^ actually the image quality of this image is very average... Will have to wait for more, full res pics.

What's more interesting is this so called 3x loseless zoom, there are no details of it, makes me wonder if that's just crappy marketing -.-

So no 4K UHD or a 32GB variant??? :/

Pretty phone as usual by Sony, everything else? Meh. Looking forward to the camera samples, considering the hype that was created in the Rumours Thread here I'm expecting its camera to wipe the floor with EVERYTHING available except Nokia's 808 PureView, I'd be very disappointed if the camera is on par or a bit better than GS4 I9500 and LG G2, it should destroy them.

the wait to find out the price in the US is killing me. I can't see myself spending $900 for a phone, even one i love as much as this.

I hope it's a more reasonable $750 or less.

I can't wait to watch hands on and comparison vids

Posted by my ninja
same price every year... $500+ give or take a hundred..

Pixel binning, ISO till 6400, 3X clear image zoom.... Super longing for the original updated photo samples~

Posted by moogoo
@ninja - you're kidding right? Z was $650 when it was finally available.. and that was MONTHS later. with a global launch same month, i'd guess $750ish.. it's at $900USD equivalent in germany and the UK..

i hope you're right though. cause that would be a STEAL. if i lived in europe, i would import it from the states and save so much money.

Calm down, no need to freak out. It should be around $750 for a phone like this. The only reason price are that high in Germany is because of VAT. Currently import price based on clove is around $735 USD.

no global shutter, and no 24/192 audio profile.. interesting. also of note, Hi-Res Audio isnt mentioned in the WPaper.. no h.265 support either.

@moog, i never saw the Z at the price, the most i saw was for $600.. eventually it was $550+ the ZL was even cheaper of course.

no global shutter is disappointing but not a deal breaker.

i'm not too familiar with audio profile/tech so i can't comment.

and if the price is $700 or less.. $500 even.. i'll be beaming with joy.

Posted by MNX1024
@my_ninja
Z did launch at $650 in the US, but price dropped below $600 real quick, think it was actually within first week.

This guy got a lot of sample photos, any photo enthusiasts here to judge?

Sony Xperia Z1 - first look

Posted by moogoo
it says its not the final firmware, so there's no point judging samples that aren't from the retail device now that it's announced. just give it more time and we'll be sure to see plenty of reviews/hands on with the FINAL device.

Posted by itsjustJOH
I know, but that should be pretty close to final firmware.

Kinda disappointed,

Small sensor.
No OIS.
Also, 16GB... 16GB, Sony!?

Are you sure that pixel binning is like Nokia's PureView? And not just resizing?

You're complaining about sensor size and lack of stabilization, and you don't know what a global shutter is?!?!?!

For an early firmware and mobile-review, these photos are pretty good. Looking forward for a good looking 6400 ISO photo as Sony claimed

Thanks for the link!

That looks pretty good actually, slight overprocessing, grain/strange colours on the faces and aliasing(look at the guy's glasses frame in the below pic) but overall pretty damn good.

@MNX1024, you know, instead of typing all that out, you could've just told me.

Crazy guys from O2 used the Z1 to drive a car!

Driving a car with the Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone

Posted by moogoo
GEORGE the pic you linked isn't the right one, but it's still pretty damn impressive. have to remember, you can't compare the photos to a dedicated compact camera or SLR. you have to compare it to other leading android smart phones.

with that in mind, it should and probably will, blow everything away.

Posted by G3ORGE
Thank you moogoo, corrected.

Yes, it is pretty impressive. I'm interested in comparisons with Galaxy S4 and others. Especially low light.

All I am interested in is the screen, is it good this time?! The verge said it was shit as usual

Posted by moogoo
motvikt.. got a link? and do they have screen comparisons or did they just rely on their eye?

EDIT: PhoneArena is reporting a 32gb variant? hmmmm.. but the whitepaper says 16gb.. so maybe PA is wrong as usual.

(...) "the new Xperia Z1 doesn't have a terribly impressive display. The problem is that Sony consistently opts for cheaper LCDs than its mobile competition, which shows in the limited viewing angles and washed-out colors on its handsets."

the verge is retarded like always.

Posted by miromiromi
i think it's just the wallpaper. the wallpaper really looks washed out but if you start digging into the different functions, things look significantly better.

they have to really change that awful wallpaper. if it's just a photo they're using, the display really stands out.

that stupid verge writer does not even understand how triluminos displays work. it'd be stupid for sony to use quantum dots on cheap displays. he's just judging based on his impression of the wallpaper. that's why sony's also at fault. why on earth are they still using that awful wallpaper?

Posted by moogoo
verge is obviously stupid. they're even saying the Z Ultra's screen isn't impressive while EVERYONE else praises it greatly. how can that be? answer = verge is stupid

So do we have an exact date of when the Z1 will be available

16th September apparently from Clove.co.uk, 3 are selling it from 24th September.

Posted by angryman
I wouldn't trust the verge on giving any accurate or positive opinions on a non Apple product, they say that the colours of the Z1 are washed out like other Sony Handsets... the Z no doubt has bad viewing angles but saying that the colours are washed out is ridiculous.
With that said, the few hands on videos that i've seen on the Z1 have shown that the screen's viewing angles aren't that great. If that is the case, it's very disappointing and I'll wait until Sony does better in that aspect.

Sony Xperia Z1 vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. LG G2 : HD video screen TEST

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VXFuMXu-SQ

Posted by itsjustJOH
It's Z1 or G2, video too small to judge. But definitely S4 sucked.

Posted by moogoo
it's hard to tell from that distance.

S4 is a definitely 3rd place. G2 and Z1 have similar colors. but detail and clarity can't be judged from a distance.

at this stage in the game though, basically any premium smartphone is gonna have a very good screen.

any photo sample yet?
