Posted by Karun
The XL does not have a glass front and back like Yuga. Only plastic. But build quality is pretty good I guess. I like the fact that it has a great front and it's compact. A thicker body is better..less chances that it'll slip from your hands

But I guess I'll try out both and then buy the one that feels the best!

Posted by goldenface
Are there any advantages this phone has over the Z? I sort of like the front of this phone better.

Camera shutter, notification light, smaller.

And ZL will be cheaper?

Xperia Z has camera shutter. Not sure about notification light, but I hope it's also there.

Are you living in a cave?

Z doesn't have any camera button. And that's a bummer.
As for light - Z probably has something similar to T..

ZL though has a nice light stripe.

I think doministry is right, but you guys forgot the main difference... Z is water resistant, ZL is not.

Edit: oops, just realized you were talking about ZL advantages and not just differences haha

I think the ZL will be more comfortable to hold.

Honestly? I don't give a sh...t about it.
I don't buy a smarphone to swim with it, you know.
I care about the features...

But yes, that's proably the biggest difference between Z and ZL.

WOAH!! Wickend.
- if there is an aftermarket solution that can make this IP5/7 for dust and water resistant and guaranteed full retail price of the phone if it fails without backing out of that warranty by said vendor a LOT of people will do this with the ZL.

I'm in Canada so the ZL will not be released where I live (probably in the USA as well) so the Z is suited to my tastes, yet I still must have that camera shutter button; unless volume keys can be used.

What gives ... why no camera shutter button? Volume keys are there so there is no reason for no shutter key is there!?

EDIT: Guarulhos, this ZL, like the Z does allow 1080P video recording on the front camera - or should.

ZL has 1700 band! I wonder if it will be released through US Tmobile?

I will sell my Nexus 4 for this.

I was thrilled to see that. Its capable of US LTE too, only if Tmobile release their LTE by now.

Tmobile may release LTE soon, in 3 to 4 months, when iPhones are out on Tmobile.

If Tmobile does release this phone, please hurry, before Tmobile stops its subsidiaries on contracted phones (also in 3 to 4 months).

The ZL has a sealed 2,370 mAh unit, which is a tad bigger than the one in the Z, Xperia Z uses a 2330 mAh battery pack.

If the ZL has a larger battery, why is the talk time rated at 10h compared to 11h on Z?

Posted by rycexboi
Got to check out both phones today, a quick impression is
Xperia z - looks more premium over the zl
-Feels like holding a larger iPhone 5 because no curvature on the front and back.
-finger print magnet

Xperia zl - thin bezel
-noticeably heavier than the z
-The curve back makes it easier to hold in hand
- black has a rough shape pattern
-White is regular plastic and feels like the one on my Xperia t.

Overall I like the zl more, beside the weight. I compared it to my Xperia t and the dimensions was not much of a difference.

which LTE bands will TMO use?

"T-Mobile is accomplishing this by re-farming its spectrum, a project it has been working on since early 2012. The company has historically operated GSM/EDGE service in the 1900MHz band. It offers HSPA+ in the 1700MHz AWS band. T-Mobile has been systematically replacing the GSM/EDGE service with GSM/HSPA+ in the 1900MHz band, which makes room in its 1700MHz spectrum for LTE. It has been moving its HSPA+ service to the 1900MHz band all year and already has several dozen markets ready for LTE."

1700MHz is Band 4 same as AT&T. ZL will support T-Mobile and AT&T LTE bands while Z will not.

Does ATT LTE work with just 1700 Band alone or would you need the Band 17 at 700mhz as well to work?

Some markets might use band 4 1700/2100MHz and some might use band 17 700MHz.
Band 4 uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz.

It all depends on what band is used in the area you live at. Nationally AT&T uses both bands.

Why in this day and age do we care about IRDA (Infrared) technology?! Its like VGA still being added to PC's ... makes no sense to continue with this horrible standard YET we keep having it on products so it never dies ... adding bulk and almost outdated if not confirmed already outdated technology.

He means IR Blaster

And as close as I seen it in action is someone showing the Remote app. That's pretty much it, doesnt seem like they showed it off at all compared to the Z's IP rating.

What? Horrible standard? It's still being used in practically all TV's for what, 40 years now? They never managed to invent anything better than that, I'd say it's a genius technology to last so long...

Z and ZL are using Dragintrail glass but Sony does not disclose who the suppliers.
