We’ve heard that the new iPhone 4G is expected to have:

* OLED Touchscreen
* Dual Core Processor
* Removable Battery
* 5 Megapixel Camera (HD Video Recording and LED Flash is also likely)
* Video Calling
* Double Storage Capacities (64GB and 32GB)

So there itself, the new iPhone should be a big leap forward compared to the present iPhone 3GS. But looks like Apple aren’t stopping there.

lol. IF any of this is true, can you imagine how much it'll be on contract..lol. forget it.

Posted by erazer007
Price will be pretty much the same I guess. Technology develops so it should cost almost the same to make them. Anyway too high price then sales will be affected.

WOW, sounds a lil bit unrealistic,wont it guzzle battery?

Posted by hihihans
I read it at Macrumors. Touch on the backside
They guess it's more something for the iTablet
If that ever appears.

Well if true its about time Apple caught up with better features and higher quality

Posted by erazer007
I agree with Bonovox!

Well actually, after owning an iPod touch for almost a month, I'm beginning to see why people say iPhone is so good.

Well, its only good if you jailbreak

Posted by erazer007
TBH the present iPhone and iPods are only good for their screens and OS.

Posted by goldenface
Why are people referring to it as 4G?
Is it also to have gigabit high speed data download speeds (LTE technology)?

Posted by erazer007
4G since we dont know the name is certain and this is the 4th version ie the 4th Generation of iPhone. Like the iPod video was called the 5G and 5.5G. The iPod Classic is called the 6G.

Posted by goldenface
I see, although the 3G was called so because of its data speed but the 4G is not the official title.

Yea the 3G was called so exactly because of that and iPhone 3G sounded much better than iPhone 2 or so. Anyway since theres no 4G technology on the new geaneration (not that we know of), it should be known by some other name.

Lets say iPhone HD possibly because of the higher resolution camera and screen. Just a thought.

I would eat my hat if any of these rumors come to be true. Apple is not known for its features, its for its UI. Having seen the ipod evolve over the years, its more of a super optimistic wishlist to say the least.

Posted by hihihans
Not HD please! Thats put behind everything these days

Posted by erazer007
@se_dude, maybe not all the features are true but I bet some are true. Even a company like Apple has to introduce new features at times to succeed. At the moment most phones thrash the hell out of the iPhone apart from the OS.

Take the OMNIA HD for example
3.7" AMOLED Touchscreen with 360*640 resolution while the iPhone has a 3.5" TFT Touchscreen with 320*480 resolution
8MP camera with AF,LED Flash tons of other features and HD Ready video recording and not a basic 3 MP Cam

The list goes on and on. So Apple really need to boost their device.

Lol with Apple, who really knows?

With Apple it's ALL about the end user experience, so forget about features for features sake - it's never been about the numbers. On numbers, every iPhone has been "beaten" by the contemporary competition, but in reality we all know it's largely unbeaten in terms of market share and user satisfaction.

Apple could not give two figs whether the next iPhone matches or exceeds the Omnia HD or any other phone you could name - they just want to better the overall experience of the current iPhone, which is something that no other phone on the market can do.

Boinng is right with his comments above.^^
There's very little chance of any of that making it's way into the next iPhone except perhaps for the HD video recording already available in the Nano.

It seems we'll have two variants of this iPhone, a gsm and a cdma. The date is set to this june 22nd.

Multitasking is mentioned as part of the features of this phone. A 960x640 display also. More here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/[....]hone-plus-another-for-verizon/

Ok ok, I want my say, I try and keep away from the iPhone threads for the following reason, but oh well:

I just want to say that the iPhone's design is now just under 3 years old, June 2007. A 3.5" display is nothing compared to the HD2 for example. Yes, what Boinng said about the GUI being easy to use etc is true, but it shouldn't be. Apple should (and can) come up with the ultimate phone, boasting value (£30 a month ish), power (HD2 ish specs) and a good UI. This is a combination which is possible, but Apple just got greedy. They should make even a slight change to the design of the phone everytime they bring a new one out, but no, that costs too much and they might lose money . Apple, losing money, am I going mad??

Another thing is, yes, it was their first attempt at a phone, and if it wasn't for advertising, it would have been a faliare, in fact, in my honest opinion, it is. I know lots of people who have an iPhone, and if you ask them why, you get the most pathetic answers ever:
"It looks good when your on the phone"
"Its cool"
"Its good for sat nav"
All of the above might be true, but its still not a good enough reason to buy a £400 phone. And when you do ask the people if they like it, most say I would get something else at the end of my contract. Some even carry a sh!tty old nokia around with them too.
They miss out the simple stuff, such as copy and paste, and have to bring out an update to get it. Childish
Oh, and the last thing, if you ask them about the app store, well, nobody seems to know what it is, because of jailbreaking. There is not one person I know who has an iPhone (out of over 20) that do have one, who has not jailbroken their phone because "the apps are a rip off". Speaks for itself, if you spend £400 on a phone, why don't you get a £20 iTunes voucher to get you started, the reason, greedyness.

Sort it out Apple, its childish
Rant over
Cheers

Next iPhone info from Gizmodo

Loads of info and pics/video from Gizmodo... Have to say, I really like the look of it!

It looks great, never liked the rounded 3g and 3gs and it's about time I got a new one, still using the 2g since 2007. Looks like it's gonna cost £600 on payg!

Posted by Caspa
Yea, I much prefer this kind of styling, more masculine...

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Very very tempted to get my first iPhone after seeing this. Really like the style, and OS4 looks good.

And I might add, I never doubted Engadget that it was the real iPhone. So many people did.

WWDC10 is on 7th June, so I guess we only have to wait until then to find about the next gen iPhone!

Cool, look forward to it.

If this is what the new white iphone looks like... I'll definitly be replacing my existing white with the new white!

we'll know in 2 weeks...

Posted by skblakee
I guess this is why Apple was so pissed when that guy sold the prototype to Gizmodo, people would not buy anymore of the current types. Result, lost sales.

I seem to be the only person who prefers the old design (3G & 3GS) to the new one.

Why do I have a sneaky feeling that the final 4G design will be slightly different to the ones we've seen

Posted by masseur
iPhone 4G display put under a microscope, 960 x 640 looks like a lock

snip...This quadruples the total number of pixels from the iPhone 3GS -- making rescaling of current apps a straightforward affair -- while also giving Apple the right to claim the highest pixel density yet seen on a phone

Your "sneaky feeling" confirmed as the iPhone 4 (not iPhone 4G) has been announced today by none other than Steve Jobs and I have read the entire article about it on timtechs and guess what? The new iPhone will be the thinnest smartphone in the world! 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS and the front and back sides are made of glass, framed by stainless steel and the stainless steel frame will actually serve as an antenna for the phone. There's a whole lot more and too many to mention but definitely cool.

HMM, touch sensitive casing after all...
