Let me just start this thread eventhough I don't own one. Just curious about its performance as higher processing power should mean less photo compression and therefore better quality than its 1ghz twin, so lets get the ball (and analysis) rolling shall we

Should do a comparison cos GSM Arena said the Arc S camera was slightly worse than Arc

Some from my new Arc S

And some comparison shots between X10 and Arc S

What do you guys think?

Posted by Bonovox
Amazing shots of the city at night Mode. From what I can see there is Arc S has warmer colours than X10. The Arc S though has more noise.

Posted by mode
@Bono
Thanks mate Surprisingly, Night Landscape on X10 produces brighter (and lesser noise) pics than Arc S. But if you have shaky hands, you will benefit from Arc S more which means, after weighing the pros and cons, Arc S just has no advantage over X10

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah,the file sizes in alot of the new Xperia cameras seem to be smaller. And that makes the camera faster too. It's a shame. Lets hope the new Sony venture will produce better cameras. I noticed too the x10 photos are brighter too. There seems to be much less detail in all the new Xperia cameras but I found the Ray to be the best one but it has a poor flash. But saying all this it's still not bad for a phone.

Nice pictures
the Arc S looks like the white balance is on cloudy

Posted by argiriano
I`m surprised that Arc S doesn`t get higher ISO. Do you set two cameras at the same settings?

I don`t believe I could say this but from what I see I chose X10 pictures every time. Arc S has more details, but it`s not enough... X10 pics have much better colors and right exposure values.

Posted by Bonovox
The x10 seems to have more realistic colours the Arc S is more yellow ish tint to colours almost overly warm. But it's still decent.

Comparison test

Posted by admad
Good comparision, it's sad how SE failed compared to iPhone since they use the same sensor...

Posted by Haribolman
I find it strange how people are preferring the X10 photos (and I own an X10). I much prefer the Arc photos. To me they look MUCH better!

f¤¤¤¤ng hell. thats great night quality

Posted by mode
@argiriano
Yes, both sets are with same setting, Night Scene, it's funny how for Arc S, using this setting would darken the photo while X10 gets brighter. If on Auto Scene, Arc S gets brighter (with intolerable noise) while X10 gets darker

@silverstein
I've already made X10 my dedicated camera and it was so good that it was the only camera I brought for my 2-week Swiss holiday with the family and the result is fantastic!

@admad
That's correct, SE has always supported great hardware with bad programming. ALWAYS. I actually thought Apple would regret implementing the Exmor-R in their iPhone4s looking at Arc's quality. Now I know how wrong I was. I guess 4s has the advantage of a dual core processor to be able to minimise photo compression for fine detai without compromising speed. The rest of the algorithm seems to be typical of Apple, popular and it works!

@haribolman
One thing I noticed about Arc S is that it is for those who want to just point and shoot without bothering to tinker with the settings. So I guess in that sense Arc is better than X10. But when you know how to get results with X10, it flies! If only SE had implemented Xenon on top of X10's quality sensor, it would definitely be SE's most complete and best cameraphone to date

@Plank
Thanks. I know what you mean, it is sharp and nice to look at

More samples.

Might post some full crops soon. Just wondering, do any of you guys who own Arc/Arc S experience lens blur on the left/bottom left of your photos? Mine does and it's freakin' annoying. Check out the lady in photo no. 8 and you'll see what I mean If it's a defect unique to my unit then I'd like a replacement
Umm... how do I rotate the vertical photos anyway?

one thing is for sure. arc s have more realistic night quality then x10.

blackness & grey tones is far better........and so on.

Colours are over saturated bit too unrealistic though

One question...
Arc S

X10

Was the pool green or blue in real life..?

Posted by Bonovox
Second blue one looks more real.

Nice motives but is there a lens issue with the Arc S ? Pictures are somewhat blurred in the lower left corner

Posted by mode
@rikken
I purposely posted that photo to demonstrate how annoying the lens distortion can be Never had this problem with X10 before it was clear, sharp and detailed evenly throughout an image

Posted by rikken
I found my x10 to produce better images than my Arc Don`t understand this decrease in quality

Posted by HxH
Still way too much picture compression for my taste, anyway it quite reasonable when see it as overall picture not a full size.

Posted by mode
@rikken
Exactly! Stupid SE implemented such an excellent sensor in the X10 only to cripple it with photo light and didn't even consider implementing it on any other models. X10 has the most understated camera ever, with a performance only next to N8 I believe, I can only imagine if it had Xenon. Its implementation was pure perfection. I can't believe I'm saying this in the Arc S thread
@HxH
Yes, it's decent when not viewed in full crop. But in its defence I get sharper pictures with less tries than X10, especially for night scene. It's great for shaky hands. It seems that night scene photos turn out darker and warmer as a measure to reduce noise. I think they should lengthen the shutter speed to 1s to achieve what X10 can achieve, brighter, lesser noise and more accurate night photos

maybe the swimming pool have green lamps under the water who turns on at night, (anyway, some kind of lamps is used

.........arc s looks more as a real camera shot.

@mode,what were the truer colours you could see with your eyes when taking the same photo with both phones?? Which was the more realistic colours?? I still hate the horrible compression on new Xperia's

Posted by plankgatan
man, check this night pics above...........arc S smash x10 into pieces in lowlight

look at every small (blue) windows on the sky-scraps....you actually see them on the arc s..........On x10 they looks washed out.

anyway.........i think X10 is better in daylight.....awesome i must say.

Posted by Bonovox
It is but Exmor produces more image noise from what I see in many photos

Posted by plankgatan
what can you say sharpness a`la X10

man, you have the Ray..........its a perfect phone. (not to big, (best size of a screen) good camera, etc)

saw your pic.........awesome colours and sharpness.....i would keep it.

[ This Message was edited by: plankgatan on 2011-11-14 20:59 ]

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah x10 was excellent!! And the Ray was a surprise to me with a decent camera. But I chose the Samsung Galaxy S 2 which has excellent camera.

Posted by masseur
yeah... I think we all know that by now by the number of times you post this fact...

... but don't feel too bad about choosing 2nd best in the camera department (according to the site you frequently link to )

Posted by Bonovox
Ah,well a review is a matter of opinion does not mean fact

Posted by masseur
I agree ... and yet you frequently post links to facts and reviews from that site...

I can even quote you on Esato as saying "Fantastic gsmarena review! love that site."

or is that only true when it suits?

Posted by Bonovox
No not at all. I think they are a good review site but I don't agree with all they say. It's like I read What Mobile magazine & they have different reviewers in each review. And I don't agree with all of them. Not when it suits me.

Posted by mode
An interesting (and alarming) observation

It seems that the blur on the left/bottom left of the picture is definitely a defect of some kind because look at the lady in the bikini in the first picture. I focused to the centre of the screen and I got the typically blurred left corner image.

But when I touch focused at the lady, the subject now appeared sharp but the rest of the image is seriously blurred

Lens defect or bad programming? And how come Arc doesn't suffer from the same issue while SE claims the EISA best cameraphone is awarded jointly to Arc and Arc S. Are they using different sensors as there's no other plausible explanation?

Very frustrating

Posted by Bonovox
I had that problem in the HTC Desire HD but software update corrected it. But I also had a defective x10 once which had a blurry lens & once swapped it was fine. But yeah I can see that.

i would stick with Sony design and features any day.

Millions apparently according to sales figures

Posted by plankgatan
yeh but look at Samsung design, its hideous boring.

second, they should name them self copycat Apple,,,,fits better

Posted by rikken
Copycat Apple ???? LOL Samsung Phones

Posted by plankgatan
Samsung phones looks absolute 100% ultra boring. (just a big screen and thats it)

same shit-design phone after phone after phone........

i mean compare Xperia family(Ray, Arc, Active, etc, to Samsung plain crap)
what more can i say

Posted by Bonovox
Plank most Xperia phones have a similar look too. Samsung have made the GS2 & others with more than just what you say is a plain design. Have you even looked at features or the camera samples by davidsic?? Much more detail & clarity than Arc S. Can the Arc S do a night shot like the GS2 the one I took with minimal noise & accurate colours??

... which might carry some weight if you were an expert reviewer, but I think the brief amount of time you had with each (from my readings here), you were fairly hasty in general for dismissing each

still, it seems you have ended up with one device that I chose and recommended months ago so its not all bad

anyway, I'm just posting to say... lets get back to photo's now please
