Samsung launches the world's first mobile phone featuring an 'Optical Joystick Phone.Users utilize the optical joystick key by placing their finger and moving a cursor to navigate through the menu, similar to a cursor of a mouse on a PC.

Optical sensors will read and react to users finger movement, thus breaking down the traditional four-way menu navigation and providing 360 degrees of freedom.

Unless I'm very much mistaken...(masseur,2003)
...this is effectively an optical mouse upside down, reading the underside of your thumb, which may just be quite intuative.

@antichrist how many "ultra mobile" pcs (and the PSP) use analog joystics or laptop style nipple joysicks for there cursors? loads, they dont have touch screens.

Maybe this technology is more of impotant step than we relaise.

the stylus and the touchscreen is much better than this... invention. this should have been invented BEFORE the touchscreen

That is better than the SE's joystick which brokes anyway.

Shame it's a samsung thing as Samsung phones suck!

If it gets rid of a crappy joystick (well SE anyway) and avoids the need for a stylus and touchscreen then I am all for it.
