It really is the badger's nadgers, the bee's knees, or even the Crow's toes. I can't wait to get mine next week or so. Getting a real bargain of only £10 per month on a 2 year plan with 8GB of 4G data with zero upfront on my staff plan through work saving me £190 if I was to go and buy the 4G variant at £429.99

that web browsing time is perhaps the highest ever for both tablet and smartphone based on gsmarena's test.

Posted by goldenface
It seems ridiculously light for a tablet. I had no trouble reading ebooks on the Tablet Z and this is what I'll be using it most for.

Is there phone calling on the 4G version though? Can you use one of those Bluetooth Handset Remote thingies?

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ The Z3TC has no call function over network so you'll have to use the likes of Skype, Tango or if you're on o2 a product called TuGo which allows you to use your network plan minutes/text over wifi at no extra cost.

Posted by goldenface
So if I used my currrent nanosim then all calls would go straight to voicemail.

Seems strange that Sony would exclude this feature when they already have the perfect accessory for just that function.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Yep thats about the size of it, luckly I'm with o2 so I can use my mins/text on my tablet as well as my phone. It is strange why they would exclude this feature, maybe they've done some research and found out that the amount of people that use a tablet for calls is very small and decided to give it miss, also I don't think it has an IR blaster which is a function I use a lot on my Tablet Z.

If you check out the key findings on page 10 of GSMarena's review it says they the Z3TC has great connectivity unless you need voice calls. Seems a bit strange wonder what the white paper says.

It seems the "colder" display of the Z3 line is responsible for their great battery life, the Z3 Tablet Compact is no exception. PA posted the battery test results for the Z3 Tablet Compact but then deleted it. They are probably gonna show the review first then the battery test post afterwards. It got the longest battery life for a tablet for all the tablets they had tested, lasting 9 hours and 47 minutes. Nexus 9 came in close with 9 hours and 24 minutes of battery life.

Posted by aussieland1
Played with one yesterday in Curry's and I am so impressed - very thin and light , even lighter than my Tab S . And the screen is still very sharp even though it is only full HD. I am really tempted to get one!

And here's the review by PA:

Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Review

Get's quite a good recommendation and scored pretty high. The display is not a deal breaker for me but the size and weight seems ideal if you read a lot. A great all round performer.

I get mine today, can't wait for it

Posted by XperiaJunkie
So I have my Tablet Compact and first impresions are it's a stunning little bit of kit the screen in very good and all those hating on not having a higher resolution can go and do one as it is just fine. I'm most impressed with the front facing speakers, with the device being so thin I wasn't expecting much from them but they do pack a powerful punch. It also runs as smooth as silk and it's also feather light. I'll try and post some pics later but this is a Xmas present so it will be getting wrapped up asap.

Posted by goldenface
I'd love to get one, possible before Christmas, as a present to myself, all being well.

It sounds great, post some pics please.

Is yours the WiFi version?

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ Its the 4G version, I plan on pre-loading it with content tonight before wrapping it up but yeah I'll try and get some pics and upload them later.

Wow it looks amazing 😍

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ Yeah I'm very impressed if I didn't have the original Tablet Z myself I'd snatch one up asap.

@XperiaJunkie
Very nice, will buy me one too,the problem is that I want the LTE version and I want it white, but at this moment they have it only in black.

I had the opportunity to play with the new tablet today at the store. It is very thin, almost non existent in weight and quite good build quality. The back is nice and hides fingerprints, the screen is bright and has good viewing angles. There was a tab s 8.4 beside it, so I could compare screens and size. The size is almost identical, the screen on the tab s is much brighter and more vibrant and can go much darker on minimum brightness than the Sony, almost to a complete black screen.

Software wise, the sony is better since it is closer to stock android and there is no lag unlike on the samsung, which lags a lot. If only sony used the amoled screen in their tablet, I wouldn't hesitate and buy it right away. I couldn't test the sound on it, since there was no music on it and the wifi was not turned on, fail store.

I wanted to see some windows tablets but the selection was abysmal, so I was not able to check out the lenovo thinkpad 8 or the lenovo thinkpad 10. Thing is, I am wondering if waiting for CES would be wise to see if anything better would debut then.

I've decided to dive in and get one of these fantastic tablets next week. The price has gone down to below £300 for the WiFi version and I'm after the white version.

Z3 Tablet has just landed and it's a great piece of kit. Great build quality!

^ Welcome to the club.

Yeah, just setting it up now. It makes a great e-reader and it was so easy to connect to my other NFC devices. Very impressed.

Is it true that the apps to SD issue will be sorted out with Lollipop? I haven't tried yet but I've read that this is the case.

I hope so, especially for my Z1 as well. The tablet is quite good on battery life, I also bought the SCR28 cover while I was over in the UK a while back. I really enjoy the built in NC especially when watching shows or movies on it.

Posted by goldenface
Yeah, the noise cancellation does make a big difference to the audio quality and I have hardly put the tablet down since I've had it. I actually use it more than my laptop, but for my studies my laptop rules but the tab it makes a handy assistant.

I like being able to take it into the bathroom to have a read in the bath too and it doesn't slip off surfaces as much as my Z3 Compact does, which is a blessing, because I feel like I have to be extra careful with the Z3C.

Anyway, not long now till Lollipop hits for both my devices.

Posted by goldenface
Has anyone in the UK claimed their £30 cash back yet? The link isn't accepting my model number. :-

EDIT: Done! I worked on my laptop but not my tablet.

How do you get to the proper service menu? There is no dialer. (Not the diagnostics menu).

Posted by XperiaJunkie
@goldenface go into your contacts, press the settings option then long press for about 7 seconds at the bottom of the screen, you'll then be presented with the dialer to enter the service code.

You're a genius! Thanks.

Posted by aussieland1
how do you check for OTA software from this tablet? There doesn't see to be "system update"on mine. Has anyone in UK received Lollipop yet? It is meant to be available from today

Posted by goldenface
I've been checking the Update Centre. Nothing yet though.

I have to say it is a bit weird to have the Sony website showing latest available firmware being lollipop but only kitkat is available here in uk

Posted by goldenface
It can't be too long now.

How do you find it ? I am pretty happy with mine. The hi changes are minimal but I like the stock android ingluence

Posted by goldenface
No complaints. I like the new animations and the notification options. Everything about the UI seems a lot more refined.

I'm unable to tether to my Z3 Compact since updating both but not sure if my operator has put a block on this. What about you?

Posted by aussieland1
I can definitely still tether to my tablet.

By the way 5.0.2 is now available. Very good I say considering my Samsung Tab S is still on 4.4.2

Overall I am very impressed with this little tablet

Off topic but my Tab S 8.4 LTE has been on 5.0.2 for weeks ☺

Posted by goldenface
Updated mine a few days ago, didn't notice anything different. I fixed the tethering, it's a lollipop issue.

No worries Rikken

My 8.4 lte in UK is still on 4.4.2

Edit : 5.0.2 available now for the UK LTE as well

Anyway back on topic I agree not many changes were made (small update )

Still is is a great little tablet that has been running really well. I had no problems with tethering on Lollipop

Hundreds of images appeared in my Play Memories app on the 2nd June, that don't belong to me. Very strange! Anyone else had this?

Posted by aussieland1
I don't use play memory app so I can't comment

Posted by aussieland1
5.1.1 is now available available. Good support from Sony so far

Posted by goldenface
Thanks Aussie. How is your Z3TC holding up? Mine looks as good as new still.
