I think I am going to print this thread and make a book out of it hehehe great work folks
here is the TH688, it was a dual band GSM/DECT handy, and from what I know remained the unique attempt to combine land lines with radio telephony.
Its "flaw" was that you couldnt roam, for exemple, you are at home, you make a call, it uses the landline (cheaper than mobile in many countries) and then once on the street you would be cut out and have to call again, this time using GSM.

notice the design, its the gh688 but with the /// speaker similar (though uglier) to the SH888.

if anyone used it, comments are most welcome!

i like 1 thing alot about this thread and i hate one thing about this thead.

i very much like all the pics and info togehter

but i hate looking at them, it makes me wish ericsson was stil making phones solo. cause i just love ericsson designs, and there idea's for tones of home products.

oyea usep.be has got tones of /// prototypes, feel free to have a look.

@bart is right in d point that /// made made experiences on different areas with less or more success and its a good point 4 diff opinions. 4 me what counts is 2 c d /// logo on it, coz its d part of their history.

Posted by wapt
@boba, finally you got more pix of the camera. Now I know how it works; I do also like the old PCs; GSM data 9.6k is OK for text email. I run the data connection sometimes too.
@lsursock, Have seen somebody with TH688, but I have never tried using that one.

Hey ever seen this sign?

mmm.... where is it taken from? good message though.

Posted by Cytech
well... Ericsson hasn't left the phone development completely... DT590 was released last year. However, this DECT phone is only for companies.

I use the cordless phone of Ericsson (230) in my room but in the house we have a new Panasonic one (it has polyphonic melodies ()+caller id)... The funny thing is, my mother uses my phone whenever she is going to call someone because she says the sound is clearer - and she is true! I can't hear a thing when I speak with someone on the panasonic; it sounds so bad and so quiet. But the 230 is very clear & loud.

Here's a pic (taken with T610):

The diff. between 230 and 260 are
-No caller-id
-No time&date on the screen
-no digital/analog answer phone

why doesn't ericsson lauche those phones for consumers? ericsson is still know under consumers, they've got good stuff. and siemens and othere brands like topcom are selling home phones, so why don't they?

Posted by BobaFett
@bart thats a good question ;-) maybe 4 d marketing is enough 2 sell such fones as apart of d /// system. I mean, if u use our net, we present u our fones. I do can imagine d they can configure d functions and features 4 every consumer if it is.

Posted by BobaFett
it might sound weird, just recognized that d led on r320 is blinking faster than on d r520.

Posted by stewie
Yes,it also blinks faster then one on the t39,t68m/i...

Posted by Aikonoklast
Yeah and when you have new SMS it blinks even faster CONTINUOUSLY, with T39 et al fast blinking only for a few seconds

Posted by stewie
Just got my hands on one t68m,made some pics of it and one old s868. I've sent those pics to boba,he said he will post them tomorrow. Cheers guys

This is a nice thread to read.

Posted by wapt
There is a nice Finn reading.

I just came across these pics of a HDW-10 headset/beltclip in this thread by hymie and thought it appropriate to repost that in this thread

You can attach any Ericsson 3V Phone (T68, T39, R520, R320, T28, etc..) to this aparillo and clip the pack to your belt.

Inside you've got a 85cm wire handsfree with answer button. If you dont need the handsfree you just press the button at the side and the wire will be vacuumed back automatically (as you know it from your hoover). So no more hassle with any wires and knots and other issues...

Ericsson unveils first GSM mobile camera - CommuniCamtm
Ericsson today unveiled the world's first mobile camera for GSM - the CommuniCamtm - the first of Ericsson's imaging products. It is an innovative, fun and simple way to send instant pictures from a mobile phone to an e-mail address or store them in a virtual photo album. The camera will be commercially launched during second quarter 2001.
Instant imaging is growing in popularity. The first of its kind, the new mobile camera CommuniCam is an innovative, fun and simple way to send instant pictures using a mobile phone, adding a new visual dimension to personal messaging.
To transform a mobile phone into an instant imaging device, users simply snap the camera on to the end of a mobile phone, flip the phone up to the eye and shoot. The CommuniCam can be used with any Ericsson mobile phone equipped with a modem. The image can then be sent as an e-mail, added to the user's personal WebAlbum on the Ericsson Mobile Internet portal stored in the camera, or deleted.
The CommuniCam is controlled through dynamic user-friendly menus in the phone's display and up to 5 images can be stored in the camera for later use. The WebAlbum offers a unique opportunity to create an online community through personal pictures, and provides a gallery from which to create and send personalized electronic postcards.
Wherever they are, CommuniCam users can share the moment instantly with friends or family, whether it is off-pist skiing, partying or just sending an image of a meeting point to a friend's computer before a rendezvous. Aimed primarily at 16-24 year old early-adopters, the key to CommuniCam is fun and spontaneity. CommuniCam supports 352x288-pixel image resolution with a color depth of 24 bits, which is perfectly adapted for non-professional usage. This resolution is optimized for swift transmission thus the average transmission time for a single CommuniCam image is only about one minute.
With a distinctive and instantly likeable curved look, the CommuniCam comes with its own pouch that can be worn around the neck at all times. Weighing just 25g, the CommuniCam can go everywhere a mobile phone goes, making it ideal for spontaneous use.
The CommuniCam combines a camera and an Internet site where CommuniCam users can link to the web/WAP Ericsson Mobile Internet portal and create a personal album of images. Images can be edited on-line and also be downloaded from EMI to a computer or laptop.

Ericsson unveils world's first Cordless Internet Radio

Date: Wednesday, March 21 2001

The Ericsson Cordless Internet Radio H100 is the first cordless device
of its kind and represents a revolutionary step in bringing Internet
audio content wirelessly into the home. Utilizing Bluetoothtm
technology, the Cordless Internet Radio allows access to thousands of
Internet radio stations without the use of a computer. Ericsson and The
MTVi Group have entered into a joint development partnership to bring
unique interactive content and services to the consumer.

Shortcut buttons on the radio let users browse, select stations, and
save favorites. Users can also create their own music archive and access
sound files from the Internet or from a computer. Built-in stereo
speakers offer superb integrated sound quality, while the product can
also be used with headphones or an in-home stereo system.

The Cordless Internet Radio is battery powered and can be placed
anywhere in the home, up to 100 meters from a Bluetooth access point
that has broadband Internet connection. The Internet Radio can also be
connected via an Ethernet cable to a broadband modem.

"Bringing the variety and depth of the Internet into the home through
simple, easy-to-use products is a crucial part of Ericsson's strategy,"
said Lars Lindberg, Vice President and General Manager, Ericsson Home
Communications. "Increasingly, the way we connect to the Internet in the
home will not just be from a computer but from a range of small to
medium sized products."

Sleekly designed, the Internet Radio also features a clock that wakes
the user with an alarm signal, a selected radio station or a specific
sound file.

Multimedia partnership
Ericsson Cordless Internet Radio is a result of a joint cooperation
between Ericsson and The MTVi Group. The companies will explore
strategic partnership opportunities regarding marketing, co-branding,
distribution and sales of the product.

"The Cordless Internet Radio will provide yet another way for listeners
to tune into MTVi's global entertainment content," said Damian Manning,
Vice President, Digital Media, The MTVi Group.

Ericsson's initiative with the MTVi Group is demonstrative of its
ongoing commitment to entertainment technology. Ericsson is dedicated to
combining its world-leading products with the most compelling,
innovative content and applications to create the next generation of
home communications services.

The Cordless Internet Radio will become available toward the end of this
year in the US and shortly after in Europe.

Ericsson is the leading communications supplier, combining innovation in

Ericsson & RMIT 3G Concept Terminals

Students rise to Ericsson’s 3G design challenge
date: January 16, 2002

Ericsson awarded industrial design students from RMIT University for their cutting edge third generation (3G) device designs in a competition conducted by Ericsson Australia.

In February 2001, Ericsson presented a challenge to third-year RMIT students to design and develop a model 3G concept terminal and interface.

Ericsson judged the RMIT 3G concept terminals and interfaces on innovation, communication, knowledge, viability and practicality of design. Three individual awards were given in the category of Best Concept Terminal and one team award was given in the category of Best Concept Interface.

RMIT student Mark Ambrosini was awarded one of the three best concept terminals. Mark’s design was in the shape of a sunglass case, with changeable leather covers. According to Mark, the portable device is aimed at the user who demands mobility and ease of use.

RMIT student Andrew Mok won a concept terminal award with his Bronze colour terminal that has a plug-in camera and headset.

Twenty year-old Nicholas Andrew’s design was also awarded one of the best concept terminals with his two additional credit card size plug-in screens and an interface that has been designed to improve usability for the visually impaired.

The team award went to RMIT students Mark Ambrosini, Andrew Mok, Claire Day, Guy Blashki, Linda Honl and Marija Zika. The team designed a ‘zone’ concept, which allowed for the smart terminal to adjust accordingly to various zones such as a community zone, a loud zone and a quiet zone. The interface also considered the habits of the user with icons that change in size depending on frequency of usage.

Mr. Karl Sundstrom, Managing Director, Ericsson Australia said, “It’s inspiring to see how the students perceive the future of 3G devices through these exciting and original designs. I commend their imagination and commitment to innovation.

“3G is around the corner and we look forward to 2002 as we bring it to market, utilizing Ericsson’s research and development from the past 15 years of work.”

The winning 3G concept terminals will be on display at Ericsson’s office in Melbourne. Ericsson will present the concept terminals to the Sony Ericsson design team headquartered in Sweden.

That thing with locking phone with the star key is not a software bug, that's the second and maybe cooler way of locking phones (i love that Ericsson). As many of you probably know that is implemented in t610. So its not a bug. I used it on my r320. And the nordic ringtone, which one is that?

Digital Image Viewer is portable mobile device for showing, downloading and sending multimedia data. The product is targeted towards home use.

DIGITAL IMAGE VIEWER

DIGITAL MUSIC PLAYER
Ericsson Home Communication AB

The Internet has created great possibilities regarding the distribution of music. This due to the emergence of highly compressed audio file formats such as Mp3 and WMA. However, this accessibility and availability of music has also raised many issues. One of the most important is the loss of physical experiences we face in downloaded music compared to physical media carriers like the CD. Also, due to the evolution of the traditional computer set-up, new ways of interacting with this music media will need to be found.

Ericsson Business Innovation has announced the "blip," a small self-contained device that communicates wirelessly with mobile phones, PDAs, and other kinds of mobile devices that are equipped with Bluetooth short-range wireless technology. Ericsson's plan is for blips to start "popping up everywhere," as a convenient means to deliver a wide variety of services to Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices.

Peter Lundin, director of the blip development project, envisions the gadget adding a whole new dimension to mobile communications. "By gearing communications to particular times and situations, we have created a platform for a range of new services," says Lundin. "Within a few years, 'blipping' while on the move will be as common as home surfing is today."

the Ericsson blip

What's a blip?

blip stands for "Bluetooth Local Infotainment Point." The device is a tiny networked computer system with a built-in Bluetooth two-way radio. That allows it to provide information transfer to and from Bluetooth-enabled wireless devices (phones, PDAs, etc.) that come within its communications range. The blip thus establishes a localized wireless LAN, which users can freely access via their Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices.

Like the transmission/reception "cells" of the cellular phone network, the communication range of each blip is limited. In the case of the blip, though, that range is within a radius of just thirty feet. Fortunately, a future implementation of the Bluetooth standard will increase that distance by a factor of ten within several years.

One thing that distinguishes the blip from alternative wireless communication solutions is its highly constrained range. Ericsson promotes this as an advantage rather than a detriment, however, emphasizing that it enables the blip to deliver location- and situation-specific services. Consequently, says Ericsson, the blip will serve as a welcomed "filter" in the otherwise "cluttered world" of wireless media and information.

Another noteworthy limitation of the first generation blip (the Model C11) is that it can be accessed by only one mobile device at a time. That, too, will change -- with access by up to seven simultaneous devices to be supported by a future model (the C1).

What can the blip do?

Ericsson expects the blip to enable new uses for mobile devices that fall within two categories. The practical applications, which Lundin calls "active blipping," are uses like locating travel information, being guided through a museum, and booking airline tickets. Then there are what Lundin terms "killing-time blipping" -- entertainment-focused activities like downloading music and games while waiting for a plane, bus, or train.

To Lundin, The possibilities seem endless. "Five years from now the blip will be seen as a natural part of the lives of many people," says Lundin. "From the moment they get up in the morning to when they get on the bus to go home in the evening many people will have used a blip on several occasions without even thinking about it."

Here are just a few of the many possibilities . . .
Advertising -- consumers passing by a blip-enabled billboard might download a movie preview, details about a new car, or donate money to a charity.

Traveller's aid -- people waiting for a plane, bus, or train can download information about their destination city, check times and ticket availability for shows, book hotel rooms, or make restaurant reservations. The blip might also provide information about departure delays and offer the opportunity to rebook tickets.

Shopping mall -- through a blip-based information point in a central location or individual shop window, shoppers might locate products, download discount coupons, purchase movie tickets, or make restaurant reservations.
A rapidly growing market

Ericsson expects the market for blip to expand in direct proportion to the growing use of Bluetooth technology in mobile phones and PDAs. How large is that market likely to be?

To answer this, Ericsson points to data from a recent Merrill Lynch study which predicts that 80 percent of all advanced mobile phones and other handheld devices will be Bluetooth-enabled by the end of 2003. Another indication of a coming explosion in Bluetooth connectivity is the fact that more than 2,000 companies have now joined the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

An open platform (with Linux inside)

With an eye toward stimulating widespread growth in the market for both the blip and its underlying Bluetooth technology, Ericsson is encouraging the development of numerous third-party applications. It is this strategy that led Ericsson to make the blip an open platform, and to choose Linux as the device's internal (embedded) operating system.

Third-party developers will therefore have convenient and inexpensive access to the tools they need to support a wide range of unique opportunities and situations. A full set of tools for third-party application development will be offered to developers in the form of the blip Software Development Kit (SDK), and will be supported by a special developers area of Ericsson's blip website.

What's inside the blip?

The blip is actually a tiny computer system, based on a 32-bit reduced instruction set computer (RISC) CPU chip. It runs an embedded form of the Linux operating system developed by embedded Linux specialist Lineo, called uClinux. Here's a summary of the blip's hardware and software specifications . . .
Hardware

CPU: ARM7 TDMI based 32-bit RISC; 22.5 MHz clock rate

Memory: 2 MBytes RAM and 2 MBytes Flash (solid state storage)

Ericsson Bluetooth Host Stack

Open source GNU cross development toolset (binutils, gcc, and gdb/Insight configured for arm-elf)

Windows-based maintenance tool, used for updating data and applications stored in the blip
When can I get blipped?

The blip will be launched by Ericsson Business Innovation internationally before the end of 2001. Although the first blip version (the C11) will be general purpose in nature, later models will provide more specialized capabilities.

In addition to selling the blip itself, Ericsson plans to distribute a number of content solutions for use the device, developed by both Ericsson and selected third-party partners.

Please note: As of March 2002, the Ericsson "Blip C11", as it was initially introduced, is no longer in production and will be replaced later this year by a new device named "Blip Net", according to Per Jakobsson senior investment manager of Ericsson's Business Innovation group. LinuxDevices.com will provide an update to this article when details of Blip Net become available.
