Hi i am think on moving to O2 uk from t-mobile because i like making video calls and it comes out your minutes. I would like to know people's vies on the network (contract) and if they have a got 3g reception. thanks

first thing I would do us go to the www.o2.co.uk website. Check your post code area and the areas you want to use your phone in for 3g coverage. The 3g coverage is ok but not as good as t mobile 3g coverage but o2 does have a bigger gsm coverage in the uk than t mobile. most places in uk is covered by o2 3g

On o2 you can use your voice mins as video mins. For example if you get 1000 voice mins u can use them as video mins instead. The tariffs on o2 are good but depends what your after. However t mobile does have better web plans for data than o2.

thanks that's very helpful. any more views people!!

Thats now incorrect.

As from January 1st, as stated in the small print in the brochure and on the website, video calls no longer come out of your free minutes.

Yep thats true i had an email from o2 customer service saying the same thing

Posted by danarc
it says on the website that it comes out of ur minutes.

As far as the website is concerned and customer service the video call mins stil comes out of free allowance mins. It was meant to be 50p a min. But not anymore

Posted by Nanu
The date for stopping has been revised a number of times! AFAIK!

Posted by Mr Miyagi
It was meant to be on 01/01/08. But when I Checked the website that day they removed any mention of the 50p min charge and have said it comes out of free allowance.

Posted by Nanu
I'm sure it has been extended before as well!

Posted by Mr Miyagi
yeah it has lol

that's good news lol

It has the biggest customer base in the uk than all the other uk networks. And may be launching some tariffs end of this month that's going to be blowing all the other networks away.

Posted by danarc
how is the customer services and the signal?

Posted by Mr Miyagi
customer service is good, its all UK based, they don't have any staff outside the UK. Signal as I said to you before in the previous post, you need to go onto the o2 website, and put in your postcode in the network coverage section of the website, to find out what your coverage is like. We wont know here, we can tell you what our own coverage is like, but won't know your area, unless you check yourself, or if you give us the post code we can check for you.

edit: go here:

http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/

and follow the instructions then you can check your coverage.

i wouldnt rely to much on the postcode coverage map as my sister checked her postcode and it said good coverage but shes lucky to get one bar signal, i checked where i live and it says 3g coverage which is wrong i dont get 3g at all, but i do get a full gsm signal all the time and i mean full!

I'm hearing rumours that 02 will include free data on all their tarifs soon? Anyone else have any info on that?

Ah, ok, thanks for that, I'll be having a closer look next time I'm at work

And they already do give you inclusive data, just not much.

All tariffs that are £30/month and under give you 100kb, the £35/month and above give you 512KB. The online contracts give you 1MB.

Posted by rhybo
Lets be honest, that amount of free data is a waste of time. I'm talking about 200mb or more a month for free.

Yeah, and while their at it, they'll give you a free flying pony named Bob and a gold weaved carpet made by blind nuns. Every month, for 18 months.

In otherwords, 200MB a month free is financial suicide, I really wish people would give the f-ing networks a break and stop expecting everything their heart desires given to them on a plate for nothing...

Posted by Daedalus85
Just to give you an idea, as I just realised, 200MB per month to each and every of O2's estimated 17m customers in the UK alone is 38910TB (yes, TB) per year.

iv been with o2 for a while now and never really had any problems, their coverage has always really good for me.

Just wondering for those that work at o2 im getting a staff discount 30% on my tariff, just waiting for o2 to change my billing onto some other system so i can get the discount, aparently you ned to do this for upgrades and just wondering if i should wait till next month as iv heard new tariffs are coming out?

any truth in this?

Posted by danarc
what have you heard about the new tarrifs?

Posted by Paul_C
Do tell about these rumored new tariffs! Is it true?? I am holding off upgrading in anticipation

I have been with O2 for the last year and its a massive improvement over Orange.

2g signal for me is excellent, very rare i get any problems where ever i go in to the uk.

3g signal is well extremely poor. I live in a town and get 2g only, I have to travel at least 10 miles to at least pick a 3g signal up. I dont even think 3g is gr8 when you get it in cities etc.

GPRS - Edge, Very good, never had a problems at all.

Video calls are smooth (When i have 3g coverage) and they are removed from your allocation of mins.

MMS has never failed me.

They are the cheapest network aborad for most of there calls and if you are on contract and have a sms allowence, you can use your allowence aborad from mms and sms. (1 sms from aborad will remove 4 from the allowence)

The Wap bundle i have is gr8, I can use it on everything and its never failed.

** Customer care is extremely good, Never had a problem at all, staff are friendly and very helpful. If they are unsure, they will try to find out for you.

I have heard the same about the Tarrifs, very tight lipped tho

Darren - I too moved from Orange to O2 due to me getting sod all Orange signal in my new house, O2 has no such bother! I havnt even bothered upgrading my O2 Sim to 3G because my town has no 3G coverage, I also have to drive 10 miles or so to get 3G, I can live without that tho

Otherwise Im very pleased with O2!!

Posted by p900 lover
Somethig like a o2 to o2 unlimited calls bolt on, not sure how true it is jsut heard it from a mate who works at o2. cant be 100%sure tho

Posted by Seanyb2
I been on O2 for 8 months now and have never had one single problem with them. I am on pre pay and its great value but i never have connection problems no dropped calls no coverage problems great 3G coverage where i live and customer service i always get through straight away with very helpful staff. Would not go with any other network again. Only thing i hate is no call waiting on pre pay.

hey guys how about delivery report on the network. i have heard you dnt receive delivery report. is this true?

Posted by larry 68
I'm another recent convert from Orange to o2 due to the pants coverage I had with Orange, so far o2 has been far superior and its a bonus that my other half is already on o2 pay as you go so I can call for free .

Posted by kjdaco
ATTN Danarc, if you want a delivery report enter the following at the beginning of any text you send *0#

This will give you the report you require.

Also on the new tariffs, any tariff of £35 or more will be able to choose from a list of Bolt ons and select one for free, this should include Data.

Info on the new tariffs in this thread

@kjdaco

I didn't know that. I was on O2 about a year ago and spoke to countless O2 store staff and was told the O2 network doesn't support delivery report messages but you would receive a 'delivery failed' message if the text failed to send. So i guess it was more or less the same thing.
