Sony Ericsson K800i Tip And Tricks

Post any tip or tricks you have found out with the k800i that you think may be of use to people or something you found out recently.

For example, image stabilizer can only be used in certain 'Scenes' (not the best example, but i havent found out any better ones yet)

So go ahead, post away
Thanks

Where can I read about this?

in the manual for the phone.

After playing about with the settings i have found it to work in
Twilight Landscape
Landscape
Beach/Snow

When entering a new contact you don't need to click the add button to enter the name or number, just start typing.

I noticed that if you press the on/off button quickly when the phone is on it will bring up a profiles menu like Nokia's did/do.

this works on the k750 as well

when using the camera, if you don't want to hold down the go button to focus, then press it further to take the pic, just press the joystick button instead - it will focus automatically, then take the shot for you

Hi,

I know this is probably a stupid question... but can someone tell me how to open the Memory Stick Micro slot? Is it a slide across or pull open?

I'm sure I'd work it out sooner or later, but I don't want to break my new toy!!!

Thanks

Posted by masseur
stick your nail in the gap you can see at the bottom end of the cover and simlpy pull to open

Posted by msmmsm
Not really a tip or trick but transferring files via bluetooth is even faster than the K750, approx 50k per second

Posted by donkeyjacket

Thanks Masseur. It opened and didn't break... hurrah!

When using the music player is minimised mode, keep your finger pressed on volume up (zoom out) for about a second to go previous song, volume down (zoom in) for next song. Same as the K750i i know but it did take me months to find it out...lol

You can put the phones mode from 3G & GSM to GSM to extend battery life. This is done by going to SETTINGS --> CONNECTIVITY --> MOBILE NETWORKS --> GSM/3G NETWORKS and selecting GSM ONLY.

Posted by brayjd
1. You can now run more than one application at the same time whereas previously I could only run 1 app on the K750.
Very useful!
2. With the K750 there was a screen resolution limit for Videos. With the K800 I've copied a PSP MP4 video greater and 320 x 240 and it plays fine

Pressing zoom in or out from standby mode will give you the phone status including your own number and battery level.

In case you haven't noticed it already, the copy and paste function is very handy. For example, you can copy a name from an SMS or a number from the missed calls list, then start the web browser, and paste the information into an input field on a web page, for example, an address lookup service, like the Swedish eniro.se or hitta.se.

and smses to????
can you paste in applications?

Volume up & down buttons: press & hold jumps to next/previous track in media player and jumps to next/previous radio channel in radio mode

YES! Everywhere where there is a text input. Some weird java apps that handle their own input, like many games, may not have the copy/paste function though, but anytime when there is a "normal" text entry, you can use the three functions copy all / mark and copy / paste (Oe whatever they are called in english)

Oops, I didn't notice that, sorry, but Nebbs did not mention anything about the radio.
The radio funciton is a bit weird btw, it dues not jump to the next saved station, but to the next available frequency, like forward/backward scan. I would have preferred a jump to the next/prev saved station instead.
It is the same function as in the K700 btw.

In flight mode, you can use ALL phone functions except anything to do with radio (example Bluetooth, GPRS, GSM, 3G are all out) I don't know about the FM radio though, can anyone test FM radio i nflight mode?

This is an improvement over W800 which only supports camera and walkman in flight mode.

When you look at the pics you have by pressing the buttons above the screen, there is no sending menu if you press more, however just click the joystick and there it is...only just noticed it now.

That one does not work on my k800. I get the language selection screen, and the "Loading" splash screen, then nothing more happens for at leat 5 minutes. Some other games I have installed do not start either, and OperaMini always asks me to accept the license agreement every time i start it, and bookmarks are not saved between sessions. Another game did at least display an error message: "Not enough memory for saving data! Please delete another application!" Obviously, the space for memory data is limited, even though I have a huge M2 memory card installed and still lots of free phone memory. I wonder which of the programs and games I have installed it is that occupies the memory, and will it free it if I delete that application? This seems to be a task for invesigation for the FAR guys.

Here is the best tip for tired people. I noticed this my first day exploring K800.

See the little buttons on the side of the speaker (above the screen). They do a lot of stuff in eg camera and so on. BUT the coolest thing....

If you set an alarm (say 06:00). Flip the phone upsidedown when you go to bed (the screen down to the table). When the alarm rings just press the phone with your hand. That will make the small buttons near the speaker press down, and that will SNOOZE your alarm!!! Great little function if you dont wanna go up in the morning. You don't need to take up the phone to look which button is snooze anymore.

Happy SNOOZING =)

OMG...I wonder if they've thought about this when they designed the phone =)

You don't have to look the buttons at all. Just press any key (except the one that turns the alarm off all together) and the phone goes snoozing.. And that's not specific for the K800i...

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me on the k800i if you can put a password lock on the inbox for sms?

Posted by dtsl
Is there a way to pause the video? I can only see a start and stop function. If it can't, is there any java application that can play video, and able to pause?

Posted by senninha
use the video player and you can pause it

thanks, I got it. I was using the File Manager to play video, and it does not pause when I press the stop button.
When use video player, it could pause when the stop button is pressed.

Posted by altemyr
The keyboard is mapped to the icons on the keyboard. For example, pressing 5 opens the messages function, 6 the music player, 7 the file manager, # settings, etc. Works exactly the same way as it does on K700 (and maybe other models as well)

Posted by kwetiawz
you can write note and display it on the main screen. so you wont forget the things that u should do soon.

Posted by bugzbunny
slow motion the video by pressing the joystick down while playing the video

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge... but you can key lock the phone while the music player is on, just by doing it the normal way like on standby mode. It's helpful when you plan to use only the music plauer for a while. This keeps you from having to go all the way to standby mode to keylock, then go back to the player when you want to change playlist/equalizer/fastforward/etc.

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but...
does k800 support qvga video PLAYBACK or just 176x144 like k750??
thx a lot

Posted by senninha
K800 can play videos at 240 x 320

Posted by Sooteee
On K750, W810 the photo DJ was a bit naff, ie if you added a clipart it was always the same size as it was made so you couldn't resize the clip to fit your pic, on the K800 if you ad a clip to your pic and the image is too small / large to look any good press the volume buttons up / down to resize the clip and they will now fit the face of whoever you are trying to make look stupid!
I don't really use this feature but if you do it makes it more user friendly than previous versions.

altemyr wrote about cut and paste from web phone books such as the Swedish http://hitta.se/ but I find it even more convenient to download the vCard offered by the same site. I have to use Opera Mini for browsing, the built in browser does not handle the full web version well, and the vCards are not in the mobile or wap version, but when I click vCard Opera exits and lets the built in browser download the vCard which is then added to the phone book. It only contains one usual phone number, one mobile, address. If there are more phone numbers, websites, e-mail address or fax it will not be in the vCard, but it still saves a lot of typing on the phone. I have written to them and asked them to offer this on their mobile version of the site too.

Don't know if this works on all networks but it does on my T-mobile Flext sim.

Start a message with > !! then type message e.g.

!!Hello you.

Send it and the message gets sent as a flash text message not standard.

i.e. the message appears on the receiving mobile, already opened and they can read it on the screen but cant save it, edit it, move it to inbox, nothing!
Once you hit OK to say you've read it it's gone forever, no proof you ever sent it in the first place!

Have fun if it works for you.

@papi

Probably nothing, it doesn't seem to work on all networks, only T-Mob UK. So you could be out of luck.
