Hi all due to some of the gremlins still in the system (and how little time I had) this isn't how I originally wanted this year's rumors thread to look. As soon I can I'll put it correct and just ask you all to be a little patient.

Thanks all, Xperiajunkie

Here are the images of the Xperia E4 it's said to rock a 5" qHD display (540x960) have a MediaTEK SoC, a 5 MP rear camera and what looks like very slim bezels for a low end device. Not bad looking at all

Congrats to xperiajunkie for making the new thread and May we have a new juicy and even juicer xperia rumor thread of 2015!
insiders, could you welcome the new 2015 rumor thread with a new juicy info?

Congratulations XperiaJunkie ! Wish you good luck for this year's thread

Posted by Xajel
Congratulations @XperiaJunkie, I hope you good luck in 2015 rumours

I think the main conflicting news regarding the Z4 series is wether it will have 805 or 810... and will all the versions will have QHD screens or only the US version will have this screen ( International = FHD )

Other spec. beside the SoC and RAM seems to be settled.

I still hope for 64GB now instead of 32GB... Sony is already late moving up from 16GB and they moved to 32GB when others started to move to 64GB

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Thanks everyone for the good luck messages.

Esato was founded in the year 2001 and was mainly targeted at Sony Ericsson mobile phone users. We started with a couple of services offering free ringtones, grayscale logos for the Ericsson T39 and R520 models. We have expanded the service to include free color backgrounds for over 50 mobile phone models. Other popular services are the discussion forum for anyone interested in topics about mobile phones and accessories. Even if the focus was targeted at Sony Ericsson owners, we now have separate forums for owners of other brands. The most popular sections are the News, Blog, discussion forum, Free themes, free color backgrounds and a service where users can upload images from a PC and download a converted image down to their mobile phone.

^ design is always subjective, for example I find the Galaxy S series design boring and stale while others may say the same about the Xperia Z series. Performance wise the majority of people that would potentially buy the E4 are mostly interested in looks and value for money and probably don't care if the SoC isn't 64bit ready or worry about viewing angles.

It's one thing to say an ugly design has become stale, and another to say a good looking design has become stale. I'd say Galaxy S series has become stale because of the cheap plastic feel, rounded edges, and the not so pleasant looks. Xperia's Omnibalance design might have become stale too, but at least it's got good looks to it.

Moto G has already got Snapdragon 400 SoC, it's only logical to go for its successor in order to give Moto G a fair competition.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Did Google actually make any money off the Moto G? If not Lenovo will struggle that bit more and makes you wonder if they can keep selling them for almost no profit if that is the case. Google's bank account could take such a hit but not sure about Lenovo and certainly not Sony as that is a fight they can't won't want to get involved in.

If true then only the flagship is moving from the six-month cycle, which is just one device in the whole of their portfolio - just to put keep things in perspective.

All other devices are on 12 months.

Z1C - Z3C - Z5C ?
Tablet Z - Z2 Tablet
Z Ultra - ?
Z3 Tablet Compact - Z5 Tablet Compact?

If they're going to focus more on high end devices, does this mean more bulking up of the the Z series? Or will the T Series see be reintroduced?

24-month cycle

Posted by Ricky D
I think the 'no more 6 month cycle' quote is a reference to the lead handset of the series only and the numbering follows that of the lead handset.

ie.
We'll see in 1H2015:
Z4 (~5.2")
Z4 Tablet (~10.1")

Then in 2H2015
Z4 Compact (~4.7")
Z4 Tablet Compact (~8")
no lead handset (previously we might have expected Z5)

Not sure when they'll fit in a 6+ incher if at all. I feel Sony are probably biding their time with it, not wanting to release something that isn't spectacular and when the timing is right (in relation to the Note, Nexus and iPhone Plus).

So all n all the main differences are that we won't see a numeric incrementation twice a year and accordingly we won't see a 'flagship' I think they are hoping the Compact line can carry the flag.

This also cuts out the weird numbering and missed numbers for other series.

Skipping the 6 month cycle will only make sense if they release a proper flagship. Snapdragon 810 is a must, but I don't think 2k screen is. There has been zero hype for that.

how the SD810 is changing smartphones

A little quote from the link above
I was told that phone manufacturers and developers have had their hands on the processor for some time and that they're hard at work integrating the 810 into the phones of tomorrow. Could we see it in the Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC One M9, LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z4? Hopefully. Time will tell, but with our peek at the future, we're ready for mid 2015 to arrive.

Does this almost confirm the Z4 range will have the SD810 ? Lets hope so.

PS anyone spot the Sony TV remote in last image for Skylanders. It doubt it means anything just curious as to why it would be there.

There is no coincidence in advertising. It might be as little as name dropping though.

Why skylanders on 4k ? There are better games who look much better.

We don't know, that was just a coverage news of what the 810 is capable of, but we don't know if it will be used or not, the same happened before with Tegra 2 + 3, all the hiss and promising news vanished duo to high power usage which made it un attractive for smartphone makers.

If 810 is bad like a heater or power hungry, then it will have very limited design wins unless they managed to fix them in time, or such products will be delayed a little to the mid year...

Personally I'm fine with the delay to mid year for Z4 if it will get 810, as it will give the Z3 enough time to sell more, plus it will mean the real start of 9-12 months cycle of the flag ship.

BTW, @moderators... I think it's time to unstick the 2014 thread and make this 2015 sticky

Presenting a device doesn't mean releasing it. samsung could showcase the s6 at ces atleast the exynos version and release the device sometime later say march.

BTW: first posting on 2015 "edition". Good luck XJ!

How big is chance to see Z4 Compact in Barcelona 2015 ???
[ This Message was edited by: on 2014-12-15 16:31 ]

Posted by amirprog
@red98
0% chance.
sony's strategy for 2015 is already leaked:
mwc: z4 and z4 tablet
ifa: z4 compact and z4 tablet compact
z4 ultra: unknown at this point.
any site news that tell you different are basing their words on wishful thinking.

Posted by Velexas
@amirprog, the thing is: why would SONY stop launching "the best of SONY" in every screen size at the same time? If Z4 is not launched simultaneously with Z4c, for the consumer the Z3c will not be the best of SONY in a "compact device" - there is a Z4!

Z3 compact is too problematic smartphone for me with lots of cons.

So, what we see in Barcelona 2015 with 4,3" - 4,6" display ???

Posted by JohnnyNr.5
@red a bunch of mini "flagship" devices with medicore specs. Xiaomi is rumoured to reveal a relatively well specd 4.6" device. And maybe a galaxy alpha successor. Time will tell

Posted by amirprog
@Velexas
If you read the credible sources info then you can understand the compact will be announced once a year. also the main flag will start be announced once a year from z4. the best compact of sony will be z3 compact also after z4 released because they are different devices. just an example, when samsung release a new galaxy s the galaxy note is not inferior to galaxy s because its intended for different consumers. the compact is the best of sony until a new compact will be announced. nobody who wants a compact phone should care about z4.

just look at Z3. suicidal move if you ask me considering project 0 from samsung. I'm almost sure it will look like plastic POS again, but whatever, the hype is there and Sony needs hype.

xiaomi has to survive loads of patent suits first

Posted by Hilmawan
For me the omnibalance design on Z3 is pretty close to perfection and I have some ideas to make it better.
1. Replace the back cover with metal and use the 4
nylon corners as an external antenna.
They also can make a hole on the back for NFC contact point or other connectivity and cover it with tempered glass or high quality plastic.
2. Same design as No. 1 but with removable back cover like Nokia 515 and removable battery.

But if Sony stop using omnibalance design I hope
they will use the arc design.
Because not only arc design will make their phone
look unique and different or even iconic but also will
make the phone more comfortable to use in any position.

Posted by Gitaroo
they should keep omni and merge with arch design, so every part of the phone is proportional, but I can't imagine if they do a Z4 ultra, Arch might looks odd. Also they back will probably be plastic again.

Posted by bronxdude
I would say explore the Xperia NXT design language. The S, P, U - that one is one of the best. Form the LED strip to the fit in the hands.

Add more colors like blue and red.
