I think this is possibly the best looking of the new phones. A nice price and this should sell.

Posted by Bonovox
What is the price??

Posted by jplacson
I'm guessing this will come in at around $250-300. I love the throwback to the arc design of the T and J models!

@bono
Xell posted this in the rumours thread:
Xperia T 549 €
V 579 €
J 239 €,
Tablet S 399 €

He usually posts the German RRP. UK generally has lower RRP's then Germany, no? And obviously the market prices will be lower than RRP

I have noticed that the J is SONYs first phone which has a GORILLA GLASS!!!
From the Whitepaper: Scratch-resistant: Yes - Gorilla glass

I'm a little bit shocked and surprised! Why get the J a gorilla-glass and the big ones not?

Gorilla Glass isn't really better than what you get in the V/T/TX. There are hundreds of instances of Galaxy S3/One X gorilla glass 2 screen getting cracked, but you don't hear such complaints about the Xperia range even though they do not have Gorilla Glass.

Posted by king-james
I think that's true, but gorilla-glass feels better in using IMO. But I can't follow why they spent this glass for J instead standard mineral-glass... My thoughts are that SONY perhaps use gorilla-glass in future...

Can't wait to buy one of the new Arc-Series.

Here's a long video preview of the Xperia J, but in French. Didn't understand a thing, but at least it shows how well the device performs. He starts interacting with the phone at 8:43, so you might want to skip there.

Why did they put S1 in J huh?
You mean they couldn't have put the same processor as U?
I'm sure it would have made a big difference.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes true it is a real shame as I was interested in it

Posted by AkuKL
It is a real shame they did not put in at least dual core Cortex-A5 SoC but still, this phone meet my use case quite nicely.

Cant understand why Sony didnt use u8500 in all their low-mid end. The difference in price between that and this sucky qualcomm chip must be like a dollar or something. Stupid decision, they could have ruled the low-end too

Posted by Bonovox
Yes,considering the price of the Xperia U now too. Sony would have made a good seller if they had put at least a better even single core chip in this or same as the U. The J is clearly a nicer device than the U with bigger screen,SD card slot, bigger battery but that is all it has going for it which is a shame as I really might have got the J for £169 I recently seen.

What's really interesting about the review is that they praised the screen of the Xperia J. It seems that the real Sony phones would have better screens than those designed under SE (V and J are Ericsson-less designed Sony transition phones).

Anyway, would have been much better if it had the U8500.

Posted by Bonovox
Well,I seen the screen in store and it is nice. Not as bright as say the Xperia S for instance but good for the price point.

This review says they never experienced any lag. So maybe the one in the shop or other review was bad early software??

I have experienced no lag in my use case too.

Maybe shop and review models had bad early firmware

GSM Arena review

It says

Unfortunately if you use it to browse more than half an hour in one session, it will crash due to insufficient RAM. That's the price you pay for the dated hardware. You can always switch to Google's Chrome though, which seemed to be more stable on our Xperia J unit.

They are just BS. This phone never crash while browsing.
It only starting to crash (rarely) after I update my opera mini to the latest version. Other browser is just fine.

User of Xperia J with JB reporting in. So far only intermittent issue with battery usage where "Mediaserver" suck battery at idle state (screen off) as much as when you are online using HSDPA connection and even use up battery power more than the screen. This will continue until I reboot the phone.
