Hi, I'm looking to get a spare BST-33 battery and have noticed some extremely cheap ones via google from places such as Amazon etc and was wondering if these could at all be fakes?

Hi Toney, would you post a link or two?... it would help us better to answer your question...

Sure, heres what I mean by cheap unlike your 20 or 30 else where

if its a market place seller at Amazon, such as in your link, then I'd be suspicious at that price

if its Amazon that are actually selling then I'd be perfectly happy

I notice on the Satio battery that actually comes with the phone it's 1000mAh but with all these cheap ones it's 900mAh.

Posted by masseur
BST-33 were originally 900mAh and its not the first time SE have used the same model number battery with a different capacity... If I remember correctly the BST-30 came in 850mAh and 900mAh capacities

I think the old K800 and K810 used the lower capacity. So these are all different batteries? or can they be used inside different handsets?

I still have the K800 and K810 boxed away.

Well, its like masseur said, however, seeing its a marketplace seller, and the price, i think its safe to assume they're fake...

there's no harm using a higher capacity battery in a phone that originally came with a lesser capacity as long as the battery is the same size with the connectors in the same place (i.e. its compatible)

the phone will still drain the battery at the same rate and so the phone will simply last longer with the higher capacity

the problems come with cheaper after market batteries that perhaps don't have the proper circuit protection for over voltage (over charging) or under voltage (draining the battery below its ability to accept a charge)

Strange, even the BST-33 listed on the Sony Ericsson website as being the spare battery for the Satio is 900mAh and the one that is in the handset is 1000mAh

I have also developed a new battery for the satio

Just to add. My C901 comes with a BST-33 battery and that is 950mAh. How many different ones are there ????

Posted by glorfingal
just popped the back off my w705 .... BST-33, 1000mAh !!

Posted by hgautam
P990 came with BST-33 @ 930/50mAh and it can easily fit P1's BST-40 @ 1120 mAh... Can't Satio use P1's BST-40 battery???

Posted by petrutms
in theory... it can... dont know if it fits satio... but connectors are in same position i think, and voltage is the same.

A few websites claim to sell the 1000mAh BST-33 although the photo they put with it are of a lower capacity battery. If there not the 1000mAh then you can pick up a 800 or 900mAh very cheap but it's the 1000mAh I want.

If anyone see's where you can buy a 1000mAh BST-33 from please put it up here.

saw this today on ebay, BST-37 with 1800 mAh original in my W800 was 900, 2x as much

Wouldn't even buy non genuine.

I've found an easy solution, I opened the box of an old but in pristine condition K810 and it has a BST-33 950mAh inside The BST-33 thats sold on the Sony Ericsson E-store is only 900mAh. I'll use that as a spare in my CBC-100 case, the K810i lives on!

Are you trying the 950mah battery in the Satio?

Yes, the BST-33 Sony Ericsson sell on their E-Store as a spare for the Satio is 900mAh so the 950mAh is actually better as it has more capacity.

The Satio should be using a 1000 mAh battery (but you knew that). I'd advise against using a lower rated battery, even a 950mAh.

The phone will be pulling the same amount of power but from a lower capacity battery.

There may or may not be other (unknown) issues.

Sony Ericsson sell a 900mAh as a spare for the Satio look and see, I have even emailed them to confirm what mAh it is and yes it's a 900mAh they sell and not a 1000mAh for the Satio. A 950 mAh is better than a 900mAh

The BST-33 has three variants: 900mAh, 950mAh, and the new: 1000mAh.
Watch out a lot the forgery!

If you buy from Sony Ericsson or a reputable dealer you won't get a fake.

Sony Ericsson has no plans to sell the BST-33 1000mAh on it's own as a spare for the Satio and the whole BST-33 is just a standard.

I bought a BST-33 on ebay for 10$, they told me that is genuine and it seems genuine.
is there a way to be sure of that?

Hi everyone! I finally joined Esato after years of following the forum & have gotten alot of great info thanks to everyone willing to share their knowledge! My P990's battery was on its last legs & I went everywhere to try & get another BST-33 950mAh. Everywhere including my local SE service centre, said that SE stoped support for my P990 & if I'm lucky I might find an aftermarket one. Well I'll tell you all that at one cellphone store here in Kalamata Greece, said they had just sold the last one but would order me one within 3 days. Last week to my surprise not only was it an original SE battery but it was the BST-33 1000mAh with production date 09W33. It was 49 from "Germanos"! Search & you shall find.

Most of the sony ericsson non-smartphones show message "charging alien battery" when a non genuine battery is inserted... not sure about smartphones like yours....

but you can still check the battery by putting it in anotehr non smartphone sony ericsson so you can see if you get the "charging allien baterry" message. That way you will see if your battery is genuine or not.

Wow, thanks, unfortunantly I haven't got any SE that uses BST33 battery in addition to satio.
Is there someone who can confirm if this "charging alien battery" message appear also on satio?
