regarding the LG, I guarantee that XZ1 beats it in all areas. Sony has the best video capture with the EIS, great natural colours in daytime photos with loads of detail but only lacking in low light. Speaker quality, battery, speed etc. all better with the Sony.

*Except audio quality through headphone. Xperia lack dedicated DAC, Headphone amp.

Posted by badassmam
Is it even noticeable if you mess about with the equaliser or use a premium set of headphones?

Posted by profyler
V30 should be better in low light. Its not what happened. V30 got bashed by the Verge analises in low light conditions, but I'll wait for the v30 review too.

Audio power has always been lacked in sony devices dont know why. But quality is there. I think LDAC & DSEE HX pretty much gives a good quality for audio enthusiast, thou a DAC would be surely awsome. I dont know why they took it away since the Z3 came.

Well when I compare LG V20 to my XZ I notice the lack of Deep Bass and the impact on the XZ.

I never turn on equalizer because I want to hear the most natural sound, character and the performance of the player.

Yes. I use MDR-1A Limited Edition and ATH-WS1100 with high quality cable. They're good enough to make me hear the difference between each player.

Have a chance to play with the XZ1 today. And I am amazed. I thought that it would be like a XZs, but in fact, its not. It is so much thinner than XZ/XZs that XZ1 just feels natural in my hands. Seriously considering trading this with my XZP.

Posted by hboy857
Oh, better post processing is a wonderful thing. Despite the same camera hardware XZ1 image processing is much better than XZP and other previous sony flagships.

https://www.androidcentral.com/sony-xperia-xz1-camera

There are still lot of works to do but hopefully they are taking the post processing much more seriously to challenge the camera leaders. Felling good.

Is the camera distortion that annoying? can you share some linear picture ?
thanks

Posted by Archdragoon
Hmm... it's difficult to reduce the distortion. Yes it's quite annoying for me.

Androidcentral review-
https://www.androidcentral.com/sony-xperia-xz1

Pros:
-Unique design
-Great build quality
- Very good battery life
-Clean software
-excellent performance
-Dual speakers
-Headphone jack
-Sony's best camera in several generations to the point that where you wonder what the heck it was thinking on previous phones

Cons:
-Average screen quality (compared to Samsung and even HTC)
-Poor screen to body ratio
-Camera quality doesn't match price/lags behind the best (S8,U11, Pixel)
- Expensive for what you get
- No fingerprint sensor in the U.S.

"The Xperia XZ1 really does live up to flagship standards. This might come off the wrong way, but the thing is, we anticipated a lot more "growing pains" associated with the Android 8 integration. Sony's mobile division deserves plenty of praise for getting things right on the first try. Some of the benchmark scores might be a bit behind the Snpadragon 835 competition, but margins are small and the real-life performance is as snappy as we've come to expect."

no problem mate. I'll get my tomorow probably. Im so worried abou the distortion thing. I like to take pictures of buildings and stuff, speacially now that im on vacation in europe.

Well lets see...I dont know how to feel... I hope sony doesnt ignore us on that issue.

Lady and gentleman... Now I'm happy to say that camera of XZ1 is such a failure !

Doesn't worth the money at all.

welcome to the fail lens club

They have to replace your unit!
It's definitely faulty!

Unfortunately they will not replace my unit and they will give me false information.

They keep say it is characteristics of wide angles camera which is not true.

Posted by Archdragoon
another funny respond from them

Posted by badassmam
That would be heartbreaking to read after splashing out £500+ from a company that makes cameras. Guess I won't be buying from them until they change the sensor on their high end phones.

Posted by profyler
Yep.
I think everyone should stay away from the wide lens on Sony, until they put a new lens on it, because Im sure the imx400 is actually a great sensor.

Strange. Never had this issue with my XZ.
