Now this is good. Pleasantly surprised about the processor.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Is it MSM8974AB or MSM8974AC? Tablet Z2 has AC according to official specs shown. I would have thought they would both have the same?
EDIT: Sony website says AB for both but in the announcement they were both stated to have the 801 (AC).

whats so surprising about the new processor? If it has to carry the name Z2, is pretty has to have everything better, even if its only marginally better. S801 is pretty much the only option available for them.

Excuse me what is this shit? :< Has Sony became Apple, releasing same phone again, same design and a few minor upgrades that could actually made it to Z1 with no problem at all. Most dissapointing thing is the same camera sensor that wasn't too good on Z1...
So let's sum up... Z2 over Z1
- 3GB RAM vs 2GB RAM , that's nice
- Snapdragon 801 vs Snapdragon 800, probably won't even feel the difference.
- 5,2" vs 5" , nice
- Upgraded 3.5mm jack with noise cancelling
- Stereo speakers
- 4K video, Z1 could probably do that too...
- Some new sensors like barometer etc.
This phone should have been called Z1S. Sony will be crushed by competition with this, the only advantage they had, IP58 waterproof, will also make it to the Samsung Galaxy S5... Making the Z2 look like a younger brother -.-

Oh FFS!! That just killed my vibe! I just saw this on PhoneArena and was all excited, genuinely impressed by the specs, but if the ROM is 16GB then I'm out :/
It's stunning though, and for once their 1st half flagship has a brand new CPU, and the very best hardware plus 4K video, well done Sony, I hope they release a 32GB variant.
That's the Xperia Z1 dead, this is really what it was meant to be.

A couple of questions about the noise cancellation in this phone..
1) Does it work with any earphones or headphones or only with the bundled earphones provided in the package?
2) Just got myself a Sony MDR 10RNC, so what is the effect going to be when coupled with this phone??

I think some people need their attention drawn to:
Expansion slot: microSD™ card, up to 64 GB

Well of course, but why couldnt they at least provide 32GB internal storage? The cost of additional 16GB is about 2$ for manufacturer, is it really worth it leaving at only 16?

Android no longer allows installing apps to SD, Samsung remain the only OEM who have "fixed" that in their phones, but in other OEM phones such as the Z2 you only have the 16GB to install apps, games, download files to etc... And with games getting larger, you'll install 2-3 good games, some apps, and then have to keep an eye on memory. I hate what Google have done to Android, we now have the most powerful phones, yet memory has been made a problem area.

True especially since SanDisk announced MicroSD 128GB Class 10 XC today as well
Tsegz, false. Google doesn't allow installing in MicroSD but AOSP builds do considering Nokia has it on the X,X+XL

Prices in UK/Europe is always higher...
Price in Germany is 599 Euro, cheaper than the launch price of Z1 ( 649 Euro )
And It might have a 599 price tag, in Euros and USD depending on the market... $600 is good price actually...

What I'm talking about is Google's version of Android where they have put these limits.
You can go ahead and load up a 128MicroSDXC, but you will still run into memory issues with just 16GB internal, especially if you do a lot of Gaming, Instagram, Vine etc...you'll be shocked at how much data social network apps, and games store in your phone. When I formatted my phone yesterday I checked in File Manager to see what I must backup to SD, found a ton of my Instagram Videos, WhatsApp pics+vids, Vine vids etc... Thankfully I have 32GB internal so I didn't run out of memory, still had +18GB left, but you can see how this can become an issue overtime with just 16GB internal.
Anyway, great job by Sony in everything else, looking forward to seeing how the Snapdragon 801 performs against the 800.

From XperiaBlog
"Like what you’re seeing with the newly announced Sony Xperia Z2 (C650X)? Well it is not going to come cheap. Sony Mobile has updated the official pricing for its new flagship for Europe and it shows some divergent pricing. In the UK, the Xperia Z2 will set you back £599, whilst in Germany it will be €599 – for some reason there is no difference despite different currencies.
In most other regions in Europe (France, Italy and Spain), the Xperia Z2 will set you back €699. In the Netherlands, you can pick one up for €649, whilst in Sweden it will be SEK 5,995. Sony always price their flagships high, but hopefully it will be at a more respectable level shortly after launch. "

JEEZ LIKE!
Converting every single one of those to the South African Rand (ZAR) gave me a higher figure than what I paid for my GS4 on launchday. Hopefully that price drops very quickly, and I hope other flagships don't follow in this sort of pricing, not nearly as bad as how Nokia used to price the Nokia E90 and some other flagships back in its heyday.

But the Rand is very weak right now.
The launch price seems fine to me. Will probably drop down to 500 euro in a month or so (in sweden at least). The Verge has a great video showing the Z2 (and vlad seems really excited for a change)

yeah, the official sony case looks gorgeous and gives REAL protection AND can be used as a stand AND with dock station and with the sony logo on the front it looks premium. would be nice if they offer different leather materials to choose from.

Indeed it is. I was converting to when it was stronger, so multiplied the Euro by 12 and Pound by 14, I'd hate to do a direct conversion to now, I'm sure the price would be at around R9,500-R10,000.

It's http://www.sonymobile.com/glo[....]xperia-z2/specifications/#tabs
MMS8974AB - S800 but it's like 30GFLOPS faster than the first gen S800 so, it's still a beast

There's still some confusion regarding the SoC...
The press release mentions the chipset as Snapdragon 801, while the whitepaper mentions AB, the clockspeed makes it AB not AC...
AnandTech.com says that 801 should be AC not AB, is there's a possibility that 801 has two versions ?

I checked the pre order page for Xperia Z2 aaaand it says that the box will contain...
- Z2 (obvious)
- Screen Protector (Separated from the Phone )
- Xperia Transfer EC310 (The cable you can use to transfer files from other phones to an Xperia One)
- EP880 (the normal USB charger)
- MDRNC31EM (the earphones with Noise Cancelling feature)
- another USB cable
Except for the fact that they still do not give a magnetic connector included this are all good news

not sure if its actually better, still ton's of noise, but file size being bigger is a good sign of compression artifact being reduced.
