Flame me if you hate my assumption.

but just a hypothesis....will you buy it if SE come out a phone tht look exactly like X1 (maybe improve the look on those button) and put a UiQ platform in it.

Will you buy it?

Posted by beca
I would consider getting it

Posted by laurenke01
I wouldn't be surprised if there are distinct similarities...SE seems to like to do things in pairs. M600/W950, P1/W950. I wouldn't doubt that the P5i will be the sleeker, blacker version of the X1.

So, yeah, I'd buy it.

just with 5 MP cam

Posted by laurenke01
Yeah, that. And a sliding lens cover if memory serves.

Hmm...UIQ on a >500 mhz processor?? Would definitely have to have a look......

I got a feeling that the P5 will have a sister phone which is in direct competition with iPhone i.e. full finger touch interface. PK says that P5 is small therefore it can't be like the X1. I think that the P5 will be much better in all aspects than the X1 and with UIQ. Just speculation though.

if it have 5MP camera... then i surely wanna get it.

That's true; I forgot about Maria or whatever its name is now. Maybe X1 will be standalone and P5/Maria will be the pair. That seems likely.

@chombos1:

Yeah, 5MP for Paris/P5. That's one of the things that's making me not consider the X1 as a potential purchase. 3.2MP is ok, but why settle for that if you can have something more?

It would be wonderful if P5 hade the same scrren resolution, but with more colors, 256k minimum. An most impotent the same typ of keyboard.

I don't like Wondows Mobile 6, don't know what i wil think of 6.1. BUt thats not the reason i don't want X1, I don't like X1 becuse of the USB contact. There is no handsfrees fore USB.

Posted by laurenke01
Even the first rumors regarding the P5 involved a VGA screen, so I'd say that's a shoe-in, especially given the X1 as precedent. Also, as it will run UIQ, a 262K-color screen is also a given, if not 16 million. Though for battery's sake, I'd prefer 262K.

I did mention the hardware might not be the same on this assumption.

hahaha....but well guys if SE read you wish list...maybe they will think...hmmm not a bad idea

I would take this as a sign of severe case of lack of imagination at SE's design department! And I would keep my P990i until the replacement for the P5 was released!

The rumours at the moment hint of a QWERTY slider. I hope it will be a vertical slider and not a horizontal one that you have to rotate like the X1 just for texting and typing!

Hmm i also assume P5 will be similar to the X1 design wise although i doubt the hardware aspect to be similar with the X1. Qualcomm processor is binary incompatible with Symbian, so SE had to look elsewhere for a proper CPU to incorporate on P5. lets say TI-OMAP 34xx which is the best CPU for a symbian phone. although i would love to see P5 using ATI 229x applications processor and the 2300 for Graphics.

Posted by c96sthl
finally someone flamed me hehe.....

but honestly there's not much form factor that one can explore now.

maybe there are like the dual hinge like Motorola MPX, Nokia N8x? and some Samsung smart phone.

BUT if SE want to do something like those...they better make sure they do it way better than others.

maybe it can be one with dual direction slide....where you have this keypad tht auto rotate....if potrait mode you got all the normal alpha numeric key but when roate to landscape you get the qwerty keypad

Yes the keyboard is very impotent (det heter ju för fan impotent på svenska också). Of course there will be a hands free solution for the X1.

From a VERY reliable source, I've heard, that the P5i does indeed have a sliding keyboard, but a rocker-keyboard, like P1i and M600i, and sliding down vertically instead sliding out horizontally....

How would that work? I mean, I admit to have never used any of the rocker-devices before, but don't those protrude from the device a few millimeters or so? How would it be able to slide effectively?

Still, considering the P1i is being "decommissioned" in Sept. and something must take its place, it would make sense for the P5i to have similar design elements for it to feel like a natural successor.

I've also heard good things about the rocker keypad. I've also heard bad things. I guess it's in what you get used to.

Posted by Peio
I would love that!! I think it's easier to type on P1i's keyboard (bigger buttons), and I prefer a vertical sliding than the horizontal sliding of X1/tytn2 etc...

Posted by badassmam
Keyboard being a rocker may make the phone thick, the edges of the buttons have to stick out otherwise they would not rock. PK has always said that the device is small so I would love to see how SE have done this. The person who did the W999i photoshop was quite accurate and I guess we knew what the P5i looks like months ago.

Posted by badassmam
Sorry, the one I was talking about was this:

I could swear that I have seen a green and white photoshop as well.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was wondering. Frankly, I don't see how a rocker keyboard is possible on a slider without the actual top slider raised a few millimeters above the bottom part to allow for the keys--but then you'd be running into N95 territory with that gap between the two halves, and we all know how sturdy that is.

Posted by Peio
I just checked on my P1, the keyboard is < or = to 1mm, it's not that high, there could be a slider with 1mm above the keyboard part, and 0mm above the rest

Posted by c96sthl
how about...this time not on P5 but just something to widen up you mind

if they go and make a keypad area which is big enough for qwerty layout but same time it is made of E ink so that when you are doing full browsing....your phone ends up like Game boy DS where you got dual screen

the bottom can be browsing RSS text with minimal picture while the color portion still let you do your normal colour full web browsing.

of course that is touch screen like design

Posted by erazer007
Then SE would become Nokia.Actually the design of X1 is good. But I liked what I saw in the photoshops better.

Haha, vilken tabbe. Jag är inte bara dålig på engelska, stavar som en kratta gör jag med, på alla språk.
Aja, du är med på vad jag menar. Important ska det förstås vara!

Get that everyone, I meant important instead of impotent.
Impotent = impotence in Swedish.

"Xperia X1 pics
Today Sony Ericsson updated official pics of XPERIA X1. At this pics removed Windows logo at left button."
http://semcblog.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/xperia-x1-pics/

Perhaps this is the first step to UIQ

Posted by BoyBawang
But i hate the horizontal slide. It's because of the delay of the screen to adjust to the wide view. That means you can't type immediately after sliding out the keyboard. Single handed usage too is important.

Posted by razec
^^ From the videos that shows X1's UI. i the orientation change is very fast. not to mention that X1 is backed with a powerful CPU/GPU and loads of RAM

Posted by max_wedge
If P5 is small as suggested, imho it will be a candybar a bit like xdamini in formfactor. Large touchscreen covering most of the surface, but with some hardware buttons such as dpad. MAYBE a slide for a full keypad. On screen qwerty.

Or perhaps non-slide, no dpad and 3x4 small number pad below the large screen.

It will be completely different hardware to X1. 5MP or more cam (since P series is overdue for a larger cam). fastport and m2 expansion (or no expansion and large internal mem 8GB or more).

hsdpa, wifi-g, vga video and screen. GPS may or may not be on the menu.

Just my humble guestimate - time will tell.

Posted by BoyBawang
what if P5i is just look exactly like x1? with UIQ in it

An interesting question is what's the minimum processor for the P5i to perform just enough performance to level the WM version?
Assuming they will use the same Qualcomm processor, how much Underclock is needed to obtain the above state?

Posted by max_wedge
strongly doubt it.

You won't get a UIQ version of the X1, however SE have said they won't necessarily use WM in the next Xperia device. X1 is the WM handset, Xperia is the panels interface.

Posted by razec
hardwarewise P5 is incompatible with the X1's PCB. the qualcomm CPU just doesn't support symbian platform yet. P5's perfect platform baseline would be TI-OMAP

Finally!

So, If this thread refers P5 as "Paris" then i guess this discussion is bound to be ended soon

Posted by ares
Not really...the existence of Paris does not mean the X1 cousins do not exist...

Posted by xell
But Paris does not just look exactly like X1 with UIQ in it.

Posted by ares
precisely....this thread still makes SOME sense, because Paris is not the x1 with UIQ, but the fact Paris is like that, does not mean there isn´t OTHER device that actually is something like a x1 with UIQ...a cousin

my source was in the other day with a high end UIQ device on its hand...and wasn´t Paris...then he talked about X1 cousins...well...this gives some idea

ares, plenty to come from apart from the P.

Lots of surprises, just a matter of time now.

Posted by DarkKrypt
lets spot the difference:)

credit to sealover for such a nice design
could be my next phone or g900
food for thought all?

Posted by PeterKay
The only thing you've not seen is the back of the phone!

trust me its worth the wait

Posted by DarkKrypt
@PeterKay
*sigh* patience is a virtue - and im believing a stranger(PeterKay lol) that the p5 is the greatest phone for this year lol
the back aye?
let me guess
5mp cam
optical zoom
xenon flash?
lol
beats me

Posted by DarkKrypt

ok ok..by looking at the spy " " shots of the p5
i remembered the samsung g810

also here a comparison in size..with the p1...
front

and side(with n81 (17.9mm) because there isnt one of the g810 yet and the n81 is pretty much the same size..

review here at gsmarena - look at more pics compare the side views..
(this is just to get a comparison size..)

sources: gsmarena, phonearena

Posted by AD
If it had an optical zoom setup, that would go some way to explain why the back half is sooo thick. In which case I could forgive the design faux pas of turning an othewise sleek and ergonomic object into an out of proprtion brick......

Stir-Stir

Posted by DarkKrypt
another thing
fast port..
is this -the circled part- ..the slight strip of black (above the finger below the thumb)the fastport
as its not on the bottom and it might not be on the left side looks like its on the right side lol

edit:
hmm food for thought w910 size 2.6inch screen and between 16mm-18mm thick??
edit 2:
i bet its around 15mm so it beats the p1 and w960 BUT on par with m600/8

I was wondering whether that was the fastport too! I'd say it is because there isn't one on the bottom, and so far (excluding the T250/70/80) SE has either put the fastport on the bottom or the left hand side.

check out the shape and button layout of the t303 ?
looks a little familiar to the p5(move some of the buttons up and to the side lol) imo what you think?
