Sony has announced the 3.2 inch Xperia Tipo and 3.5 inch Xperia Miro. Two entry-level smartphones running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Xperia got its name from giving users the 'experience'. I wonder what kind of experience users will have with a single core 800mhz processor on ICS which was designed optimally for dual core processors with 1GB of RAM where in late 2012 applications get more and more demanding. I'm proud of myself for resisting the overwhelming urge to curse...

Guys it's not crap as long as it is priced right, it will sell, why did samsung release the galaxy Y? so those who don't have enough money to buy those mid to high end can still buy themselves an android phone and at least play some of those free and basic games that do run on android apart from making calls, text and browsing the net.
maybe in your country where people can afford better phones it's pointless to buy this, but in other poorer countries this is just right. If priced similar to Galaxy Y this will be better instead of the samsung, and I think this is more for students rather than people already working and earning money.
Although I agree with bono that sony definitely needs a new flagship.

Of course these phones will sell, not only in poorer regions, but here aswell, especially the Dual sim version of the Tipo could be interesting to many people. Samsungs Gios, Y's and other cheap droids are doing well, they also have limited hardware and these Sony's are way better looking.
Not everybody wants an expensive phone, some can't afford it, others are simply not interested in spending much money on a phone.

What is the price range of these two?
Posted by razec
While the RAM is decent given the small screen size, the CPU clock is unacceptable! and GPU as well!

@razec
the galaxy Ace has same specs CPU, GPU and screen size but with lower ram. But it runs smooth and decent enough (at least in my experience using it), Although I'm not sure how much of a difference ICS will slow Tipo or Miro down. I think the deciding factor for this will still be the price if it is good or not. It has an inferior camera than Galaxy Ace (except Miro), but has a much larger internal memory and RAM than the Ace, and Ace was a midrange phone back then when it was released. This seems to be low end Android from sony.
EDIT: actually the Miro is the sony equivalent of the galaxy ace spec wise.

When compared with a Samsung, that is. But what about internal competition? Xperia Mini is the biggest problem, it's got superior specs hands down, and is priced lower than any of the two. Imho if Sony decided to phase the Mini out to give way for this, It'll be a very stupid move.
Posted by reeflotz
well I forgot about the Mini

Posted by razec
^^ and yes, that "large" internal flash memory is the sole reason why it's ridiculously priced. and because of that Sony can't even afford to use the superior yesteryear's SoC as it will increase the development cost

Where is the new mini? Come on Sony!!

Now available for pre order priced at £126, which is a bargain IMO. Normally, they would leave out some essential features which would be infuriating but this has AF for the camera, which is a 5MP effort, and a whole lot more.

Surprisingly tipo is pretty smooth and looks better in hand than on the pics! Sony gives the best value at low-mid range phones. I hope i can say the same for their high end ones.

Seen a Miro too its a quality handset for £130

Tipo performance numbers are way better than its competitors

Yes Sony done well with their budget offerings.

Why did you buy the Miro, bonovox ? I mean you have the U already which is about the same size.

Posted by Bonovox
Money is a bit tight right now and my U had many issued including a faulty vibrate. But ICS is 100% better in this than GB in the U. Plus wanted SD slot again

Yea I noticed how smooth it is in your video review, almost seems as smooth as my S.

You should get a T soon Bono

Ooh yeah tempting I really love Sony UI and design etc plus quality. And yes it is smooth and was shocked to see how fast web pages load. Even Face Book is normally laggy on Android but not on this. Not even with live wallpaper. Only lag I notice is when first booted up. Call quality battery life signal all great. Sony done well with budget range but I wouldn't bother with the Tipo. Sony have somehow really optimised this cheap phone with ICS and made it perform well. Camera good too except video recording. Music too is great.

Yea no doubt. All of them shots are brilliant for the price

Bono, which one has the better camera - U or Miro ?

[ This Message was edited by: randomuser on 2012-09-28 16:21 ]

About the same quality I'd say. Maybe same camera in both?? But yes their 5 meg cameras seem to do a decent job. The Xperia Go has similar quality too so I read. These shots are Birmingham city centre part of it anyway

Review here but Phone Arena talk out their backsides. They say the browser is laggy but it is no way laggy at all. It's fast loading & smooth to scroll pinch & zoom

Frankly, I've stopped caring about IphoneArena

Posted by Bonovox
Yes all they ever do is compare everything else to iPhone and moan about viewing angles. I can honestly say the browser is fine and speedy.

You tried Temple run on it, Bono ?

Posted by Bonovox
No never played that game even before. Am not a gaming person and not good at them either but will have a go and report. I have heard it's a tester game for all phones. Only thing I hate it soft keys don't light up

Posted by randomuser
Oh no

That's a bummer. Would be not so convenient in darkness

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah slightly annoying but still like this phone it's decent for the price and just a likeable phone.
