Steve Jobs dies

Steve Jobs has died at the age of 56.

Steve Jobs has been troubled by health related issues. In 2009 he left the company for a six-month leave of absence because of health problem. He underwent a liver transplant in 2009 and the prognosis was said to be "excellent". But in January this year, Jobs once more had been granted a medical leave to focus on his health.

Steve Jobs resigned as the CEO of Apple on August 25th because of health problems. Tim Cook took charge of the company and lead his first public Apple announcement event yesterday when the iPhone 4S was announced.

CEO Tim Cook sent out the following email to all Apple employees earlier today:

Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing
human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve's extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Tim

Rest in peace

I didnt expect this to happen anytime soon, clearly more was going on behind the scenes than we realised.

The tech world has lost a true innovator and visionary, i especialy respect him for how he revolutionised the use of phones.
Will be interesting to see how Apple copes without him now.
He must've known his time was nearly up when he resigned, i agree etaab, a lot must have been going on behind the scenes.

RIP Steve.
Steve will live among us with apple's every single creation...
Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, where he addresses his mortality. An inspiring speech, excerpt from Observer.com.
"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Leading figures in the tech industry, and even President Obama, flocked online to express their admiration for the visionary boss. Here are their kind words for Steve Jobs who died aged 56 on the 5 October 2011.

The rest of the world, tech geeks and the people left running Apple will have learned so much from Steve Jobs. He has big shoes to fill. But i guess he will inspire them to go on and do better. Even though i am not a big iphone fan Steve Jobs changed everything and was a clever man. God gave him a gift of his talent. I wonder if he will be buried with something made by Apple.
julias12 years, 6 months ago
Why does he need to be buried with anything Steve Jobs IS Apple and always will be since he invented the brand and company.

I didn't know that he also founder of Pixar Animation Studios.
Pixar has produced Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.
masseur12 years, 6 months ago
Pixar started life as a part of George Lucas' Lucasfilm (the people that made Star Wars etc).
Steve Jobs bought it from him some years later and gave it the name Pixar.

I never liked apple, but I do respect how what he achieved in making apple the biggest company for electronics, and although I hate apple and their products I admire how they have managed to do so well. Sounds sick to say it, but rivals will be relieved about this news, because they're is a clear link with apples success that can come down to Jobs.
Interestingly the SE facebook has written some nice words about him, "The digital age has lost its leading light, but Steve's innovation and creativity will inspire dreamers and thinkers for generations. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and to all who were inspired by him." So what are they saying here? Admitting that SE (and other brands) were inspired by the iPhone and that they were the 'leading light'?
Bonovox12 years, 6 months ago
Are they actually officially the worlds biggest electronics company?? I know they are huge but did not think they were the biggest. I have no idea.
