I've cleaned it and same thing happening. My sons sim is a vodafone my husbands is O2(Nokia 3310)

Sounds like your putting it in the wrong way or something. Usually it would say enter PUK code or Network Code. Putting a different Sim card into the phone shouldn't change anything? Anyone else?

Ok grab the voda sim and see if that works when in the phone to make sure it's the sim we have a problem with and not the connections on the phone

I'm gonna keep posting so hopefully someone with some more technical know how than me will look at this! Googled it and it looks like this happens a lot. didn't get any answers but all fingers point to the connections on the phone. Anyone know whereabouts they are and whether you can access them with out a T6 COME ON PEOPLE!

Do you mean the connections between the phone and the sim?

Cos they're the 3 metal strips, where the gold contact on the sim meets the phone.

It would help, either way, to identify whether the problem is with the sim or the phone, so shall we wait for Amberz to reply?

Ah!

To be honest, and you're not going to like this, it's probably time for a new phone. You can pick up a Nokia 1100 for about £40 on Pay As You Go. It's not even worth getting the phone professionally looked at as the charge will probably exceed it's value. If it's a 3310, it hasn't had a bad run, and your son's probably just tipped it over the edge.

I reckon your son dropped it and it's dislodged something somewhere. I would try banging the bottom of the phone on the table a couple of times. Always worked when the screen went on my mates phones!

No worries - and a belated welcome!

It sounds like it could be a software problem I'm afraid - I had a similar problem with a 3310. I changed the sim card reader, cleaned all the contacts carefully with an alcohol rub, cleaned the PCB with a toothbrush - all no joy. Apparently a software problem can cause this. The phone will need reflashing, which will cost you probably a similar amount to that new Nokia 1100. I've seen those advertised for £29.99 - I forget where, I think it's The Link or one of the network's phone shops.
