Sneak preview of next-gen Korean 2 megapixel Smartphone

WindowsForDevices has received exclusive advance information on a new dual-mode Smartphone to be introduced initially in the Korean market this fall.

The device is said to feature dual network CDMA/WiFi support with a built-in 802.11b module, and full-motion video from an integrated 2 megapixel camera. Our source, speaking on condition of anonymity, asked that the name of the manufacturer or of the device not be revealed at this time.

The device will run Windows CE 4.2 on a 500MHz Samsung S3C2440 processor equipped with 256MB of Flash and 64MB of SDRAM. It will feature a 2.5 inch QVGA resolution transflective LCD with 256K colors, along with a 2-color, 128 x 64 "sub LCD" on the back to display status, time and date information.

The display swivels a full 360 degrees to support both phone and PDA functionality. Accordingly, the device will include a standard complement of productivity and entertainment software including Outlook and Media Player 9. The unit will also provide GPS navigation capabilities, with the addition of an external plug-in antenna.

The 2 megapixel camera is said to be capable of 30 frames per second, making it suitable for real-time, full-motion video, and the camera is equipped with an LED flash. Built-in photo editing software will facilitate mobile picture editing.

The unnamed device is expected to launch in Korea in October of this year with subsequent introductions in Hong Kong and Mainland China, and with a GPRS version planned for early 2005.
