Samsung and HTC today disclosed financial numbers from the last quarter in 2011. HTC reports a 25% decrease in profit while Samsung celebrates an all time high profit.

Samsung HTC financial results q4 2011

Both HTC and Samsung today released information about the previous quarter income and earnings. Where HTC is a smartphone manufacture only and rely mostly on number of sold mobile phones, Samsung has a foot in many electronic divisions such as LCD, semiconductor, digital media and telecom and therefore has spread the risk into other areas as well. We expect the following unaudited results to be close to the final results.

The numbers from HTC tell us that things was much better in the past. Net income after tax in Q4 last year was 11,017 million Taiwan dollar (285 million Euro) down from NT$14,797 million (Euro 382 million) in 4Q 2010. This is a profit reduction of 25% quarter-to-quarter.

Samsungs consolidated numbers are more pleasurable reading. The Korean company can look back on a profitable year with high smartphone sale figures caused by the popular Galaxy S II. Samsung's telecom division increased the operating profit by 81 according to Bloomber News. An increase of 36% compared to Q4 2010.

I wonder how Samsung did it
Cause the OS touch whizz is really horrible
Compared with HTC's better Sense system!
Another thing I guess people prob
Go for Samsung cos its a recognised brand
Whereas HTC only deal with Smartphones
As you say above but still my money's on HTC
Samsung I would prob just pay for other
Tech not a phone I was totally dissatisfied
With my tocca ultra II Samsung didn't address the prob
With it luckily Vodafone did!

At least TW is customizable unlike iOS. As for HTC they don't just make smartphone well they started out making computers. It stands for High Tech Computers. As for Samsung they are a much much better company than the crappy Tocco days you can never judge one company on one device.

Android is a customisable platform everyone knows this,
erm this is a topic on behalf of samsung and HTC iOS isn't involved here
I have no Quams with samsung there older devices were top end
and I cannot forget the old D600 2MP Camera it was the best camphone I had owned at the time
I didn't actually have a problem with the ultra II until the battery went bad on it after 12mths
I bought a new battery and it made the phone worse sent to samsung they sent it back without doing a thing to it
luckily Vodafone
sorted me a early upgrade
when it comes to layout and stuff HTC do that for me I find samsungs intervention abit odd round the edges
even system is better then theres

Exactly where is Samsung's intervention a little odd?? It's just the same as any other OS over Android platform with icons & such. What do you mean by Quams
buntoo12 years, 3 months ago
HTC phones are crappy.
Well Done Samsung
Bonovox12 years, 3 months ago
HTC have not really made a decent camera yet. Samsung just seem to go from strength to strength & seem to have the knowledge & power to do anything now. And they are the worlds biggest micro chip manufacturers

@ Miss UK - keep in mind your views on touchwhiz are your own and not everyones opinion. A lot of people like touchwhiz. Personally i like touchwhiz and Sense about the same, but i do lean to touchwhiz more as its a little more bare bones. Sense is all about being pretty, but lacks functionality that you need to dig deeper into the Android OS unless you setup shortcuts. Still great and probably better for the average user though. I just prefer a challenge, which is why im still with Symbian after all.
Well i think Samsung thoroughly deserve to be at the top. They've moved with the times like Nokia used to. The first Galaxy S was a fantastic phone but did not stood out from other Android phones enough, but the SGS2 imo at least makes every other Android phone look mid range. Not strictly true, but the SGS2 is what i reckon the best all rounder.
Something i once found in SE and Nokia. The best all round phones used to be made by SE imo, then Nokia and now Samsung. Which is why my next phone will probably be a Samsung in the form of the SGS3.

Regarding HTC, i owned one of their earliest devices they released in the UK, the O2 XDA2. Great pda, but being a HTC was poor in the same areas from 2004 that HTC are poor in today. Poor camera quality and poor built quality. HTC phones creak, bend and are easily damaged. Their casing to me always feels egg shell thin.
Again, i like them all and would definitely go for a HTC, but sadly for HTC, Samsung exist.

Etaab yes I stay to point out how I feel
When looking at TouchWhizz
I just found it awkward I didn't like
The layout
HTC are better for numerous
Things though they use better material
On most of there phones
SG2 was rather plasticky compared
To my Sensation yes phones have there
Faults but HTC are the brand that I choose
Over Samsung!
Sony Ericsson are better then them too!
etaab12 years, 3 months ago
Clearly they're not judging by SE's financial results.
I find it interesting how you find the Sensations build quality better than the SGS2, despite how the Sensations battery cover doubles as its aerial and made mostly of plastic also.
Miss UK12 years, 3 months ago
Sensations back was 2 toned
The phone also feels solid which I liked
Compared with the Samsung one lol

Ive had my eye on Samsung since the days of the i8510-Innov8, but never thought id get one, since those days they have been on point with hardware, as after the Innov8 they had the powerhouse of Symbian s60v5 phones, the i8910 OmniaHD which converted many Nokia fans to Samsung, there was the original Samsung Galaxy with Android1.5 that didnt realy do well then they brought the Galaxy S which despite being very conservative and understated turned out to be a very powerful device, personaly the GS tought me to keep a very close eye on Samsung, and with the GS2 not only did they get the hardware spot-on, they got the software to. They deserve every bit of success they are getting.
Personaly i dont mind TouchWiz4.0, its not intrusive, its simple and clean unlike HTC SenseUI which is full of fancy animations and bloatware, just look how it ruined the HTC Desire 2.3 update and how it messed up the Sensation's performance due to Sense being such a resource hog.
Hope HTC learnt their lesson this year, they need to improve: Their Antenna structure and placement, Designs, Camera modules, batteries, displays and software optimization, the Sensation truely brought that all out, these were issues previously spread across in a bunch of their phones and due to them rushing Sensation out due to GS2, all these issues popped out in one phone, hope 2012 is a better year for them.

I had a feeling this would turn into who's better than who As for Samsung build quality they have always been known for top notch build quality. The GS2 & new Nexus yes like most phones are made of plastic, but they don't creak or break or fall apart. You cannot judge a phone cos it's made out of plastic it ain't gonna fall apart in your hand is it?? Battery cover might be thin but it snaps on tightly. The Samsung Wave I & II are great examples of solid metal build from them. The Sensation was not made out of a single uni-body it was plastic. TW is better for battery life for sure as Sense is way too layered & a battery hog. Too much fancy eye candy. I may have sold my GS2 but I find I now really prefer the Pure Google experience & would love a Nexus Prime!! Samsung has got where it has by not copying Apple so some say but from their own know how & tech & following the time giving people what they want. Why else would they be selling more than Apple in Europe & Asia??

I must of been one of the lucky ones
With my Sensation then cos I never experienced
None of that Tsepz
I had a couple dead pixels and couple
Dust specs I was prob crazy giving it up for
That but I did like that phone
Battery life wasn't to bad it was better with
A anker battery in my other half has this
In his HTC sensation he again also agrees
With the Sensation and Galaxy Bar
I tested both same day I got either
Sensation was just a lot better
The animated weather application
Is really clever and I disagree how u think
It's a toyish phone
Everyone has there own preference though
People use phones for different ways and yet
Some Disagree or don't agree

How true
Have two HTC's on WP7.5 Mango atm, Trophy and Radar, no dust, no dead pixels and neither battery, nor reception issues.
The Radar is a "real" unibody device with excellent build quality, battery life is above average.
Camera is only average though, but we've known that for years: you don't buy a HTC for it's cam. When you're going to buy a phone for it's camera, there's only one: Nokia N8.

The Sensation is a lemon in my view. The placement of its antennas inside the back plate is well known to cause reception issues from what i have read from users. Software updates cannot fix it.

Never had a Sensation, so can't say anything about that, never had reception problems on any of my HTC's though, and I've had a lot, starting from the first Orange SPV (2002), I-mate, T-Mobile SDA, several other SPV's and Qteks, then they started selling them under their own name. They've come a long way when you compare a phone like the Titan or the Radar to the Orange SPV
Probably every manufacturer once in a while has a model, that doesn't live up to the expectations.

I had only problems when it comes to samsung....i had wave 2,galaxy s and a gio as my second phone....they all used to freeze and restart a lot even during calls so.....samsung is a big no no for me...or maybe i was unlucky.
Bonovox12 years, 3 months ago
Well you have an LG avatar they are even worse. Maybe you were unlucky I had the Samsung Wave 2 it was once of the best ever!! Real quality
etaab12 years, 3 months ago
Dead pixels on HTC phones ? if HTC suffer from dead pixels more than others its because they must use cheaper LCD units. Are HTC phones bad when it comes to dead pixels ? dead pixels i cant stand, they totally ruin any new device for me. Ive had devices with dead pixels before and returned all of them.
Miss UK12 years, 3 months ago
I actually never encountered reception
Probs when I did it was down to the Network
Which I've left now besides.
Btw out of the 2 HTCs I had the Sensation
Was the most entertaining one which I wasn't
That bothered by dead pixels it was only after months
Later it began showing up specs of dust lol
Was a excellent phone if I hadn't of
Got a iPhone 4 then I prob would of still
Kept it but then the iPhone 4S ticked everything
And it's better to have 1 device rather then be plagued
By 2 and have people make dozy harsh remarks
