im after a car head unit that will work with the satio
preferably in this order of brand - alpine > pioneer > sony (though it doesnt matter)
and that it has built in bluetooth (not 'bluetooth ready' as it need a transceiver then)
plus it comes with a front facing usb too.

any recommendations are fine too

im looking at max_wedge to answer this lol, seems to reply to my questions alot these days
or even >500 as you two are both in australia, but it dont matter where your from
thanks and lataz all.

Alpine are definitely one of the better head unit makers!

If you want A2DP as well (stereo bluetooth) Sony is your only option.

Alpine will only work for phone calls. I personally have an Alpine bluetooth (built-in) unit. Has all the ports I need!

I've got a Sony BT3600U. It does A2DP and handles voice calls. Good headunit but the units built in mic is behine the removable front pannel and picks up the heater blower noise, road noise as well as your voice. Kida sounds like your in a fishbowl on the revieveng end of the call. I believe the Sony 5xxx series have an external mic which would be better. I've also seen some JVC headunits which support music streaming and also have an external mic for calling starting from £179.99 which i'm considering as i've had the Sony one for nearly 2 years now.

Most BT Car Stereo's these days do both A2DP as well as handsfree. I personally have a JVC unit, which works flawlessly and has worked with all phones I've thrown at it including but not limited to SE W910, C905, N95 8GB, Samsung i8910 and Satio and even the dirt cheap Telstra F156.

However the ergonomics of the JVC are woeful, and for that reason the next unit I buy probably won't be JVC.

I wouldn't be too concerned with A2DP compatibility. Most head units should work fine. That said, if you go into a store such as JB HiFi or WOW or whoever you have down there, I don't see why they won't let you test pair your phone to one of their display units - I did so with the JVC.

I have this problem with the JVC also. I highly recommend anyone wishing to use bt handsfree via their car stereo look at an option with an external mike.

I like the look of this Sony, this Alpine and this JVC

My priorites for a head unit would be Bluetooth A2DP and Front USB, and 2 or 3 RCA outputs for expandablity. Sony and Alpine are my favourite Car Audio brands.

Are you installing it yourself or getting it professionally done?

Stickys don't just happen. You'll need to make a request to Masseur and provide some good reasons such as popularity or important/useful information. If you could detail the installation and provide a review then you'd be well on your way. I have two stickys - my 2008 Esato Award winning phone review and my info for NZ visitors thread.
