It looks like it will be available only in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam...
Also, no EQ in the specifications or dedicated player buttons...
Looks like an ordinary X8 with different cover, orange theme and orange music player.
And Android 2.1 in the middle of 2011 is just so up-to date.

Moreover it's releasing with android 2.1.

Posted by smclion102
Sad its just Remake Of X8.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
LMAO, are SE serious!!?? Releasing a phone on 2.1 in the middle of 2011? This is a joke, unless they are planning to release Froyo for it, in that case that would potentialy also be good news for X8 AND X10mini/Pro users.

Posted by Shino03
Don't tell me that the "copy and paste strategy" of is back.

Posted by smclion102
Same Specs,Design and OS Everything is the same. ...

WTF ???

Posted by Phoner
@smclion102: Why are you dissapointed? It's the same phone, only after almost half a year it looks even less competitive on the market...

Posted by doministry
It's probably a product for only few markets, revamped.
I don't see a great deal here.

Android 2.1 (Eclair), 600 Mhz And Only 168 Mb Ram...
This Device is a Real Steal!
An Android in Expectancy Walkman, To Receive An Apparatus Low End! It's Bullshit of The Great!
Sony Ericsson Finally Terrible!

Posted by S4k1s
What's the problem guys?

If want's to take a piss on the brand, let it do it

Posted by Bonovox
I really love the x8 especially the white one. But come on knock us all out with a top device like w995 but with Android

Posted by jsrjr_gua_br
The X8 is Good Dear Bonovox In Targeting in Which he proposes to Be, Or Be, Low End!
Now ... Sony Ericsson Specialist Innovations Are They In Terms of Design, Hardware or Software, we present an apparatus Low End Like the First Android Walkman is a great disservice to fans of Mark!
In An Age of: Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation, HTC Evo 3D, LG Optimus 2x, LG Optimus 3D e Motorola Atrix ...
A launching device so limited and lag behind in terms of hardware and software, is a real shot in the foot!
Unfortunately for me, the W8 will be another failure of Sales Out Once Nipo Swedish So How Xperia X1, Xperia X2, Satio and Vivaz !
I sincerely hope that the Prime Cybershot Android, Do not Be A More Just How Low End was the first Walkman Android!

Posted by Luhccas-U1a
The line doesn't need to be the music flagship for nowadays.
A shot in the foot is make all the portfolio a high-end paradise.
Some people don't need gimmicks like bubbles.
I've heard months ago that the X10 mini would be a failure of sales too...
And guess what?

are aiming on Xperia family.
Low-end devices are just a choice for who can't pay more than 200$ on a device.
And a low-end with good music features and low price is really a shot, but not on the foot.
Maybe "bulls eye",like the X10 Mini.
But,it's just for selected markets, nothing to care here...

Ps.: Nice to see your love about Sony Ericsson here Jr.
Problem with your photos?
Maybe duplicated votes?

Luchass

Its not about flagship, it doesnt have to have the best specs, its the fact that SE think we're stupid enough to believe this is any different from the X8, they could have ATLEAST put some Music keys ,through in a unique Walkman player with EQ, TrackID and FM Radio within the plamxerand packaged it with in-ear headphones, doubt that would have affected price much, and whats with them throwing it in with 2.1???

Posted by goldenface
A phone to cover the low end of the portfolio. Cheap to adapt from the X8 but at least they should have introduced dedicated music buttons and may be the lossless FLAC format.

Posted by Bonovox
The music player quality in the x8 is excellent anyway we don't need a to make it better

Posted by Phoner
EQ would not hurt...

Posted by Bonovox
Yes,an EQ is not too much trouble surely??

Posted by mode
This is such an anticlimax. At the end of the day people who buy them are those who can't afford top dollar phones but expect them to run like one, and those curses and swears will come flying again. To put it plainly, they probably think people in those regions are both poor and stupid

the real walkman phone atm is w995 with aino acoustic driver and i must say that i certainly agree with mode.....

Posted by arcmhyke
I think can't sell this above X8 current price in the Market

here in the Philippines X8 cost around $175(Php7,500)

right now, i don't see any difference except for the branding and new colors

but if this one have a Sound Chip + Walkman Player + Equalizer + Higher SDCard included(4~8g) + Better Loudspeaker than X8 then this will separate it from X8

Let me see... K750 and 800

Except that these are entry level

Posted by Bonovox
The last three Walkman phones were all budget too. Zylo,Spiro and that rubbish cheap touch screen one they made that was not Android. I know they need to cater for budget that's fine. But don't Sony Ericsson think they may need to compete with say the likes of Apple with a top music device?? Or do they not think their loyal fans want a top of the range music device?? This is just an x8 with a Walkman badge on it nothing else.

Posted by roanmy
It seems that a lot of people are forgetting that most people buy cheap phones like this, not Arc, X10, Desire etc...
Also, this phone is intended mostly for markets that are relatively poor, so if it's cheap, it's still a pretty good deal for a lot of people.

No, the problem we have with this phone is that it is branded without having any features.

The device is a real steal... and aiming at the Walkman series
Great device and the Best part is Android technology....

Posted by Phoner
You must be joking...

Posted by arcmhyke
Don't you think that Sony Walkman Dept. is all behind all this and is not SE at all? that SE is just implementing what they have presented, and can't do anything but to agree?

If they really want to make Walkman they should have atleast set a Standard that they will be Unique
>Special Sound Enhancing Chip
>Stereo Loud Speakers
>Sophisticated Acoustic Earphones
>Dedicated Walkman Player
>Equalizer
>Higher Capacity Micro SD card

and not just branding an existing mobile

the way i look at it w8 is not a walkman phone, it's just a re-cosmetic of x8 hiding behind the walkman branding. i doubt any user will experience the true walkman features and later on will be disappointed and start complaining but again it's a personal preferences.....

Posted by 10123
Its a disgrace.

They have everything they need to create a top of the range Walkman phone, but have chosen to ruin the brand (further) by slapping it on every low end phone imaginable.

The Sony Walkman line is discontinued and their is no reference to the Walkman sub-brand on the Sony Walkman website anymore (Crazzzy if you ask me), so I don't see why they cant use the Technology used in the Sony X series Walkman.

I would much rather have seen the Neo branded as a Walkman phone with all these musical wizadry in the X series Walkman's included.

SE is targetting the many countries in Asia experiencing a GDP growth 5-7x that of the US or Europe. This means that many families are moving up (though economic disparity is still great). Majority of these families have been Nokia users for many years - it's a foothold in a potentially big market who may be buying higher end phones soon.

Also we have to remember that this is a region where prepaid predominates, postpaid is a tiny minority in comparison so people here tend to pay more for their phones. Unlocked phones are much desired to the point that even people with subsidized postpaid phones often jailbreak them.

I have to agree but why buy W8 if X8 is already available and probably cheaper. It doesn't make sense to me.

Posted by boy.in.PINK
Really looks like a carbon copy of X8. They should release this instead of X8 and Yendo IMO. But it doesn't matter how I hate this, it will still surely sell in the target markets basically because of the branding. That means, fooling us, the citizens of the emerging markets which was targeted by the product, and it's kinda insulting. But then, nice move . Hope it won't fail like what happened to X8, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro.

I just hope that the application will be cracked then ported to other phones.

Posted by Bonovox
But doing this releasing a phone with the same features as the x8 in a new phone with another badge on it is embarrassing for And to me they are not competing hard enough in the budget segment compared to other manufacturers. If you look at HTC budget Android devices for instance. They all feature a decent camera of at least 5 meg with flash & AF. They also have better specs inside yet at a decent price. This imo is shameful for They are great in the mid to high end but budget offerings are terrible lately

Yes, it feels shameful for to do a carbon copy of X8. And yes, maybe the copied a better phone like X10 Mini. But the thing is, they should come up with better specs and design than copying a previously released phone (feels like reincarnation of the K750>W800; K550>W610 times).

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah,it's like a sloppy lazy way to release a new phone

Posted by noah09
Is there any release date for W8????????

Posted by Bonovox
Not sure but in all honesty you might aswell just go buy the x8. I think the x8 is a decent device its just releasing one the same is silly.

Wow,it beats the Motorola Droid Thing is I love the design of the x8 & especially the white one & it's a decent performing phone for the price(currently £79 in Phones4U) It has a nice screen & decent features if a little laggy sometimes. But the Walkman version is just money wasted imo by I wish the x8 had that music player widget though

On the contrary, it's easy money. Since it's same phone as X8 I doubt they have spent much money at all on this one.
