Read some articles today on CB forum, and it says that BB guys are trying to make BB10 rom for android phones, together with enabling google play store for BB10 OS.
Would be interesting to have dual boot android and bb10, what do you think?

Posted by hihihans
I kind of forgot about BB when choosing a new phone.
Won't dual boot on a phone be a bit of overkill?

well actually bb10 is very good OS, i have bb z10, and since i came from android to it i was pleasantly surprised with the quality, both of the phone and OS.
Anyway if bb rom comes for free, than woohoo andro guys can rejoice with 1 more OS to pick

Completely unsubstantiated rumour ... as in pulled out of someone's arse!

1. BB10 already has an Android runtime and it's now available for download (Android 4.3) within BlackBerryWorld app store.
^ this runs 95% of applications if not more within the entire android space
2. QNX is a microkernel it runs each application, hardware API calls, and networking stacks as individual instances separate from one another and any other operation running or can be run on the device used running this kernel! This means if your networking for WiFi crashes, the device & OS can STILL continue a download seamlessly using HSPA/LTE/GPRS/EDGE without missing a BEAT. OSX, Windows 2008/2012 Servers, nor Windows 7/8, iOS or Android (any version of either) can do this!! If the WiFi stack crashes on these other OS' the kernel will not be able to run the cellular data stack, actually the 10-BaseT/100-BaseT or 1000-BASET also fails ... that is Ethernet for all you younger kids

3. QNX is also part of BB's NOC server stack now and is also apart of their M2M business initiatives ... going to Android is completely stupid even as a dual boot.

There is no win not even in perception for potential users to even buy a BB device running BB10 & Android OS as a dual boot! Why do I buy a BB device which will most likely cost more than an equally spec'd Android device (think growing markets for say the Q5 vs Samsung ACE II) or lesser spec'd BB Z30 vs SGS 4 when I can get either to do Android properly?!

Golden rule with rumours as horrible as this (not even CrackBerry picked this up, largest BB supporting forum & news site) ....

"IF it don't make dollars, it don't make sense" !!

Supa_Fly i respect your technical knowledge, but it seems you miss understood my post completely.
I wasn't reffering of BB going dual boot, and I also think its not going to happen (or soon enough anyway). BUT at the other hand, making BB10 available for loading on Android phones as ROM, is in my opinion excellent marketing idea of promoting OS itself, without actually selling phones. Now you'll ask me, whats the point in this? Well, did you check sale numbers lately? BB10 devices are not in "sales peak" right now, if you know what i mean and BB guys need everything they can do to promote OS itself, since hardware wise they cannot compete with samsung, apple or M$ right now.
About running android apps on bb10, yeah they work, but have you ever tried to watch a movie on some sideloaded android player? Battery runs out, like in 2 hours

Hmm. An interesting idea.

However ... BlackBerry sells a solution ... both the hardware (OS) and the NOC back end provisioning is a security solution. Without the hardware ... it's not done too well. Yes they do have Secure Space running on iOS and Android ... but only specific Android phones that support 3DES and AES (not going to get into which is more secure because neither has ever been cracked ... that's an entirely new thread discussion).

The sales numbers ... 3.1 million in Q2 2014 (yes their 1 fiscal year ahead of the calendar year) ... is precisely WHY they should NOT offer the OS without the hardware. Nobody is buying it in massive droves ... so why would you or anyone else go through the trouble of loading a ROM, only to find the same limitations of apps available for it? Then uninstall it and reload the Cygenomod Android or manufacturer's OS for say your SGS4, Note 2/3 or HTC One etc?! That alone going 1 way to BB10 ROM would take you more than an Hour ... then another hour to add 3 email accounts, get contacts sync'd, SMS/MMS, pictures and music or other media running, then apps with their core data (eBook Reader with pdf/pub books, playlists, videos, etc etc). Now going back the other way would also take about 1.5hrs doing this ALL oVER again.

Not to mention the high probability danger of loosing your data permanently! Not fun, for anyone!!

Plus BlackBerry would have to spend about 5 million plus and new developers R&D to get such a solution to work and setup ... then the marketing and then figure out the costs that they could market this ... if no cost then the return on investment to offering this for free! They've already let go som 7500 employees ... vs Nokia's 45'000 under Elop's watch! They'd need to rehire a LOT of ppl who are not looking back!

You have to think of these issues ideals etc when hearing a rumor that is not substantiated on various popular fan blogs/sites.

Moreover ... BlackBerry has a different business model:
QNX makes the OS and the M2M business,
BlackBerry has huge amounts of patents that are still VERY lucrative and useful even with today's mobile climate dispite these so called mobile analysts on Bloomberg or Reuters ... because NON of them have really mentioned nor researched into M2M because it's not a "buzz word" or "household" name many commoners of non-techy world understand.
NOC - infrastructure for BES and M2M (you'll need to research this heavily if you're unsure what this is ... then what BlacKBerry is pushing that relates to their business. If you have a cellular provider that offers home security ... that's just a nipple of what M2M business is and how far reaching it'll be in the next 5yrs).
Provider partnerships ... ever wonder how the providers are STILL offering BB10 devices regardless of the lackluster sales? Partnerships!

Management change again ... we'll see how this 3rd run goes but I don't see it as something positive given Chen's incentive payout structure!

We'll see what happens ... I could be VERY VERY wrong ... and I still think BB should've outsourced hardware manufacturing to LG/Samsung/or some OEM but we'll see.

This is very useful information shared here. I am really thankful for this.
