Motorola MPx100 Cancelled

Unfortunately, Motorola officials confirmed that this device has officially been cancelled. It seems that market demand is simply much higher for clamshell-style models, especially among the professional users that are the target market for the MPx series.

He said he had no info on the specs

Posted by xo4ox
sorry didn't se it

Here are some of the main specs i managed to find!!
MPx100 will be running Windows Mobile 2003 and looks like a much smaller version of the Sony Ericcson P900 in the "candy bar style". People are buzzing about the MPx100, saying it looks very slick, with GPRS, Bluetooth, Tri-Band, GPS Navigation and route planning!

Oh my Lord that is one beautiful handset!
Come to me oh pretty one, come to me!

Definately good looking.

What prices are we looking at ???

Much as I've liked my last two phones, I have to say the competition is looking pretty darn good. - this Motorola looks excellent.

I really hope will come up with something that makes me want to stay with them by the time it comes to upgrading from my T610.

Remember that that phone runs windows. And smartphones with windows are not the most stabile running mobiles around. It had been better if it had Symbian. But hey, with 1.3mp camera im definitely going to consider motorola.

I hope that Motorola will make flip-type fones again and mini in size as well. Just like what they had in the mid-90's when they introduced the V3688 and V8088+ models.

OH MY GOD !!
It looks the same as the Pictures of the T650 that posted here is esato days a go !!
Does it ?? or the keypad looks different ?

Cheers !

Don't be confused with the Windows OS. There are actually two. The MPx 100 shown above uses the Windos Smartphone 2003 OS (similar to the SPV, Tanager, etc.) it is by no means equivalent to the P900 (not a PDA). On the other hand, the MPx (the one with the double-hinge) uses Windos Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC) Phone Edition OS which is a PDA.

thats a shame.

It is a shame coz i really did like this particular handset due to its size, shape and spec.

It's really shame. It looked good and the specs was amazing.

wouldnt they have wasted a lot of money by cancelling it at such a late stage?

Posted by runab0ut
yeah, what a waste, either way... motorola are coming up with good designs on their products nowadays... this included.

p900-ish, but it's cool!

motorola are coming up with some great phones (se and nokia should be getting worried) Its a shame this phone got cancelled but surely calmshell phones are'nt that high in demand (look at how well the t68, t610, k700, 6600, 6230... etc have been selling) I for one hate calmshell phones, Althogh motorola have so far been the only company to produce some that i would consider!

Looking back I think this was a HUGE and dumb mistake by Motorola back in 2003/4 by cancelling this. Seems Motorola's decision made sense ONLY if they concentrated on their USA market only. IF they looked globally they'd have noticed that HTC was KILLING it in Europe with many of their candybar style Windows Mobile Standard/Smartphones on Vodafone, and other networks back then.

Oddly enough Motorola showed a trial video of their MPx 100 (codenamed MPX 300) with people in office and a brotha using a suit (which looked EXACTLY like my dad back then). That device didn't sell well due to it's over $1300 import pricing and limited availability.

Incidentally back in 2004 CANDYBAR smartphones were king: RIM's Blackberry 7290/Curves/and BOLDs where what business users were using.

They did indeed! yet back then Motorola was making hand over fist JUST from their flip phones.

Good set of specs for the time. Maybe the candybar market was too crowded back then whilst they were onto a surefire hit with the RAZR.

Possibly .. but you have to remember Motorola is a staunch USA company ... RAZR was killing it while Samsung and other flip phones in the USA and Canada just were not getting much success. Over in Europe candy bar smartphones were ALL the rage from Nokia S60 to even HTC's (as an OEM to Vodafone, Orange, etc) Windows Smartphone or PocketPC phones were hot fire (!) when this prototype was proposed.
