the consensus on this forum seems to be that silver is the way to go. however as it seems that o2 are not willing to compete against vodafone for my custom - i will get the black. i dont really mind this as i do preffer the look of the black one however i am concerned how it will look over time. is the metal similar to that on the p1? those with the black does it seem as though the black layer may rub off over time revealing silver underneath? the metal on my p1 has shed its top layer in the corners but it doesn't look too bad as it is silver on silver. black on silver would be different altogether...

I chose the silver as I really don't like black phones, and having seen the black now, I definitly made the right choice!
The housing is metal with a solid feeling to it that I never got from the P1, but I can't recall if the P1 is metal or all plastic?

the front silver section of the p1 is solid metal - people who have owned the p1 for a substantial amount of time will know what i mean about the top layer wearing off.
basically all i want to know is if/when the black x1 is scratched - will is be silver underneath?

Well as always peoples personal preferences will differ i much prefer Black phones and thought the build quality and finnish on the Black X1 was excellent. I also liked the contrast of the Silver Keyboard and don't think the finnish will deteriorate unless you abuse the X1 as the quality is really very good indeed IMO.

I have always found it good although i am mainly using an Orange Sim in my Bold, Not sure if you should go for VodaFone or not and suggest you read up on a few Forums what some are saying.
As it appears VodaFone may of done some fiddling under hood of the OS on the X1 in as much as you have pre-configured access for Web an other points that can not be changed. Also apparently something about being able to use WiFi as well for certain things. I would suggest going the CPW Sim free route if you can as opposed to Voda Branded.

Have had both for a week. One Black and one Silver. For some reason the build quality of the Black is slightly better (could be a one-off issue). Visually the Silver has a bigger impact but the Black one feels more 'functional'. At least we have a choice!

Got the silver one and I am glad I did, Just goes more with the keyboard the black one I sent back because it looked like two seperate phones, It may not be a problem with others buyers but with me it did

i think id prefer to get a silver one. always regretted gettin a w960 over a p1.

I normally prefer silver phones, and to be honest I would have ordered a silver X1 - had Vodafone offered. Vodafone can only offer black under some contractual agreement done with SE, in the same way O2 can only offer silver.
However I've had my black X1 for just under a week, and it looks class, and as Wesley Snipes would say, "Always bet on black", lol
.
BTW - with default (black) touchflow 3D panel installed, it looks even cooler

I have bad experience with prototype of black X1. It seemed, that metalic battery cover was easy scratched, and there were silver colour under it, which looked quite strange surrounded with black. That's why I am taking Silver X1

Silver seems to look great in pictures and with the phone closed, but black looks a lot better with the contrasting silver keyboard. The finish of the black seems to be more to my liking too.

I got the silver one - had no choice as it was the last one in the shop.
Had already driven 1hr to get it but could have driven into the centre
of London as the CPW in Oxford Street had 22 lol
Im still very happy with it in silver though.

Just what others say, silver if you're afraid of scratches, but its a common choice. The black seems more professional looking and will be chosen by few, but you have to protect it. I bought mine a transparent case and a leather case.

You can applt invisible shield to your X1 if you are afraid of scratching your phone. But be warned though, once you applied the protector, your phone will not have the brushed metal effect as the file completely covers it.
