Bootloader unlocking for new Xperia phones available in “upcoming weeks”
Now that the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY phones are released, some will now turn attention to custom ROMs and getting the bootloader unlocked. In SE’s original announcement, no timeline was given, however developer Karl-Johan Dahlström followed up in the comments section recently and said that they hope to have the bootloader site “up and running in the upcoming weeks.”
The website will be used to unlock the bootloader by retrieving an unlock bootloader key once you’ve entered the IMEI number of your handset. This key will then be used in Fastboot where the actual unlock sequence will be performed. SE is promising more detailed instructions later and we’ll keep you posted once it’s up and running.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo delayed to Q3, Arc and Play facing limited supply due to Japanese quake
There hasn't been much good news coming out of Japan lately and this sadly keeps up with the unhappy trend. Sony Ericsson has officially bumped the broad launch (it's already available in limited quantities) of its Xperia Neo handset to at least July, explaining the delay as the result of "supply chain disruptions." Additionally, the Xperia Arc and Play devices, two other members of the company's new Android Gingerbread family, will be available in smaller volume than expected, at least for the near term. We guess that might go some way to explaining why the Xperia Play failed to reach some UK carriers in time for its April 1st launch date. Skip past the break for a statement from Sony Ericsson, who promises to be more explicit about the situation when it delivers its latest quarterly results on April 19th.
As Sony Ericsson continues to assess the impact of the situation in Japan on its business, we have communicated to our operator customers and distributors that some volume of Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY and Xperia neo phones has been affected. Xperia neo has already been introduced to the marketplace in limited quantities. However, due to supply chain disruptions resulting from the situation in Japan, we have shifted the timing of Xperianeo's broader launch and it is now planned for early Q3.
We will address this topic at the time of our Q1 financial results announcement call that is scheduled for April 19, 2011.

Xperia PLAY Becomes Gameloft’s Best Performing Android Platform
While the Xperia PLAY did suffer various launch problems, from a “freight issue” to a mobile provider pulling out from the launch due to bugs, the platform’s biggest publisher, Gameloft, has announced that the phone is “already a top device” in terms of game sales, beating out tough competition from other Android phones.
In an extensive interview with PlayStation LifeStyle, Julian Stocker, Managing Director for Gameloft revealed:
From what we’ve seen already over this weekend – the sales are very good.
In the very first weekend its already a top device for us in terms of number of games being sold, which is pretty amazing actually, because that means it must have sold in a reasonable number already over the weekend.
He added that the launch difficulties don’t seem to have harmed the sales:
Looking at the sales we’ve seen, I don’t think there’s any problem; it has actually overtaken pretty much all the other Android devices already.

Received my white Xperia Play yesterday with Virgin Mobile (France)
The build quality is good, the slider very good, the back cover is better than the Arc one.
I had 4 preloaded games :star battalion, sims 3, bruce lee and fifa 2010, downloaded asphalt 6 for free.
On the phone, there is also Syphon filter.
As for the already mentionned brightness point:
I am keeping the phone on max brightness, and what is good is that it seems SE made it on purpose: the screen does use very little battery compared to the Arc.
The screen is very crisp (even more than ARC, most probably because of the 0.2 inch smaller diagonal.
Played many games on it, some are really cool.
I tried also some of the arcade emulators, wow great memories. Games look great.
I hate the four hardware button config, you never click the button you need...
Have been using launcher pro (on my Arc I use the SE home) for its landscape view!

my son got his from vodafone today and he's well pleased.
He had trouble downloading the update to one of the preloaded games but after doing a phone firmware update that solved itself.
he's now an android fan having had Nokias for the last few years (N95, N95 8gb, 5800, and now N8).
Also, its the first
in the family for about 3 years too!

O2 UK gives update on Xperia PLAY testing; close to launch
O2 are the exclusive provider of the sexy white version in the UK so this delay had many people annoyed.
They have just provided an update on the testing process and said that they have received some new software from Sony Ericsson that “has fixed a lot of the bugs that would have stopped our customers having a great experience when they use the PLAY.” The most important thing is that it is “nearly ready to go on sale”. There’s still no release date yet, but they are promising an update “very soon”.

Vodafone tried to rip my son off saying he didn't have a data plan, only 900 mins and unlimited texts, so we had to spend half an hour convincing them that the order confirmation email showed 750mb data/month and even the online product sales page for the Play still showed the same deal when ordering!

thats what I said to my son. No networks sells a smart phone without a data plan these days.
he was good though.. very calm and dealt with it himself though I was standing by to jump in at the slighest hesiation on their side as this sort of nonesense from the networks just angers me.
I must say that the short time he's given me with the play has left a good impression, despite me not being much of a game player. I think
can be fairly proud of this one despite early issues holding back the white version @ o2, which was his first choice.

Yes,the only game I play is Angry Birds but I do like some sports games like racing or football. The Play would be nice to own as a all in one device that does everything. I was let down by the Arc I am awaiting the Xperia Pro now. All these new Xperia phones are Xciting

They must be crackers if they think they can sell a smartphone with no data plan. It'd be like trying to sell a new car with no engine.

Oh Dear masseur well you sorted it out atleast!
I have 300mins unlim texts and 500mb data on my plan £17.25 and £20.25 after VAT.
I don't use anything too much but lately the data is just going down so quick ive got 92% outta 100% till Midnight sat!
what VF told me was if you go over you get 500mb added for a fiver tut...
whats the point of that when im nearly at the end of my allowance and beginning new month!
darm VF need to up that Data why are they so behind
BTW I came across a Sony PSP at work Saturday its was the one before they changed it into the Go,
it reminded me of this phone cos of the plasticy look.

Some reviewers have complained that the screen brightness on the Play is too low. Yet I seen a working one in Carphone on a Xperia stand & it looked good to me. I upped the brightness on it

Just received my white dock
Feels solid and heavy. It comes with a charger and a jack cable (male/male)
When you plug the Xperia Play to it, it automatically launches the "Clock" application.
Very pleased with it!

What's strange though is that although the screen it's not as bright as the X10 it's the same trans-reflective one.
I'm currently sat out in the sun and can read the screen perfectly.
